Here's a look at $45M-plus I-Drive projects in the pipeline through 2017

Part of Orange County's plans for International Drive include building a new pedestrian‌ International Drive has a lot of projects slated to begin over the next two years that will help to alleviate traffic along the corridor. The projects, estimated at more than $45 million as some have yet to be priced out, include constructing new bridges, road widening’s, building new transit lanes and more. In a nutshell, these projects will help transport the millions of annual tourists the corridor welcomes each year. According to Orange County, the projects in the pipeline include: $9.6 million International Drive Pedestrian Bridge: This covered bridge will connect to the convention center, span over I-Drive and touch down via escalator and elevator at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Construction on the bridge started on July 13 and is scheduled for completion in April 2017. $21.6 million International Drive widening: This four- to six-lane road widening project from South Westwood Boulevard to North Westwood Boulevard. Construction is expected to start in August 2015. $15 million John Young Parkway/Sand Lake Road interchange: This is a project in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation with construction set to begin in April 2016. Destination Parkway: The final segment of this project, which extends from Lake Cay to Tradeshow Boulevard, will begin construction in early 2016. International Drive transit lanes: Final design is underway to extend transit lanes from the Superstop on Destination Parkway up International Drive, across Via Mercado to Universal Boulevard and up to Sand Lake Road. Construction is expected to start in 2017. Sea Harbor Drive sidewalk project: A project to improve the sidewalk from Academic Drive to International Drive. The project is currently in the design phase. Any improvements to the International Drive corridor also help the Orange County Convention Center business that brings in more than $2 billion in economic impact. Source: Orlando Business Journal
