Less than 48 hours removed from playing at ACC foe Maryland, FGCU takes the court for its fourth straight road game on Sunday against Loyola University Maryland at Reitz Arena. The first-ever meeting between the two teams and FGCU's first game against a member of the MAAC will cap a hectic opening month for the Eagles that featured seven games, including five on the road. The game will the Green and Blue's third in six days, while the Greyhounds haven't played since last Sunday. FGCU gave Maryland all it could handle on Friday before falling by a 73-67 score, its second straight loss to an ACC team. The Eagles' four losses on the road have come by a combined eight points, including a pair of heartbreaking one-point defeats in Dallas against TCU and SMU.

BALTIMORECONNECTIONS

FGCU has a trio of coaches and players with ties back to the Baltimore area. Head coach ANDY ENFIELD played four years at Johns Hopkins University and graduate work at Maryland. Enfield finished his career as the NCAA career free throw percentage leader at 92.5 percent (431-466). He still holds nine career records at Johns Hopkins, including 2,025 points en route to being inducted to the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. Assistant coach KEVIN NORRIS is from Baltimore and had a legendary high school career at Lake Clifton before going to the University Miami where he was a four-year starter at point guard. Freshman DANTE HOLMES is also a Baltimore native and graduated from St. Frances Academy in 2010. As a junior and senior, Holmes played with Loyola freshman R.J. Williams. Holmes led St. Frances to a pair of Baltimore Catholic League titles his last two seasons, scoring over 1,200 points over that span.

AGAINST THE MAAC

Sunday's is FGCU's first-ever meeting against a team from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

NEW-COMER OF THE WEEK

REBOUNDING Bernard Thompson 6.2 Sherwood Brown 5.7 Chase Fieler 5.7

6 5

Led by eighth-year head coach Jim Patsos, Loyola's 3-1 start to the season is its best since the 2007-08 campaign. The Greyhounds, who were picked third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) preseason poll, picked up a trio of wins last week, defeating Coppin State, UMBC and New Hampshire with the last two coming on the road. Off for the last week, Loyola's only blemish this season came in the season opener at ACC foe Wake Forest by a 75-63 count. Behind a strong frontcourt armed with athleticism, the Greyhounds have been able to out-rebound its first four opponents by over 10 boards per game, including 65 on the offensive end. MAAC Preseason All-Conference second team choice Erik Etherly has posted a pair of double-doubles in the young season, highlighted by 27 points and 10 rebounds during coach Patsos' 100th career win at UMBC. Etherly leads the MAAC in rebounding (9.8) and is second on the team in scoring at 16.0 per contest. Standing 6-foot-10, senior Shane Walker is the other half of Loyola's frontcourt tandem, combining with Etherly to provide nearly 30 points and 17 rebounds per game. Walker, also a MAAC Preseason All-Conference second team choice, is averaging 13.5 points and 7.3 rebounds. Sophomore Dylon Cormier provides the scoring punch from the guard position, averaging a team-high 17.3 points on the strength of two 20-point outs. Cormier, Etherly and Walker have scored in double figures all four games.

After averaging 10.5 points, 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals over two games, freshman point guard BRETT COMER was named the Atlantic Sun Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday. Comer's week was highlighted by his first career double of 15 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and four steals during a win over Prairie View A&M.

RECORD (A-SUN)

GAME7 AT LOYOLA (NOV. 27)

LAST GAME: FGCU Falls Short at ACC Foe Maryland, 73-67

(Box Score on Page 28) COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Three players in double figures and a late push over the final 10 minutes helped FGCU rally from a double-digit deficit in the second half before falling short at Maryland, 73-67, on Friday night at the Comcast Center. • Trailing by 16, 52-36, with 13:03 left in the game, the Eagles fought back behind freshman point guard BRETT COMER, who scored 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half. Comer’s layup with 48 seconds left cut it to a two-possession contest, at 70-66. • After a pair of missed free throws from Terrell Stoglin gave the ball back to the Eagles, but a turnover in transition cost the visitors a chance to draw as close as one point. Despite being a 92 percent (23-25) shooter through the first four games, Stoglin, an ACC All-Freshman selection a year ago, made 2-of-4 from the line in the final 26 seconds, but FGCU came away with just one point over its final five possessions. • Comer finished 7-of-12 from the field while adding six rebounds and three assists over a team-high 32 minutes. Fellow freshman BERNARD THOMPSON came off the bench for 12 points, marking the fifth time in six games the bench has supplied a double figure scorer. Thompson added seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

NEW COACH NEW HOPES

On March 31st, the FGCU men’s basketball program got a new look for its 10th season in program history when ANDY ENFIELD was named head coach. Enfield, who spent the previous five years as an assistant with Florida State, is the second head coach in FGCU’s brief history. While at FSU, Enfield was a part of two teams that advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and back-toback clubs that lead the NCAA in defensive field goal percentage.

WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU

Coming off his first career double-double at Miami, junior SHERWOOD BROWN has carried over a strong finish to his sophomore campaign into this season. After team-highs of 19 points and 11 rebounds against the Hurricanes on Tuesday, Brown has reached double figures both games this week, ranking second on the squad in both scoring (11.0) and rebounding (5.7) - figures that rank 13th and10th in the A-Sun, respectively. Sparked by a careerhigh 26 points in last year's season finale at USC Upstate, Brown finished last February (10 games) with a 11.2 scoring average - more than four points above his season mark. Brown reached double figures in each of the final four games, averaging 18.3 points while leading the team in scoring three times.

BALANCED ATTACK

Three different FGCU players are averaging double figure points on the young season with another just under the double-digit mark. The Eagles are one of four teams to have three players in the top 20 in scoring in the A-Sun. Freshman BRETT COMER'S 12.0 points per game leads the way, while junior SHERWOOD BROWN and freshman BERNARD THOMPSON are right behind at 11.7 and 11.0, respectively. Six different players have scored double-digit points in a game, while four different players have led the team in scoring, including three off the bench. Looking further, six players are playing 20 or more minutes per game, while nine players are above 15 per contest.

INSTANT IMPACT

FGCU's freshmen class has wasted little time making an impact, accounting for 48 percent of the scoring, 35 percent of the rebounds and 69 percent of the assists. Point guard BRETT COMER and combo-guard BERNARD THOMPSON rank first and third on the team in scoring at 12.0 and 11.0 points, respectively. Comer is also the team's top assist man with 4.8 helpers per contest, a mark that ranks third in the A-Sun. Thompson's 11.0 points are joined by a team-high 6.2 rebounds per game. Thompson has scored in double figures a team-high five times, while Comer has done so in four games and both in the same game on four occasions. The duo was joined in double figures by classmate FILIP CVJETICANIN in the win over Prairie View A&M. DANTE HOLMES is the final member of the freshman quartet that is having a big impact, averaging 5.6 points in 17 minutes per game.

5

WE'LL PICK YOU UP

Through six games, FGCU owns a 164-116 advantage in bench points, good for a +8.0 margin per game. The bench has supplied a double figure scorer in five games, including the team's leading scorer on three occasions. At SMU, sophomore CHRISTOPHE VARIDEL poured in 20 points on 6-of-7 from three-point land, while junior SHERWOOD BROWN'S 19 points against Ave Maria give the bench the top two scoring efforts by an Eagle this season. Freshman Bernard Thompson has come off the bench twice (TCU, Maryland), averaging 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals.

SECOND HALF SURGE

Led by the play of freshman point guard BRETT COMER, FGCU has overcome a sluggish first half in four of its games by averaging 37.0 points over the final 20 minutes while limiting its opponents to 31.3. Comer has been the catalyst to the second half turnaround, averaging 9.3 points over the span while passing out 17 assists that have led to 42 more points. As a team, FGCU is shooting a scalding 50 percent (80-159) in the second half, including 21-of-55 from three-point land. At Miami, FGCU tied a program D-1 record for second half points given up by limiting the Hurricanes to 18 points on 4-of-24 from the field.

SHARP SHOOTING

Junior SHERWOOD BROWN is 12th in the A-Sun in field goal percentage (.509), while sophomore CHRISTOPHE VARIDEL is among the leaders in three-point percentage (.480/10th) and threes per game (2.0/7th). Brown and Varidel account for 20 of FGCU's 37 three-point makes on the year. Varidel, who ranked fifth among all freshmen with 78 threes in 2010-11, is 12-of-25 on the year.

FAST START

Ranking among the leaders in the Atlantic Sun Conference in five statistical categories, freshman BRETT COMER is off to a fast start early in the year. Highlighted by a 10-assist effort against Prairie View, Comer is third in the A-Sun in assists per game (4.8). He has reached double figures in fourt games, resulting in a teamhigh 12.0 points per game, good for 11th in the A-Sun.

