Animal Ratio per Allotment (Maryborough Area)

CATS •

Up to two (2) cats are permitted within one (1) property.

Up to and including five (5) cats are permitted if approved under the provisions of the Local Law No 2.

The keeping of more than five (5) cats is defined as a “Cattery” – approval must be sought under the provision of the Maryborough City Plan.

DOGS •

Up to two (2) dogs are permitted within one (1) Residential property. A letter must be submitted in writing to the Chief Executive Officer to obtain a permit to house up to three (3) dogs on a Residential property. The applicant must have written permission from all neighbouring properties and this should be included with the application. Applicable fees will apply.

Up to five (5) dogs are permitted within one (1) Rural Residential or Rural property. A letter must be submitted in writing to the Chief Executive Officer to seek approval.

The keeping of more than five (5) dogs is defined as a “Kennel” – approval must be sought under the provision of the Maryborough City Plan.

POULTRY •

Land less than 1000m² - all poultry prohibited.

Land 1000m² or greater – allowed to keep up to

  

14 Domestic Fowls (Chickens) or; 10 Ducks or; 10 Guinea Fowls.

Cannot keep – Geese, Turkeys, Roosters.

Roosters are not permitted on land less than 2000m².

Existing members of the Maryborough Hervey Bay Poultry Club Inc may be exempt from this provision.

An annual permit is required for any premises used or intended for use for the keeping of more than the above number of poultry. A development approval to keep such number of poultry is necessary.

Distances of poultry enclosures must be 15m from dwelling, 10m from road & 2m from any property boundary.

BIRDS •

Up to 25 birds are permitted within one (1) property.

Approval under the provisions of the Local Law Number 2 must be sought to keep more than 25 Birds.

Distances of bird enclosures must be 15m from dwelling, 10m from road & 2m from any property boundary.

HORSES •

Land must be in the Rural-Residential or Rural precinct.

Land less than 4000m² - horses prohibited

Land 4000m² or greater - allowed to keep ratio of 1 horse per 4000m² up to a maximum of 2 horses.

Approval under the provision of the Maryborough City Plan must be sought to keep more than 2 horses.

CATTLE •

Land must be in the Rural-Residential or Rural precinct.

Land less than 4000m² - all cattle prohibited.

Land 4000m² or greater - allowed to keep ratio of 1 “cattle” per 4000m² up to a maximum of 2 “cattle”.

Approval under the provision of the Maryborough City Plan must be sought to keep more than 2 “cattle”.

SHEEP & GOATS •

Land must be in the Rural-Residential or Rural precinct.

Land less than 4000m² - all sheep or goats prohibited.
