Dear Brothers and Sisters, On the first Sunday of Advent we are singing the hymn, Wake, Awake, for Night Is Flying. The hymn emphasizes the imminent coming of the Savior and the urgency with which we are to respond. Even though this is a new year in regard to the church calendar, it is also the end of the chronological calendar that we follow. Looking back it is not only the night that is flying but it seems that the whole year has flown by.

Time is a funny thing, when we are waiting to renew a driver’s license it seems to move so very slowly and when looking back over the year or even over one’s life it seems to have passed in the blink of an eye. Before we know it a year or two or ten have gotten past us and the question that comes to me as we begin this season of Advent is have I used this year in a way that gives glory to God, honors the gifts, the life, the salvation God has provided? Jesus calls us to stay awake, to remain alert because His return will be at a moment that is unexpected, and the opportunities to do the work He has called us to in this world can appear at any moment and our time for mission and ministry is limited, we are finite creatures, (infinity is in Christ and is ours beyond the grave and gate of death). Throughout this past year God has come to us with grace and mercy and has revealed Himself as Immanuel, God with us. We have been blessed through the new life that has come through Jesus and all the ways that God has provided for us during this year. So, as we give thanks to God for this past year we look to Jesus not only to return but to lead us and guide us in this new year, to awaken our hearts and minds to the work to which He has called us, that we might as disciples of Christ, approach each day with the urgency reflected in the imminence of Christ’s return and the need of the world for the Word. God bless you as you celebrate the birth of the Savior of the nations and as you prepare for the return of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Have a merry Christmas and a blessed new year. Yours In Christ<><

THRIVENT CHOICE DOLLARS We continue to receive your “Thrivent Choice Dollars” gifts! Over $2,000.00 was donated last year to First English through this program. If you are a Thrivent policy holder you are eligible to also direct your support to First English. The rules have changed a bit in that now the gifting of the “Thrivent Choice Dollars” must be done annually. You can direct your gifts to First English by calling Thrivent at 800-THRIVENT (800-847-4836) and state “Thrivent Choice” or on line at Thrivent.com. ‘Tis the Season for Giving Whether you are a last-minute shopper or the first in line on Black Friday, consider buying your first Christmas gift for a child or young adult on our Giving Tree. You will make their Christmas, literally. A couple clothing items and a toy (something fun) for young children, or a colorful sweater and “accessories” (purse, make-up, jewelry) for teen girls, hoodies, jeans/shirts and team shirts for boys. If shopping is not your thing, donate a few dollars/write a check to FELC/ Giving Tree – there will be envelopes on the tree -- and we will shop for you or use the money to purchase Kroger gift cards for turkeys for the families. If you have a preference for your funds, let us know. And speaking of Kroger’s, the next time you go grocery shopping, grab your favorite can of soup or fruit or vegetables for the food bins for our families. Every little bit helps make a Christmas meal. Gifts and food are due Sunday, December 17h. Thank you, FELC elves, for making our Giving Tree a Christmas tradition at First English.
Bringing in the Harvest As you shop for your Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts, please grab an extra can for our pantry. Food goes fast when you’re feeding over 80 kids (our Giving Tree families). Here’s what we need: Canned soup Canned fruit Canned vegetables Canned tuna/chicken Peanut Butter/Jelly/Jam Pancake Mix/Syrup Mashed Potatoes Stuffing Mix Rice ** We have plenty of cereal, pasta and pasta sauce….thank you! Bountiful blessings to all the anonymous pantry angels who keep filling our shelves all year. We couldn’t “bring in the harvest” without you! Board of Social Action

How to ensure we have a healthy Supply Room Let me introduce myself - my name is Jackie Tambourine and I am on the Board of Fellowship. It is currently my responsibility to keep the pantry stocked, but I need your help. (Just a side note, I am a little OCD when it comes to being organized.) I have attempted to clean out the pantry but there is a lot of stuff stored in there that I have no idea who it belongs to. If your circle or board may have something stored in there, please take a look. If you do have something, please put it in a plastic storage container and mark it. If I can't find an owner or owners, I will put something out in the December or January CLEF listing what is in there. If no one steps up, I will then donate, repurpose or throw out. Also, if you have an upcoming event and require a lot of utensils, plates, cups, etc. please send me an email (email@example.com) with the date, what you need and the quantity. I will pull what you need and let you know where it's at. Lastly, if you do take something out of the pantry and it looks like we are running short, there is a list of supplies posted. Please mark what's needed and either give to Sue or put it on her desk. The two of us will then place an order. By doing this, it will eliminate scrambling to get supplies. Thank you and have a blessed day. Jackie