BOARD WORK

Despite lacking a ton of size, FGCU has out-rebounded all six opponents this season, owning a +5.5 margin on the boards to rank third in the A-Sun. The Eagles are also averaging double-digit offensive caroms (11.7) that have helped them score 20+ points in the paint each contest. Last game at Maryland, FGCU pulled down a season-best 17 offensive rebounds that led to another seasonhigh in points in the paint (42.). FGCU's top two rebounders come from the backcourt, as BERNARD THOMPSON'S 6.2 rebounds rank in the top 10 in the A-Sun. SHERWOOD BROWN'S 11 rebounds at Miami were a team season-high, as he and CHASE FIELER are second on the squad at a 5.7 per game clip.

GAME7 AT LOYOLA (NOV. 27)

SEEING DOUBLE

Freshman BRETT COMER has taken the reigns of the point guard position in his first season as an Eagle and against Prairie View A&M recorded the team's first double-double of the season. The Winter Park, Fla. product, who was the point guard alongside current Duke freshman Austin Rivers, went for 15 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and three steals in the win over the Panthers. Earlier in the week at Miami, SHERWOOD BROWN scored 15 points in the second half en route to finishing with his first career double-double of 19 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.

SWEET NOVEMBER

FGCU will play seven games over 17-day span to open the season. Out of those seven games, five will come on the road, including two trips to Texas. The last four games of the month will come away from home in Texas, Miami and Maryland.

D-1 TESTED & APPROVED

On August 12, 2011, all 14 of FGCU’s Division I sports became postseason eligible when the NCAA Division I Board of Directors approved the recommendation from the NCAA Division I Administration Cabinet to elect FGCU to Division I active membership. FGCU began its transition into Division I in 200708. The Eagles are now eligible for Atlantic Sun postseason play and NCAA Tournament.

BOMBS AWAY

Sophomore CHRISTOPHE VARIDEL ranked second in the A-Sun in three-pointers per game (2.6) in his rookie campaign, making total of 78 on the season. His 78 threes were the fifthmost by a freshman in the entire country and the fourth-best total in program history. Varidel made three or more trifectas in a game 16 times and accounted for 45 percent of the team’s long range makes on the year. The Versoix, Switzerland product finished second on the team in scoring (11.2) and was named to the A-Sun All-Freshmen squad.

THE MAN IN THE MIDDLE

Despite having just four players over 6-foot-8, FGCU has one of the biggest players in the A-Sun Conference manning its frontline in 6-foot-10, 254-lb. forward KEVIN CANTINOL. The senior came on strong over the final 10 games of last season after becoming eligible mid-year after transferring from SEC foe Mississippi. Cantinol averaged 7.9 and 6.3 rebounds over the last 10 games despite making just four starts. Over the final 10 games, Cantinol led the team in rebounding five times and collected 27 offensive caroms.

A-SUN RANKED 17TH

The 10-member Atlantic Sun Conference was lauded by CBS College Sports as the 17th-best Division I men's basketball conference, according to the media outlet's preseason rankings. Last year, Belmont represented the A-Sun in the NCAA Tournament, while Jacksonville and ETSU played in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

FGCU SIGNS DAJUAN GRAF IN EARLY SIGNING PERIOD (NOV. 10) Just two nights before his first official game as FGCU men’s basketball coach, ANDY ENFIELD announced that DAJUAN GRAF (Charlotte, N.C./Phillip O. Berry Academy) has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) on the first day of the early signing period and will join the Eagles in 2012-13. Graf, a 6-foot point guard, is a rising senior at Phillip O. Berry Academy where he has led the Cardinals to a 51-11 record and a pair of North Carolina Section 2A Championships over the last two seasons. “We’re excited to add a player of DaJuan’s caliber to our program,” said Enfield. “His quickness, ball-handling ability and decision-making skills are exactly what we are looking for in a point guard. We expect him to fit in well with our other talented players and look forward to him joining our FGCU family.” As a junior last season, Graf averaged a team-highs of 15.4 points, 3.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game en route to leading Phillip O. Berry Academy to a 27-3 record and its second straight N.C. Section 2A Championship. Graf was named the Rocky River Conference Player of the Year and an All-Western Region squad selection. His 15.4 points per game were fueled by 22 double figure outings and seven 20-point performances, including a career-high 36-point outing in the season opener against Garinger. A multi-faceted guard, Graf also average 4.5 rebounds, had three double-doubles, seven performances of six or more boards and reached the foul line 10 times in a game five times. Graf’s starting point guard duties began his sophomore season when he led the Cardinals to a 24-8 mark and the first of his two Section 2A Championships. He burst onto the scene by averaging 13.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.1 steals per contest. Graf reached double figures in 25 of 32 games, scoring 20 or more points three times to go along with a trio of double-doubles.

