“And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” -Hebrews 10:24-25

I find myself every summer saying, “This is the busiest summer I’ve ever had.” It’s odd, really, the way the summer is simultaneously a season of high activity and lower presence. Everyone seems to run in a million different directions, yet it seems those directions hardly interest (unless they’re in the direction of the beach). With the arrival of August, however, the hurried energies of the summer begin to wind down as school calls students and teachers back to the classroom and parents back into something akin to a “normal” schedule of life. We see this play out in the church as well, for with start of the new school year comes the return of regular patterns of attendance and participation in the life of the church. Some of this is quite direct: we will th resume Wednesday evening meals on August 9 at 5:30 PM as we hear from the Parks about their work as CBF field personnel. Some of this less direct, more accidental: people are home more on the weekends, so they tend to make it to church more frequently on Sunday mornings. Whatever the case may be, I pray that this August will begin a season of re-commitment for you. May you re-commit to faithful participation in the life of the church. May you re-commit to faithful attendance to services of worship, prayer, and Bible study. May you re-commit to faithful giving of your resources to the work of God’s kingdom through the practice of giving tithes and offerings. May you re-commit to praying for one another, for your church, your community, and our world. May you re-commit to listening for the call of Christ all around you, and my you re-commit to obeying that call. I pray that this August will be the beginning of a season of re-commitment for each of us as we continue on in this journey of faith together as Christ’s Church at Williams. Grace and Peace, Chris P.S. As most of you know by now, Scotti and Amber Simpson have ended their time with us as co-interim ministers of youth. We are grateful to them for their service among us and send them with our prayers and blessings into a new chapter of life and ministry in the Atlanta area. The personnel committee has already met with and secured a candidate for interim youth minister, and you will hear about this decision very soon. What this means going forward is that the personnel committee will begin an earnest effort in searching for permanent candidates for our part-time positions of Minister of Youth and Minister of Music. Pray for them, for your church, and for whomever Christ is calling to fill these positions on a permanent basis.
