This is a great way to establish healthy habits for your children and introduce them to the sport of running. Speed is not a factor here; as there are no awards for first place - everyone is a winner. This is all about having a great time, setting goals and learning to make healthy lifestyle choices.

WHY FARGO ROCKS GET TO KNOW YOUR COURSE

Hjemkomst center The Hjemkomst Center is the home of the Hjemkomst Viking Ship, the Hopperstad Stave Church replica, and a wide collection of local artifacts and archives. In addition to its permanent collection, the museum hosts festivals, special events, and four floors of traveling exhibitions. In May of 2017, the Hjemkomst Center will host “Wet & Dry: Alcohol in Clay County, 1871-1937;” “FargoMoorhead Visual Artists’ BIG Show;” “Frontier Foundations: The History of Early Moorhead;” and “History and Heritage: Celebrating 125 Years of Concordia College.” The museum is run by the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County, whose mission is to collect, preserve, interpret, and share the history and culture of Clay County, MN.

Island Park While being the oldest park in Fargo, Island Park is also one of the most desirable locations to hold a wedding. Featuring a gorgeous gazebo in the middle of the park that can accommodate up to 30 people. The gazebo is also utilized for various summer events that are hosted by the Fargo Park District. Island Park also features the Angel of Hope, which is a monument for those who are mourning the loss of a child. The park showcases Sidewalk Poetry. The poetry was created by children in the Fargo area and then stamped into the walkway.

FRIDAY NIGHT 5K HERO RUN BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF ND & DISCOVERY BENEFITS FRIDAY NIGHT 5K HERO RUN – THIS YEAR, IT’S ABOUT SAYING “THANK YOU” The Friday Night 5K Hero Run concept was born out of the tragic loss of Fargo Police Officer Jason Moszer in February of 2016. That event shook our community and the whole country responded to this. The idea that came about was to bring people together at the Friday Night 5K to run or walk as a sign of solidarity throughout our community and the region (in light of the Moszer tragedy). Eventually, that idea grew into something even more important...to remember, celebrate, honor and say “thank you” to ALL of the heroes that are out there. Law enforcement officers, fire fighters, EMS, military personnel, and the list could go on and on. Maybe the hero is a teacher...maybe it’s a parent? So, the Friday Night 5K Hero Run was born last year, and we’re keeping that spirit alive in 2017!

Dawson insurance and ups Marathon RElays DAWSON INSURANCE and UPS MARATHON RELAYS Yes. Running is a team sport!! Gather your friends, family or coworkers to build a 4-person team, with each member running between 5.5 and 7 miles. 400 different teams will be competing for bragging rights at the Annual Dawson Insurance Fargo Marathon 4- Person Relay! Or, break up the full marathon by 2 with the UPS 2-Person Relay! There are four divisions in the Marathon Relay: All Male, All Female, 2 Male & 2 Female and Anything Mixed Division (limited to male or female). Team members will be stationed at exchange stations, and once your runner teammate comes in, it’s time for you to leave! Relay Exchange shuttle buses located on the west side of the FARGODOME on race morning will provide transportation to and from these exchange stations... details will be available at the Essentia Health - Health Products & Fitness Expo on May 18th and 19th.

DEFINITELY the region’s LARGEST 5K Event in the past, and now…we’re shooting to become one of the top ten largest in the country! If you want to be a part of the Fargo Marathon, but are looking for something a little less than 26.2 or 13.1 miles...this is it! Sprinters, joggers, walkers and families can all participate in this awesome event! This race will take participants on an exciting trip 3.1 Miles through NDSU and North Fargo! If you are reading this now and have not signed up...there is still time... come to the FARGODOME to register on Thursday, May 18th from Noon to 8PM or Friday, May 20th from 10 AM until 5:00 PM. American flags and people coming together for the special event. Our community would make a tremendous statement about how strong we are...we can continue to show the world that we live in the best community in the country!

