_xààxÜ yÜÉÅ exz|ÉÇtÄ W|ÜxvàÉÜ “FGI Board Member Retreat” This August 3rd our FGI San Diego board of directors is getting a little pampering for all the hard work they do during the year. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for this little retreat. Our group hasn’t hosted a board retreat for a few years now and I am honestly thrilled about this time with our board. I’m not only excited because of the pampering, but also because it’s going to offer our planning committees a great chance to get to know one another better. I think our current board is fantastic! This great group of ladies is really starting to gel and is accomplishing great things! Our upcoming event calendar is amazing and our social media gurus are going to be sure you all receive the latest information ASAP! I know I’m not alone when I say that some of my very best friends have come from FGI and it just so happens that those fantastic friends are on the Board alongside me! I love that we get an excuse to get together and plan events for a great organization and a great cause (raising money for student scholarships), but seriously... how fun that we are getting treated to massages and facials as a lovely perk! Interested in joining this FAB group!?? (No, it’s not all ladies all the time) Email us at fgisandiego@yahoo.com! We have the following board positions open for 2014!· Membership (responsible for networking and for attracting more members!)· Treasurer-Elect (financial skills needed here.)· Secretary (anyone know how to take notes?) We look forward to welcoming new board members at our 2013 Holiday Party! Sign up today! Cheers,

_xààxÜ yÜÉÅ Xw|àÉÜ Hello FGI San Diego! Ok, so I’m warning you now...I got really artsy and creative with this month’s issue, specifically with the writing aspect. I blame it all on the uber-fabulous La Jolla Fashion Film Festival. The clothes, the films, the images, the international peeps. It definitely takes you to a higher level! If you’ve never attended, I highly recommend you do next year. And if you’ve attended before...well then you know what I mean! This issue also has bio’s on all of the amazing bloggers attending our first ever Blogging 101 Seminar at the end of August at the gorgeous San Diego History Center. Just doing research on them has me so excited to attend this event. And let’s not forget that FGI San Diego is still looking for a few members to fill board positions for the next year’s term. If you’re interested in getting more involved, go to page 13 to learn more about the openings we have. Have a fashionabulous month!!! Until next time…

It's thirty minutes into the evening. I've arrived, gotten my cocktail and have settled into a corner with a fab view of everything. The place is still open to the public this evening, so you got tourists quietly finishing up their dinners and then you've got them...the fashionable people slowly starting to trickle in. You can spot them a mile away. So chic. So sophisticated. So fashionable. There's the gorgeous blond in a fitted short dress with one voluminous sleeve in the most amazing print. It's as if a tribal motif mated with a bright red fleur-de-lis. The dress is stunning and I must say...I most definitely want it! The tourists to the left of me have a budding fashionista whom I am positive will be at these events in 10-15 years. She's in La Jolla, in a bar and grill, sporting the sparkliest of princess tiaras. Rock it girl! Lets not leave out the men. Crisp, white v-neck T, dark indigo denim and a sharp newsboy cap in black. I know he's here for the fashion and not just because he's looking très chic, but also because he's sporting a Canon. ;-) The glitter and sequins have arrived! Asymmetrical hem, a sophisticated zebra print, if you will, in what looks to be charcoal and black. The eclectic showed as well. Simple, yet gorgeous black pantsuit set off with a killer lime green blouse and topped with the most amazing head of short, shiny blonde curls. Of course, being Southern California, there is plenty of denim on the bottom, but it’s paired with an awesome waxed black jacket and giant geometric earrings. There's the unexpected but in a totally classy way...a simple shift dress but in a bright orange and when she turns around, it’s backless. Very unexpected! And fun! There's the models of course. You can't miss them, they’re a head higher than the rest of us. Gorgeous, girly flouncy brown dress, accessories with a stunning tribal-type scarf juxtaposes the dress just right and the shade of brown glimmers and glows against her bronze skin. The atmosphere is electric. It's alive. All ages (the amazing one sleeve dress that I want is actually worn by a much more mature woman than I thought, you go girl!). Everyone full of smiles. The sounds full of laughter. The wine and cocktails flowing.

More and more people are coming in. The music changes to something a little more upbeat, keeps the vibes going. I see passes around some of their necks to the festivities for the next couple days. Directors are they? Perhaps actresses? Or are they like me and simply fans of anything gorgeous and beautiful. Flash bulbs go off continuously. Capturing the merriment and documenting the stunning and creative attire of the partygoers. My cocktail is done. I must get up from my perch and take some photos of these amazing creatures. ... Ok, I know I said I was getting up to take photos, but the most amazing top just walked in (well a woman wearing the most amazing top just walked in). Another one of these "simple in the front, but AMAZING in the back". It's a simple black, knit top, yet the back is a cut out with white appliquĂŠ to look like a human rib cage. One would think that something like this would be too costumey, too Halloween. But it's simplicity combined with her confidence make it down right sexy and sophisticated. Ok, I really am getting up to take photos now. ;-)

I could make this article short and sweet and oh so simple. It was amazing because‌ (cue trumpeters)... It was Karl! Hello!!! It was a shame more people were not able to attend this part of the festival. An opportunity like this doesn't come around very often. For those not in attendance, the La Jolla Fashion Film Festival screened the directorial works of Karl Lagerfeld. With underwriting done by, of course, Chanel, the films provided not only beautiful imagery but also an insight into the creative powerhouse that is Karl. Many of his films had the juxtaposition of time in terms of "how things used to be" combined with present day ideologies. He seamlessly combines the two concepts of past/present into one scene and makes it believable. One can see where he comes from with that. He's been a successful designer for decades yet still has to be relevant to not only current trends but future as well. It was so intriguing to see that played out in stories. If one pays close attention, one can see him working his fashion influences through his films. The dichotomy of proper socialite yet edgy punk princess plays off in his films as well, even in his films about the beginning of Chanel herself. If anything, Karl's films make you think outside of your own comfort zone, into another dimension, a more fashionable dimension. And then of course, there's always the clothes. :-)
