Kansas Academy of Mathematics & Science
The Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science (KAMS) is the state’s premier academic high school program for Kansas’ best and brightest high school students. It is a unique residential learning experience that provides exceptional high school juniors and seniors with a potent blend of college-level instruction, research opportunities, and extracurricular activities. KAMS students at Fort Hays State University earn 68 hours of college-credit in courses such as biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, and research projects, while simultaneously completing their high school requirements. The curriculum consists of college coursework taught by degreed professors. The students are exposed to business and industry leaders, which may encourage them to join the Kansas workforce in a scienceor math-related capacity.
The history of Fort Hays State University is one of substantial growth, extraordinary individuals and ambitious goals. The future of what is yet to come looks even more exciting.
In December of 2013, your Fort Hays State University Foundation announced the Power of One scholarship campaign, with a goal of raising $8 million by December 31, 2014. Be the Power of One and donate today by visiting https://secure.fhsu.edu/foundation and typing “The Power of One” as your area of designation.
“Money raised with the Power of One scholarship campaign will flow to our students, who are constantly trying to juggle the demands of education and how they pay for it. Every dollar contributed will make a difference—every single dollar! Leading Fort Hays State has been the most challenging and rewarding work of my 47-year career, and I hope you’ll join me in stepping up to the plate to support our Power of One scholarship campaign.” —Dr. Edward H. Hammond FHSU President, 1987 - 2014

Annual Travel and Activity Fund
$500 - $10,000
There are a wide range of activities that are integral to the entire KAMS experience. Students will have the opportunity to enter science fairs, competitions, and attend other scholastic and extracurricular activities. The students selected for KAMS represent the economic future for Kansas in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. A highly selective admissions process based on ACT scores, academic transcripts, student essays, recommendations, and personal interviews, is used to select KAMS students from across the state. We have had over 60 students complete the academy. Today, there are 65 students in the program. FHSU is currently recruiting its sixth class, which will begin in the fall of 2014. These exceptional students represent urban, suburban, and rural communities from across the state. Fort Hays State University is privileged to host this premier academic opportunity for the state of Kansas. FHSU is a Kansas leader in hightech delivery of instruction, small class size, undergraduate research, and a safe campus community. With your support, the academy will continue to enhance the unique KAMS experience for these talented students who are the intellectual capital and future leaders of our state.