PARKING, SHUTTLES, and BUSES ON RACE DAY

North Pacific Avenue North Pacific Ave, or otherwise known as NP Ave, is where racers will reach mile 22. It is a very important road in the history of the city because it hugs the o r i g i n a l railroad in Fargo. The North Pacific railroad crossing was a major factor in the founding and growth of Fargo-Moorhead. In fact, Fargo is named after William G Fargo, who was the Director of North Pacific and also the co-founder of Wells Fargo Express Company.

PARKING ON RACE DAY While there is a lot of parking available at the Fargodome, Saturday morning tends to get pretty busy. For those people coming up to the Fargodome by car, below is a map of the suggested parking lots to use based on when you arrive. As lots fill up, we will close off access and open up other lots.

RELAY RUNNERS EXCHANGE BUSES The 2 and 4 Person Relay Runners can utilize our Relay Exchange Buses to get to and from the Relay Exchanges. These buses will be located on the west side of the FARGODOME as detailed in the map.

fargo marathon shuttle locations

TAKE A SHUTTLE BUS ON RACE DAY

El Zagel golf course El Zagel shrine has had a sizable presence in Fargo since its founding on December 14th, 1890. Originally their temple offices and ceremonies were located in Downtown Fargo. In 1920, El Zagel holding company purchased the 40 acres of land they now call home. However, in 1940 much of the land was converted to the El Zagel golf course, which continues to be a highly successful and popular course within the community. The entire Shriners organization continues to helped children through the Shriners Hospital for Children. 12

For those of you who are from out of town or who wish to avoid driving to the FARGODOME on Saturday morning, we’ve got you covered! There are 5 different pickup and drop-off points in Fargo-Moorhead where you can jump on a shuttle bus that will take you to the FARGODOME. Once your race is over, those buses will be available to take you back to your original pickup point. Below is the map of where those pickup points are.

OFFICIAL BEER SPONSOR OF THE FARGO MARATHON

FIND YOUR HAPPY PACE The Bobcat Corporation Pace Team is HERE! Sponsored by Bobcat Corporation and brought in as a benefit to the marathon. We will be offering pace groups led by experienced pacers for a wide variety of finish times in both the half and full marathons. Signing up for the pace teams can be done at packet pick-up/ registration! The Bobcat Pace Team is a group of runners led by an experienced leader who run together in the marathon. The pace leader runs a steady pace and keeps track of that pace so that the group can achieve their goal of finishing the marathon at a particular time. There are wonderful benefits of running with a pace group. You’ll be supported by a cheerful leader and will be side by side with other runners sharing the same goal as you. One of the biggest mistakes that marathoners make is starting out too fast and then hitting the wall in the later portions of the race. The pace team will run at an even pace per mile. If the pace feels too slow in the beginning of the race, that’s normal. Just stay with the group and ask the pace leader about an appropriate strategy for the second half. If you find the pace too fast in the early miles, then slow down and drop back from the team so you’ll be able to finish the race. There is no cost to join the Pace Teams. About 30 minutes before the start, the Pace Teams will be assembling in the starting area. About 15 minutes before the start, the Pacer will give you some last minute instructions about running with the group. They will talk about the course, what to do if you need a break, and how to make it through the water stops. The Pace Teams will be wearing a signature Pace Team uniform and carrying sticks which show their anticipated Pace/Finish Time. 26

Race results and photography RACE RESULTS All of the race results will be posted on our website at www.fargomarathon.com when they are available. Results will also be provided at the finish line via internet and paper postings. Official results e-certificates will be sent out within 5 days of the race.

RACE PHOTOGRAPHY At Marathonfoto, the goal is to capture an athlete’s greatest moments on film. Marathonfoto specializes in photographing marathons, half marathons, and triathlon. They are the official race photographer of the Scheels Fargo Marathon. Check out all marathon weekend photos following the event at www.marathonfoto.com
