FISH HABITAT

Due to people's overfishing and the destruction of rivers and lakes by industrial and domestic wastewater, the reproduction and development of fish have been severely affected, and many fish have even become extinct. In addition to environmental management, people can also artificially establish fish habitats to provide freshwater fish with breeding, hiding and feeding places, thereby increasing fish production.

01 BACKGROUND

With economic development and rapid population growth, the impact of urbanization on the regional ecosystem is becoming more and more serious. In recent decades, about 40% of North American freshwater fish have been threatened. Since 1900, at least 57 freshwater fish species in North America have become extinct. Among them, habitat loss is the most common cause of extinction of freshwater fish in the United States. Healthy habitats are essential for the survival of fish, they are necessary for fish reproduction, growth, foraging and shelter. Without these important and healthy habitats, fish will not survive.

These are fish habitats that exist in nature, some are materials that provide basic structures, such as rocks, gravel, etc.; Some are existing vegetation types, such as reeds, lotus and other aquatic plants or tree roots; some are related to Links to other waters, such as estuaries or wetlands.

In each life stage of fish, the living environment they need is different. Only by maintaining the corresponding environment can the development of fish populations be ensured.

The living environment of aquatic animals is very complex. Even some inconspicuous places can affect the balance of the entire ecosystem. Although it will not directly affect fish, it will have an impact on the food source of fish, resulting in a reduction in fish production.

03 CONCEPT SKETCH

Use thinner materials to reduce costs while reducing weight, making it easier for consumers to use.

Some problems were found after passing the test. First, the connection between the panels was not strong, and the original design would loosen due to buoyancy after entering the water. Secondly, the surface of the prosthesis is too smooth, which is not conducive to the attachment of algae. At the same time, the density of the prosthesis is too low and the space utilization rate is not high. Third, the airtight top will cause certain obstacles when entering water. Fourth, the bottom is too flat, which is not conducive to fixing the bottom. Fifth, it is necessary to reserve a fixed position for the possible use of buoys.

More prostheses that extend outward are added, and a large number of holes are reserved for adding different numbers of prostheses according to user needs.

HDPE PVC · prototype 2 · prototype 1 04 PROTOTYPE

In the final design, 1/4 inch HDPE material, 1/8 PVC material and some PE pipes are used, and a complex and compact space is planned by stacking these materials, providing a shelter for juvenile fish inside , to provide hunting space for adult fish.

05 MODEL TEST

The hollowed-out top is conducive to rapid drainage when entering the water, and also allows smaller fish to enter.

Add more grooves to increase the contact area with the ground to make it more stable.

HDPE

The rough surface of the material facilitates the attachment of fish eggs and algae and the survival of plankton, and algae and plankton are the food sources for juvenile fish. When in use, the product is weighted by placing cement blocks inside. The openings on the top and the periphery are also the entrances and exits for juvenile fish while reducing water resistance. The semi-closed interior can slow down the flow of water and prevent juvenile fish from being washed away. After sinking to the bottom of the water, the protrusions at the bottom of the product can better penetrate into the soil to ensure that the product is fixed in place.

Remote Work a Requirement for More U.S. Employees Due to COVID-19

66% of U.S. employees surveyed are working remotely as a result of COVID-19

The sudden arrival of Covid-19 made most people need to work at home or take Online classes, but because there was no need to work at home for a long time before, there was no chair suitable for sedentary sitting at home, which caused most people can only work by sitting on the sofa or dining chair. A comfortable home chair is what they need.

How to design a seat that could service the needs from both decorative and functional needs for work at home?

In order to fulfill both aspects of the demands, I summarized and brainstormed from the following aspects:

Function Comfort

02 PROBLEM STATEMENT

As considering wood would fulfill both of the functional need and Chinese style, and have following advantages: Strength and durability, ease of maintenance, and modifiable, I decided to use wood as my primary material, and started my ideation process.

04 CONCEPT SKETCH

Goal:

Study the connection and shape of wood through 1:6 scaled down models

Some wrong connection methods will cause the model to become unstable and therefore be discarded. At the same time, the proportions of the upper and lower parts of the chair are corrected.

05 PROTOTYPE

The height of the chair is just right, and the proportion of the seat surface is a bit small and needs to be widened and deepened. The angle of the armrest tilted backward is too large, and the elbow part cannot provide support. The curve of the back does not fit the human body completely, and cannot provide support for the waist, so the protrusion needs to be raised.

06 MODEL TEST

The chair has not found any major problems yet, and some of the problems discovered by the first prototype have been resolved. The armrest can provide good support for the arm, but I think the front end of the armrest can be made larger, so that people can have something to grasp in a relaxed state. The protruding part of the cushion is slightly higher, it may be better to lower the height.

01 BACKGROUND

Particulate air pollution is the single greatest threat to human health globally.

According to estimates by the World Health Organization (World Health Organization), about 2 million people worldwide die from air pollution every year. In particular, the quality of indoor air is very important to human health, especially when people spend most of the day indoors, and indoor air circulation is not strong, resulting in higher concentrations of pollutants. There is a wide range of indoor pollutants, including organic or inorganic chemicals, biological aerosols and particles. The most important source of pollutants is environmental tobacco smoke (ETS, also known as second-hand smoke). According to data from the World Health Organization, 40% of children, 33% of male non-smokers and 35% of female non-smokers have been exposed to second-hand smoke.

How to Apply Cultural Elements in Guitar?

To better incorporate cultural elements into the guitar, start with the following resultant aspects.

Materials

Choose woods or other materials that are indigenous or significant to particular cultures. For instance, using Koa wood for Hawaiian-themed guitars or bamboo in East Asian designs can reflect regional characteristics and histories.

Colors

Utilize colors that have cultural significance. For example, red is often associated with good fortune in many Asian cultures, while earth tones might reflect the natural landscapes of African or South American regions.

Themes

Incorporate cultural symbols, patterns, or iconography into the guitar's design. This could include inlaying traditional motifs like Celtic knots for an Irish theme or Maori tribal patterns for a guitar reflecting New Zealand's indigenous culture.

Craftsmanship

Adopt traditional craftsmanship techniques unique to certain cultures. This might involve hand-carving designs based on indigenous art or employing ancient methods of wood aging and treatment known to specific regions.

Flower Pot

Designed for novices who are new to planting or office workers who have less free time, simplifies planting methods and increases space utilization.

01 BACKGROUND

More and more people like to plant some flowers, plants and fruits on the balcony of their homes. Especially during the epidemic period, the long-term stay-at-home order and the spreading epidemic have made everyone feel depressed. People cannot relax their emotions by walking, cycling and other sports. People need some other ways to improve their emotions. Gardening is a good choice. Studies have shown that all types of gardening are beneficial to people's mental health. At the same time, people who grow vegetables and fruits themselves are more likely to get satisfaction than those who only grow flowers or decorative plants.

Needs for plants

The choice of soil will affect the growth rate of plants, pests and diseases, etc.

Plants can only grow within a certain temperature range, too high and too low temperatures will hinder the growth of plants.

Appropriate fertilizer helps plants grow, too much or wrong choice will make the soil harden or become acidic or alkaline, hindering plant growth.

Poor drainage will suffocate plant roots and rot; if drainage is too fast, plants will die due to lack of water.

The amount of light required by plants depends on the type of plant. Some like long hours of light, some like shade.

The growth of plants is limited by the size of the container, and the size of the container is limited by the balcony space.

People generally grow three types of plants
1. Flowers 2. Fruit 3. Herbs
