AIM OF THE PROPOSED WORK Bevel gears and spiroid gears are manufactured and measured with same brand equipment (only two manufacturers in US and Europen Union and one in Russia),monopolistic market position of these companies and high prices for complete manufacturing and measuring solution. A possible alternative is to measure gear topography on a multipurpose 3D CMM and generate correction data with a specific software. This method is slow and point-to-point. Specific Innovation project: GMM instead of CMM 1. Objective is to develop an 'independent' software module for measurement on standard gear measuring machine (GMM) diameter 500 mm, support distance 1000 mm. GMM are more compact, provide continous measurement, are faster and more accurate than 3D CMMs, are specifically developed for workshop measurement. 2. EXPECTED RESULTS OF THE PROPOSED WORK


Higher flexibility and higher competition level on spiroid and bevel gears: companies will be able to use different types of measuring and production machines and will be able to correct machine parameters. This leads to higher competition level on the market of gear technology (where at the moment there are only two companies) Automotive, textile, naval, railways industry will be positively affected by the results of this project.The main impact and benefit on the market will be the possibility to correct parameters on different production machines, independently from brand. 1. Use of compact and fast measuring machines in the production floor 2. Universal software for generation of correction data, based on tooth surface analysis, for different types od production machines and not just one brand.

ACTIVITIES TO ACHIEVE THE PROPOSED WORK WP1. Analysis of correction parameters required by different machines and existing 3D software characteristics (state-of-the art) WP2.Design of spiroid topographic analysis for DF 500 GMM, including mathematics and positioning. WP 3 - Set up of GMM with new software and specific fixturing systems for GRA components WP 4 - Test of hobbing and grinding machine parameter correction on production machines in GRA manufacturing plant. The project should preferably be completed in 18 months. Milestones / Deliveries D1 - end of month 6: Analysis of correction parameters required by different machines and existing 3D software characteristics (state-of-the art), analysis of machines and technologies to be affected; D2 - end on month 12: Software module for spiroid topographic analysis for DF 500 GMM, including mathematics, positioning and correction parameters (this part might also be completed at month 18); D3 - end of month 18: DF500 installed in GRA manufacturing plant, with

CONSORTIUM DESCRIPTION Estonia+Piedmont+Slowak ESTONIA Feanor OÜ is a SME located in Tallinn (Estonia), Feanor will coordinate the project and design the software .STRO is a manufacturer of standard and special gear measuring equipment and machine tools for gear manufacturing. STRO will setup his standard DF 500 gear measuring machine with the new software, will assist in design of software for topography, will design and manufacture specific fixturing systems.GRA is a large manufacturer of gearboxes with plants in MANUNET Piedmont region. 1. test of the software module and the GMM (diameter 500, height 1000 mm), in connection with his production machines (both hobbing and grinding technology) 2. assistance in design of the software module for his own bevel and spiroid gears.
