PURPOSE The purpose of this report is to seek recommendation for Cr Harris to be the nominated delegate for the Local Government Arts and Culture Reference Group.

BACKGROUND & PREVIOUS COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Arts Queensland is establishing a Local Government Arts and Culture Reference Group (LGACRG) and is inviting interested senior Council officers and Councillors to apply for membership. The main role of the LGARCRG will be to strengthen relationships between state and local government to effectively position arts and culture, improve advocacy, inform policy, identify strategic priorities and partnership opportunities, and discuss emerging trends and issues in arts and cultural development. The group will be jointly chaired by Arts Queensland and the Local Government Association of Queensland, with membership invited from the Department of Local Government and up to 15 senior officers and Councillors from local Councils. The group will meet twice yearly.

PROPOSAL The Arts & Culture Portfolio Chairperson, Cr Linda Harris has expressed interest in being the nominated delegate from the Fraser Coast Regional Council to apply for membership. It is proposed to seek endorsement of Council to authorise Cr Linda Harris to submit an application to be Council’s delegate on the Local Government Arts and Culture Reference Group Committee.

CONCLUSION It is considered beneficial to have representation on the Local Government Arts and Culture Reference Group Committee to help strengthen relationships between state and local government.

OFFICER’S RECOMMENDATION That Councillor Linda Harris be Council’s nominated delegate to the Local Government Arts and Culture Reference Group and that she be duly authorised to submit an Expression of Interest in applying for membership.
