Se si potesse sviluppare l’architettura passo per passo, cominciando dall’aspetto economico e tecnico e continuando poi con le funzioni umane più complesse, allora l’atteggiamento del funzionalismo tecnico sarebbe accettabile. Ma questo è impossibile. L’Architettura non solo copre tutti i campi dell’attività umana, ma deve essere anche sviluppata contemporaneamente in tutti questi campi. Altrimenti avremo solo risultati unilaterali e superficiali. La Scandinavia accende le luci delle architetture progettate. Gli spazi, i colori, le venature degli edifici appartengono alla natura e dalla natura prendono forma. Si osserva l’interminabile vegetazione che disegna i luoghi mentre un’abitazione ci appare in tutta la sua nudità nascosta ma continuamente svelata dallo spazio che la circonda. L’architettura organica europea di matrice scandinava, di cui l’architetto Alvar Aalto è il massimo rappresentante, è la cifra di questa complessità. Qui e non oltre, la Scandinavia sintetizza il luogo e lo stile, le sfumature della natura che si riflettono sulle bianche facciate delle architetture; il progetto “organico” che trova dall’altro lato dell’oceano Frank Lloyd Wright intento a ritrovare lo spazio naturale per costruire. E’ a questa completa realtà strutturale e spaziale dell’edificio che il Movimento Organico (nato in Svezia negli anni ‘30) presta attenzione: alla proiezione dell’architettura nel complesso delle attività umane che vi si svolgono. Organico in quanto negli spazi interni dell’architettura ricerca la felicità materiale e spirituale dell’Uomo; organico perché estende questa esigenza dall’ambiente isolato alla casa, dalla casa alla città e dalla città
Scandinavia turns on the lights over planned architecture. The spaces, colors, and veins of the buildings belong to nature and take their form from it. You see the endless vegetation that outlines places while a house appears in all its nudity hidden but constantly revealed by the surrounding space. The Scandinavian vein of European organic architecture, with the architect Alvar Aalto as its major exponent, is the code to this complexity. It is this full structural and spatial reality of buildings which the Organic Movement (founded in Sweden in the thirties) focuses on: the projection of architecture into the complex of human activities that are carried out within. Organic because the architecture’s interior spaces are aimed at the material and spiritual happiness of Men; organic because it extends this need from the isolated environment of the house, from the house to the city and from the city to the environment. The space – the sum of the relations between man and the world around him – is the sole useful end product of the building; its manipulation is the greatest challenge
