Steven Strazzullo: Editor in Chief

For those of you who stumbled around with a dumb grin on your face after the clock magically struck twelve on the first of this year, it has now become high tide. 2014! This is going to be the year when things happen around here, you proclaimed, and now you are swirled up into that prophecy, so tightly at times, that sparks fly off of you, sometimes onto the pessimistic passerby. You have fallen and risen, and on each swell you can’t help but fall madly in love. Such is the way of the true artist that creates with an open heart. As the summer heat begins to sink in, these feelings will fester, swell, and explode into the air, causing a chemical reaction that will stain the city with a yellowish hue. Your body will become more pliable, and you will move along Fremont Street like a piece of chewing gum, pulled slowly from clenched teeth. Let yourself burn, as brightly and as raging as it takes to get yourself there, because you are ready, and the universe awaits. Yours to the moon and back, Catherine and Steven

In the spirit of the Kentucky Derby, extravagant hats designed by award winning milliner Louisa Voisinewere featured on the runway. The final portion of the show featured gowns designed by Vegas Couture designer Wanda Potter-Merritt. Dress for Success, an organization created to provide mentoring and proper interview attire for women seeking employment, was happy to announce that the event raised over $10,000 on the silent auction alone. Dapper Factory Brings Grace and Glam to Downtown Las Vegas with Mayor Carolyn Goodman at Grand Opening Party On May 8th, Mayor Carolyn Goodman, graced the doorway of the new Dapper Factory with a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate its grand opening, and also to announce that the property and its surrounding area will become a garment district for Las Vegas. Derek Smoot, the owner and designer for Dapper Industries and founder of the Dapper Factory had a vision, not only to create a hub that would bring awareness for local designers and provide for better quality control of the making of his products for Dapper Industries, but to alleviate the need to outsource manufacturing, keeping sales revenue in the state of Nevada. “Las Vegas thrives on style, high fashion and class. I wanted to create a home for local fashion brands to showcase their talent and add some flare to the Las Vegas retail district. I couldn’t feel more thrilled about the dy-

namic new clients we’re servicing and our ever-present capacity for growth,” says Smoot. The Dapper Factory is the first and only garment manufacturing company in Las Vegas offering custom tailoring, bridal wear, sportswear, formal wear, swimwear, uniforms, leather and “cut and sew.” Opened by Derek Smoot and with generous guidance, mentorship and contributions from expert celebrity haute women’s couture designer David Tupaz, it features a showroom storefront for local designers to showcase and sell an exclusive selection of locally-made fashion. The Dapper Factory proudly hosts all Made-in-USA women’s and men’s fashion wear and accessories as well as women’s athletic apparel and jewelry. They also manufacture bulk garments for casinos and private designers alike. The event included a runway show with gorgeous models strutting the catwalk with looks from seven local designers, and a surprise finale performance from Freakshow, a dance troupe from San Diego. TC’s world famous BBQ Rib Crib served up southern-style BBQ to party-goers with proceeds benefitting the Fashion Hope Charity. View Gallery Here 7

DANCE MEETS FASHION On May 17th, Nancy Boucher of Extreme Beauty Marketing launched Dance Meets Fashion at the Lily Lounge at the Bellagio. Benefitting the Heaven Can Wait Animal Society, the event featured a beautiful Argentinian tango, an art auction, and a fashion show featuring the 2014 evening gown collection by Jeaune Roe. Once again, Roe has proved herself to be one of Las Vegas’ top designers, producing a stunning array of black gowns, many featuring sheer elements, yet still retaining the height of class. To accent them, Kristen Pock and Karyn Brown, of Rhinestones and Razorblades, personally adorned each model with pieces from their statement-making jewelry line. Roe and Pock were both named Las Vegas Raw Artist of the year in December in their respective categories, and have been collaborating in a whirlwind of high-fashion shoots ever since. Their visions complement each other’s beautifully, and their pieces are perfect for any upscale event. Hats off to Nancy Boucher, for producing such a lovely event for such a lovely cause.

Meet the newest member of our team, street style photographer and blogger,

Stacey Shively.

She is truly passionate about capturing the essence of our city’s style. In addition to newly launching her site,, she will also be doing a monthly street style column for us. We know how it feels to step into the blogging world, and couldn’t be more happy she took the leap. Here is her first piece, along with some great shots she was able to get of some of our stylish citizens. Street Peeper A few years back my friend Janelle was photographed for a Street Fashion Blog out of NYC. Truthfully, I’ve always admired my friend’s fashion sense — or maybe I was a bit jealous. She’s never been afraid to go out on a limb and express her own personal style. Let’s face it, most people wouldn’t wear a red felt sombrero, but she rocks it. Not just because she looks good in it, but mostly because she “owns” it.

Its true, Vegas isn’t Paris or New York in terms of fashion but we have style. Look off the the bright lights of the Blvd and you will notice Vegas represents in its own way. Especially now that our arts district and downtown are buzzing with new creativity and inspiration. Las Vegas- a crazy melting pot of east meets west, meets north & south. I love it. It is unique and I am here to capture it. Hopefully, I can bring some inspiration to your closet, or at least give you the encourThe thought of photographing a complete agement to let your chic flag fly. stranger, in the street, sporting their own unique style was intriguing. In the back of xo, my mind I thought, “One day I am going to Stacey Shively muster up enough courage to start my own Editor & Photographer of OfftheBlvd. blog”. Months of procrastination turned into com years but that little seed of inspiration never died. I finally realized, “It’s now or never, Shively, go get it.” Just start this blog. 20

hOSTED BY goodwill On the eve of Thursday May 22nd, Goodwill of Southern Nevada hosted The Blue Party, a fabulous runway fashion event including art and live music. The event took place at the World Market Center located near downtown Las Vegas. Local designers were given a special task: they selected pieces from Goodwill and recreated/embellished them for the fashion show. The evening kicked off with great music and a mixer under the setting desert sun. Tasty bites were provided by Mundo- A Latin Chic Restaurant which is located within the World Market Center. Dulce Amor, Goodwill Deja Blue Boutique, and the Las Vegas Fashion Council were among some of the vendor booths in attendance. Photo opportunities that were a hit, and included TNG Models’ Marilyn Monroe, Chippendale’s Ryan Stuart, and my personal favorite, Legend’s Lady Gaga. As the sun set the fashion show kicked off, the attendees drew in close to check out the designers creations, myself included. The designers included Mitch Atkinson, Carlos Bruce, Maria Bruce, Tiffany M. Lewis, Aldo Mencatto, Wanda Merritt, and Glenn Wright.
