...More on previous page Opico used the event to launch an attractive zero per cent finance package on its He-Va Disc Roller Contour and Maschio drills and combi-drills. Other highlights on the stand included updates to the Sky MaxiDrill. Improvements include a change to cast disc arms replacing fabricated steel, and better fertiliser placement. Previously fertiliser was applied in a band ahead of the seed coulters but the latest version supplies it direct in line for better availability to the plant. Independent depth adjustment allows precise placement and the supply tubes can also be used for companion crops. Both supplies are fed from the same fan but airflow can be adjusted separately to suit different seed sizes. The MaxiDrill is designed for min-till crop establishment and is extremely versatile, explained Sky product specialist Joe Redman. “It’s a long drill with plenty of space between the forward cultivation elements and the seed coulters, making it ideal for wet or high residue conditions. This means the drilling window is extended later in the autumn and earlier in the spring,” he added. Pictured are Joe Redman (left) and Sky technical salesman Fabian Desports.

J Brock & Sons displayed cultivators and drills from its Brock Farmet and Brock-Ag ranges at the event. It was the first opportunity for many to see Farmet and Brock-Ag drills in action, since the additions to the Essex company’s range were first revealed at its 2017 open day. The Campaign 900S 9m drill was designed in-house and director Philip Brock said a wider 12m version is currently under construction. “The 9m drill was trialled this spring and successfully established almost 200ha of crops,” he explained. “It performed well in both heavy clays and lighter soils, and there are just a few minor issues to improve before we offer it commercially. Drilling wheat only at 15kph was no problem but when fertiliser was added the total volume sometimes proved an issue. We are modifying the point at which product enters the air stream so that high volumes of seed and fertiliser together, during high speed drilling, are handled equally well. We will be demonstrating this autumn and are taking orders now for spring delivery.” Philip said the Farmet drill is also generating interest, particularly since it was seen working at a small demonstration event in May. “The crops it planted have established well. They emerged evenly and are looking good and we are keen to demonstrate this great drill during autumn too,” he added. J Brock & Sons stocks and sells an extensive range of used machinery and Philip said demand remains strong for good, used cultivation equipment, especially for export. Ploughs and short discs are in particular demand, he explained.