HEADCOACHANDYENFIELD BIO

Andy Enfield was appointed the second-ever head coach in Florida Gulf Coast men’s basketball history on March 31, 2011. Enfield will lead the program into its 10th season of existence and first as Division I postseason eligible in 2011-12. “It is with great pleasure that we welcome Andy, Amanda, and the rest of the Enfield family into FGCU, Southwest Florida, and our Eagles’ athletics family,” said Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh. “A quality individual, Andy is a proven winner and brings to FGCU a tremendous wealth of experience and coaching success, on the both the collegiate and professional ranks. “In particular, he possesses a background of demonstrated commitment to excellence both on the court and in the classroom. In turn, we look forward to him providing energized daily leadership to our student-athletes, quickly getting engaged with our growing fan base and rapidly putting us in pursuit of the upper echelon of the Atlantic Sun Conference and beyond.” Enfield spent the previous five years as an assistant coach at Florida State, helping FSU to three consecutive NCAA Tournaments (2009-11), including the Sweet 16 in 2011. Enfield joined head coach Leonard Hamilton’s staff at Florida State in 2006. The Seminoles appearances in the last three NCAA Tournaments were the program’s first since 1998, as they accumulated 31 wins in ACC action over that span – second-most behind Duke – and advanced to the program’s first-ever ACC championship game in 2009. With three straight 20-win seasons to its credit, FSU advanced to the 2011 Sweet 16 in the Southwest Region by defeating No. 10 Texas A&M and No. 2 Notre Dame in Chicago. 14

Recruiting and player development were chief among Enfield’s responsibilities at FSU where its 2010-11 roster boasted 11 top 100 recruits and a pair of McDonald’s All-Americans. In 2009, Basketball Times named Enfield the nation’s “Most Visible Assistant Coach” for the summer recruiting period, while ESPN The Magazine donned him one of “Five Super Assistant Coaches in College Basketball” during the 2008-09 campaign. Enfield’s prowess on the recruiting trails helped the Seminoles produce three straight top 25 classes, highlighted by the 2008 group that ranked in the top 10. A former NBA assistant with the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks, Enfield’s influence helped FSU develop five NBA draft picks over five seasons. Al Thornton (2007) and Toney Douglas (2009) were both selected in the first round and earned Associated Press All-American status while leading the ACC in scoring. In 2011, Chris Singleton became the Noles’ third first round pick in the last five years when the Washington Wizards took him with the 18th overall pick. A key ingredient to FSU’s success was its ability to play defense, as the Seminoles became the first team since the 1990-92 Georgetown clubs to lead the nation in defensive field goal percentage two straight seasons from 2009-11. In 2010-11, the Seminoles limited their opponents to 36.3 percent shooting from the field to lead the nation for the second year in a row. With Singleton and Douglas, FSU had the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in two of Enfield’s last three seasons, while 2010 NBA second round pick Solomon Alabi was runner-up.

GAME7 AT LOYOLA (NOV. 27)

Prior to his five years in Tallahassee, Enfield began his coaching career in the NBA from 1994-1996 where he served as the shooting coach for the Milwaukee Bucks and head coach Mike Dunleavy. While in Milwaukee, Enfield worked with four-time NBA All-Star Vin Baker and No. 1 overall pick Glenn Robinson. Enfield continued his NBA career as an assistant coach with the Boston Celtics under head coach Rick Pitino from 1998-2000. Enfield worked closely with then-rookie Paul Pierce who went on to win the 2008 NBA Finals MVP award. With the Celtics, Enfield increased his duties on the bench to developing game plans and scouting reports, assisting in practice strategies and offensive player development. Known for his shooting expertise, Enfield helped the Celtics shoot 74.5 percent from the free throw line in 19992000, a 5.3 percent increase from the previous year for the biggest improvement in the league. After his stint with the Boston Celtics, Enfield became a player development consultant for several NBA teams, while running his own company called “All Net Basketball” which focused on improving shooting technique and offensive skills. Over his time as a consultant and shooting instructor, Enfield coached more than 100 NBA players. During his collegiate playing career at Johns Hopkins University, Enfield set the all-time NCAA career free-throw percentage record with a mark of 92.5 percent (431-466). Enfield still holds nine career records at Johns Hopkins and was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. He led the team in scoring in all four seasons en route to a program record 2,025 career points thanks to the top two single-season point totals in school history with 606 points in 1990 and 610 points in 1991.

