MAYOR’S YOUTH COUNCIL

COMMUNITY SERVICES

GENERAL INFO

Overview: The Fountain Hills Mayor’s Youth Council is a group of high school students dedicated to learning about how local and state government works as well as serving the community through volunteerism. What do we do? Councilmembers share their perspective on youth issues by serving as liaisons to the Mayor, Town Council, and peers, as well as provide a variety of community service projects, including cleaning their own assigned street through the Adopt-a-Street program. Members also learn about the services provided by other organizations such as Rural Metro Fire Department, Maricopa County Sheriffs’ Office, artists and the Parks and Recreation division. Special dinners and social gatherings provide fun, too! How? Members meet twice monthly and accomplish their mission through volunteerism and civic education and participation as well as an annual field trip to the State Capitol while the Legislature is in session. They also provide leadership on Make a Difference Day, serve as a listening board to the youth in the community and provide the Mayor information from their perspective, promote a sense of civic involvement and community pride, and become positive role models through responsible leadership. Interested in becoming a member? Please contact Heather Ware, MYC Staff Advisor, (480) 816-5108. MYC 2019-2020 starts August 27. Email hware@fh.az.gov for additional information.

This is a deep meditation practice to access the ‘resting state’. The mind, body and intellect are completely relaxed; one appears to be sleeping yet awareness is functioning at a deeper level. It is sometimes referred to as “dynamic sleep” in which you consciously learn to relax. We tend to think that relaxation is simple; recline and close your eyes, right? Unless you release muscular, mental and emotional tension – you are never truly, fully relaxed. Natural healing begins when the mind and body are in harmony. Yoga Nidra creates this harmony. All are welcome, beginner or experienced. Bring your mats and a blanket, as we will be lying on the floor. COURSE DAY DATE

After each session you can practice what you learned all week long. You will have access to Q & A available on-line at “Parenting with Dr. Sally” earlychildhoodnews.net. Space is limited. GOLDEN EAGLE PARK The Golden Eagle Park ballfields have undergone five months of major restoration as a result of unprecedented flooding that occurred on Oct 3, 2018. More than 200 tons of dirt were removed from the three primary ballfields followed by fencing removal and replacement and backstops repairs. All three fields were laser leveled and reengineered to better distribute water and improve drainage. These were all much needed projects in order to enhance our fields and reduce our risk of future flooding. In January, more than 240,000 sqft of overseeded sod was installed on the fields. While exterior improvements continue, the fields are now back in prime condition and ready for use. The Golden Eagle ballfields host users from our smallest T-ball players through our Senior softball leagues. Whether regional tournaments or just a game of catch, our fields are ready for the community to play ball! BEFORE

GENERAL INFO

You Snooze – You Lose! – Nothing kills a good program quicker than everyone waiting until the last minute to register. Whether or not a program takes place is determined by registration, not waiting or assuming how many people may show up. If a program interests you, be sure to register today! To Err is Human – Although Community Services staff work hard to ensure each program is free from errors, there are times when errors in dates, times, rates, or registration information do occur. We will do everything possible to correct such errors and we thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise. Do You Have An Idea For A New Program? Tell Us About It! The Community Services staff is constantly striving to provide programs that “meet the intellectual, cultural, fitness, and leisure needs of all residents.” If there is a recreational program that you would like to see offered, contact Community Services at (480) 816-5100 or parksrec@fh.az.gov.
