Most of the articles I have written for the voice are about music ministry. Nothing wrong with that since most of you see me leading the music on Sunday mornings and I really do love to talk about music and worship. But, in this edition of The Voice, I will focus on another responsibility I have here at church, which is the Senior adult ministry. I am blessed to be a part of this group. I learn so much from them and love spending time with them during our monthly meetings and trips we take around the state. We really have a great time, but I feel that there are a couple of problems. Let me clarify a few and I hope it serves as an encouragement to you. A problem that I see and I take responsibility for is the lack of communication and information about our monthly Keenagers meetings. If you don’t know about them, let me tell you. Once a month, every 3rd Thursday of the month, our senior adults meet for 1 hour and 45 minutes (11:15a.m. – 1p.m.) for a meal and to hear special music and speakers brought from our church, our community, and even out of state. They are always very interesting, informative, and well prepared. The meetings are always super organized with time for fellowship, updates on what’s going on around our church, prayer, and, of course, good food. Please, please come and be a part of these meetings. You have at least 720 hours in a month--come spend a couple of them on one Thursday a month to be blessed by others on the same journey and walk of life as you. Another thing I see is that we have different groups of senior adults. It feels like we are separated, like teenagers and their cliques. The cool crowd, the studious crowd, the band people, and the list goes on. We are better that, support YOUR ministry at our church.

If some of you have different suggestions on how to engage our folks, the leadership of the meetings is ready to receive your input. If you come and just sit, and don’t tell us, “it’s too slow for me, or I am not old enough or I have better things to do,” I humbly ask you to change your attitude. We have faithful people that come to every Keenagers’ meeting, several that come often, and many (the majority of our seniors, actually) who either never come or rarely come. I would like to ask you to consider adding the Keenagers’ meetings to your monthly schedule. If for no other reason, come for the food! Joking aside, please pray for this ministry. I know we can have at least 100 people in these meetings. For the next two months we have musical guests! On November 15, we are hosting Ron Brewer from Georgia via the Tennessee Mountains! He is an award winning, recording artist, Southern-gospel country singer. You can visit his website at www.ronbrewerministries.com for more information. And of course, our December program is the Show Choir from our local high school under the direction of our own Luanne Hawk. This is a great opportunity to love on these kids and their families. We feed them and in return they sing Christmas songs for us. It’s always one of the highlights of our year and usually the most well-attended meeting. Listen, I don’t mean to get on you. I tell you these things because I care for and love you and the ministry here at FB Sebring. I want you to be a part of it and be blessed by it. I believe God is in control of everything, and He has put this burden on my heart to write you this for a reason. Open your heart to listen for His voice. God bless you!
