Department of Leadership Studies Rapid development spreading throughout our globe creates the need for a new breed of citizen. (2) The Global Leadership Certificate is a four course, 12 hour program designed to help students understand global issues; develop a commitment to cultural sensitivity and inclusion; possess the knowledge and skills to successfully work in complex global environments; and develop a commitment to social responsibility and leadership for the common good.

The history of Fort Hays State University is one of substantial growth, extraordinary individuals and ambitious goals. The future of what is yet to come looks even more exciting.

In December of 2013, your Fort Hays State University Foundation announced the Power of One scholarship campaign, with a goal of raising $8 million by December 31, 2014. Be the Power of One and donate today by visiting and typing “The Power of One” as your area of designation.

“Money raised with the Power of One scholarship campaign will flow to our students, who are constantly trying to juggle the demands of education and how they pay for it. Every dollar contributed will make a difference—every single dollar! Leading Fort Hays State has been the most challenging and rewarding work of my 47-year career, and I hope you’ll join me in stepping up to the plate to support our Power of One scholarship campaign.” —Dr. Edward H. Hammond FHSU President, 1987 - 2014

Department of Leadership Studies Funding Needs The following priorities are listed in order of importance.

Student Scholarships $25,000 (over the next 5 years) A strong scholarship program plays an important role in the Department of Leadership Studies ability to assist outstanding students. These gifts can be established through annual giving or endowed named funds. The goal is to raise $25,000 over the next 5 years for student scholarships. These monies would enable the Department of Leadership Studies to award 10 (to both virtual and on-campus students) $500 scholarships each year for 5 years.

$5,000 (over the next 5 years) Seed Monies for LDRS 310: (Fieldwork in Leadership Studies Course) LDSR 310: Fieldwork in Leadership Studies provides students the direct experiences of the leadership process by initiating change in the community through a service-learning project. Service-learning is an effective teaching method by which to enhance students’ understanding and commitment to civic issues and develop their capacities to initiate change. Resources for this fund would assist in aiding students with small projects expenses throughout the semester. To learn more about LDSR 310 projects visit $15,000 (per year for 3 years) Faculty Teaching Opportunities As FHSU continues to succeed in providing education, service, and research opportunities in record numbers, the need to enhance the infrastructure of the institution is crucial. FHSU can no longer rely solely on state revenue to meet the increasing demand for operating dollars in this economic environment. Departmental units within the university setting must find creative and collaborative ways to expand programming and services to ensure the educational experience our growing enrollment remains at the highest standards. We are seeking a 9 month, full-time faculty member position that will include teaching responsibilities in the Department of Leadership Studies, and administrative responsibilities within the Center for Civic Leadership. This will be a split and shared position between both university units. $10,000 (every other year for 6 years) Study Abroad Opportunities In an ever-increasing global environment, students need direct experiences and first-hand knowledge of international perspectives to be more effective in their role as global citizen leaders. This resource will provide leadership students the opportunity for short-term or long-term study abroad opportunities.