As good as he was on the court, he was just as sharp in the classroom, as the economics major earned GTE Academic All-America first team honors as a senior and second team honors as a junior. He was the first basketball player at Johns Hopkins to earn an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and was named the NABC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 1991. Enfield and his wife Amanda, have two daughters; Aila and Lily, and son, Marcum. COACHING EXPERIENCE • Head Coach, FGCU, 2011-Present • Assistant Coach, Florida State, 2006-11 • Assistant Coach, Boston Celtics, 1998-2000 • Assistant Coach, Milwaukee Bucks, 1994-96

GAME 2

Nov. 11, 2011 at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum

Nov. 14, 2011 at Alico Arena

FORT WORTH, Texas - Despite trailing by as many as 16 early in the second half, FGCU fought all the way back and had several chances to take the lead in the final seconds, but came up short in a 73-72 seasonopening loss at TCU on Friday night at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Freshman point BRETT COMER quickly pushed the ball up the court and executed a dribble-handoff to Brown, who knocked down a three with 4.8 seconds on the clock to make it a one-point game, at 73-72. FGCU quickly fouled Thorn on the ensuing inbound pass after a timeout to put the All-Mountain West point guard at the foul line. Thorns’ front end of the 1-and-1 missed to the right and the rebound was tipped into the corner where FGCU failed to get off a desperation shot. Three different players reached double figures for the Eagles, led by freshman BERNARD THOMPSON’S (pictured) 15 points off the bench. Thompson poured in 11 of his 15 in the first half, while adding six rebounds and four assists. The catalyst of the second half comeback, Comer had a hand in 24 of FGCU’s 41 points in the final frame. Comer finished the game with 12 points and five assists with all but two of the points coming over the final 20 minutes. Sophomore CHASE FIELER turned in a clean stat line with 12 points on 4-of-4 from the field, including 3-for-3 from long range, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Sparked by 15 second half points from freshman BRETT COMER (pictured) and SHERWOOD BROWN’S 19 points off the bench, FGCU picked up its first win under head coach Andy Enfield against Ave Maria, 79-64, in front of 1,547 fans in the home opener at Alico Arena Monday night. FGCU created its first real separation of the game midway through the final frame, going on a 17-2 run over a seven-minute period that took what was a six-point lead and turned it into a the largest edge of the game (21), 58-37, for the Eagles with 9:02 play. Brown scored 10 of his 19 points in the first half, sinking 3-of-6 from three-point land, while also adding six rebounds and three steals. It was Comer’s turn in the second half, as the Winter Park, Fla. product reached double figures over the final 20 minutes alone for the second straight game. Comer finished 7-of-10 from the field for 17 points to go along with a game-high eight rebounds and four assists. After shooting just 31 percent in the first half, the Eagles shot a sweltering 69 percent (18-26) from the floor in the second frame en route to 48 points. FGCU’s finished above 50 percent for the second consecutive contest with a 52 percent clip (31-60). FGCU took advantage of its superior size to own a 44-27 advantage on the backboard and a 34-16 edge in points in the paint.

FGCU - 68 Prairie View A&M - 59

SMU - 65 FGCU - 64

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Led by freshman BRETT COMER’S first career doubledouble and a strong second half defensive effort, FGCU picked up its second straight win with a 68-59 victory against Prairie View A&M on Thursday night at Alico Arena. For the third straight game, Comer reached double figure points in the second half alone, sparking a 12-2 run that turned a 39-33 Panther lead into a 45-41 FGCU advantage that it would never relinquish. Comer accounted for four points during the run and assisted on both three-pointers by classmate FILIP CVJETICANIN and sophomore CHRISTOPHE VARIDEL. The Eagles held a five-point lead, 59-54, with just under three minutes to play, before putting the game away with eight straight points that gave the home team its largest lead of the game (13), 67-54, and its second home win in four days. FGCU outscored Prairie View A&M 38-25 and limited the Panthers to just 8-of-36 from the field over the final 20 minutes. A trio of freshmen led FGCU in scoring with Comer’s doubledouble coming on 15 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and three steals over 35 minutes of action. Comer did a majority of his damage in the second half comeback, scoring 11 points and while dishing out six assists. Freshman BERNARD THOMPSON (pictured) contributed 13 points, while Cvjeticanin was perfect from the field, going 3-of-3, including two from long range, to add 10 points off the bench.

