The University offers an associate degree in legal assisting and a diploma program for paralegals. Our classes are taught by practicing attorneys who relate real life examples to the rules of law. Students take field tips to the court of appeals law library to gain an understanding of the legal research process. Students also attend criminal court to participate in legal hearings. In an effort to reduce costs and increase the availability of legal services many employers are hiring legal assistants and paralegals to perform tasks which were formerly done by lawyers. The importance of a legal assistant and paralegal is reflected in their annual earnings as well. According to the US Bureau of Labour and Statistics the median annual salary for legal assistants and paralegals is $45,460.
