We campaign for a clean, safe, fair, transparent and accountable fashion industry. We do this through research, education, collaboration, mobilisation1 and advocacy2. The issues in the fashion industry never fall on any single person, brand, or company. That’s why we focus on using our voices to transform the entire system. With systemic3 and structural change, the fashion industry can lift millions of people out of poverty and provide them with decent and dignified livelihoods. It can conserve and restore our living planet. It can bring people together and be a great source of joy, creativity and expression for individuals and communities. We believe in a global fashion industry that conserves and restores the environment and values people over growth and profit.

Fashion Revolution Week happens every year in the week surrounding the 24th of April. This date is the anniversary of the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse. Rana Plaza, a building in Bangladesh, housed a number of garment factories, employing around 5,000 people. The people in this building were manufacturing clothing for many of the biggest global fashion brands. Over 1,100 people died in the collapse and another 2,500 were injured, making it the fourth largest industrial disaster in history. The victims were mostly young women.

During uncertain times such as our current global pandemic, we know that the most vulnerable are disproportionately affected. At the same time, the vast majority of the people who make our clothes are themselves vulnerable, and lacking sick pay, paid leave, or adequate health care. What is a ‘love story’? We need to buy less and buy with love; buy only what we need, or what we truly want, no longer on a whim or an impulse. Take your time, choose only the pieces you intend to keep. Let’s take it slow, and commit to a long term relationship with our clothes. Wear things over and over, and cherish, care and repair the ones you already own. Did you know that the most sustainable garment is the one already in your wardrobe? We are asking clothes keepers from all over the world to join the Fashion Revolution and create a Love Story. We hope telling this story will inspire you and your friends, family and followers to experiment with different ways to experience clothing. This guide shows you how. Tell your love story No one can replace the beautiful jacket that your grandmother wore and gave to you. Or that perfect little dress you found while travelling somewhere special. Rather than buying new, fall back in love with the things you already own. Share a story, or write a love letter about a piece of clothing that means a lot to you.

Film it Make a video introducing us to your piece of clothing. You could be wearing it, or pick it out from your wardrobe. You could even share the love stories of an entire outfit! Upload it to Youtube or another video platform, and include these Fashion Revolution links in the description box:

Write about it
Share a photo of the piece of clothing you love. Tell us it’s story, the journeys you’ve shared, why you love it. You could make a photo collage of you wearing it.
Write a love poem or letter to your piece of clothing. It could be as short as a haiku, as long as a sonnet. You could record it for radio, a podcast or interview your friends about their most-loved pieces in their wardrobe.

What is it?
How do I do it?
Stitch ‘n’ Bitch is a term that’s been around since the 40s. Its a group that gest together to knit, sew and craft whilst talking. Pretty simple.
Invite your friends to a Zoom (or your preferred social platform) group and repair together. Whether you are darning your socks, embroidering your jeans or simply picking up a dropped hem, do it together.