DALLAS, Texas - Sophomore CHRISTOPHE VARIDEL (pictured) poured in a game-high 20 points and FGCU made 10 three-pointers as a team, but it wasn’t enough, as its two game-winning attempts in the final seconds came up short in a heartbreaking 65-54 loss at Conference USA foe SMU on Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum. The first 37 minutes of the game featured just two lead changes, but there were three over the final three minutes with the last coming on a breakaway layup by SMU’s Ryan Manuel off an FGCU turnover with 21 seconds left that gave the Mustangs a 65-54 lead. After calling a timeout, FGCU’s initial play was stopped, as Thompson had to take a fade away jumper from the top of the key that missed short. The miss caromed right to Varidel outside the right block where his put-back was to strong off the glass and glanced off the front of the rim as time expired. The one-point loss is the second of the season for the Eagles, who dropped a 73-72 decision in the season-opener at nearby TCU just over a week ago. Varidel accounted for six of FGCU’s 10 three-pointers, knocking down 6-of-7 from long range for 20 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Freshman BERNARD THOMPSON was the only other Eagle in double figures with 11 points, a game-high eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Varidel and Thompson combined for 23 of FGCU’s 35 points in the first half.

MIAMI, Fla. - Despite holding Miami to 18 points and a 17 percent shooting clip (4-24) in the second half, FGCU couldn’t overcome an 18-point halftime deficit in a hard-fought 60-50 loss to the Hurricanes on Tuesday night at the BankUnited Center. The 18 points given up by the Eagles in the second half equals the best defensive effort over the final 20 minutes by the Green and Blue since joining Division I in 2007-08. Behind 15 points in the second half by junior SHERWOOD BROWN (pictured) and the stout defensive effort, FGCU out-scored Miami 26-18 in the final frame, but couldn’t avoid falling to 2-3 on the young season. The Eagles’ three losses have come by a combined 12 points, while Miami picked up its fourth straight win to open the season, which have all come home. After trailing 42-24 at the end of 20 minutes, FGCU quickly cut the Miami lead in half, opening the second frame on a 9-0 run that was capped by a three-pointer from Brown that forced Miami coach Jim Larranaga to call a timeout at the 15:49 mark. Brown’s three cut the Miami lead to 42-33, as the Hurricanes went the first 6:55 without a point by shooting 0-for-10 from the field. Brown added a jumper in the final minute to finish with FGCU’s final 10 points, but the Eagles couldn’t make up any ground as AllACC guard Malcolm Grant went 5-of-6 from the line over the final 80 seconds to seal the win and halt the FGCU comeback.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Three players in double figures and a late push over the final 10 minutes helped FGCU rally from a double-digit deficit in the second half before falling short at Maryland, 73-67, on Friday night at the Comcast Center. Trailing by 16, 52-36, with 13:03 left, the Eagles fought back behind freshman point guard BRETT COMER, who scored 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half. Comer’s layup with 48 seconds left cut it to a two-possession contest, at 70-66. After a pair of missed free throws from Terrell Stoglin gave the ball back to the Eagles, but a turnover in transition cost the visitors a chance to draw as close as one point. Despite being a 92 percent (23-25) shooter through the first four games, Stoglin, an ACC All-Freshman selection a year ago, made 2-of-4 from the line in the final 26 seconds, but FGCU came away with just one point over its final five possessions. Comer finished 7-of-12 from the field while adding six rebounds and three assists over a team-high 32 minutes. Fellow freshman BERNARD THOMPSON (pictured) came off the bench for 12 points, marking the fifth time in six games the bench has supplied a double figure scorer. Thompson added seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. For the sixth straight game, FGCU won the battle on the boards, finishing with a 42-37 edge, including 17 offensive caroms.
