From the Editor

S

halom and welcome to the second annual edition of Connections! Feedback on the first edition was extremely positive. The email I received that said it best came from Jerry Flagel, the first president of the local Federation: “Congratulations on a wonderful job! The Federation certainly went above and beyond for a first effort. I must admit that some tears came to my eyes upon reading it, cover to cover. The pride of how far the local Federation has come in less than two decades from the initial formation makes me feel really good.” The goal of Connections is to offer you a comprehensive directory that will enhance your “connection” to our Jewish community. We’ve updated and changed several of the listings from the 2010 edition, added several items, created new calendars, and organized it a little differently. You’re holding a copy of Connections or reading it online thanks to: • Federation Executive Director David Willens and Federation President Rosalee Bogo, who gave me the green light to produce this edition. • The 57 businesses and professionals in our community whose advertisements helped pay for the cost of compiling, printing, mailing and distributing Connections. It was good to see over 30 repeat advertisers. • The dozens of contributors of information found in these pages…from rabbis and synagogue presidents and volunteers, to organization leaders and museum directors, and many more. While compiling, researching and reading the information in this guide, I learned a lot about the wealth of opportunities – cultural, educational, spiritual – available to me and you, members of the Jewish community in Collier County. The success of the Collier County edition of Connections has led to two additional editions for the areas just to the north of Collier. See the following page for details on how you can view those editions online. Everyone involved with Connections hopes you will save it and use it as a guide for the coming year. And please share it with others or have them contact the Federation for their own copy.
