Highest Performing in Hampshire The recently released Government’s Data Service league tables confirmed that Fareham College has risen up the performance tables to become the highest performing college in Hampshire and 8th highest performing in the country. The tables contain performance data on all colleges, regardless of type, in the country. But that’s not all; the College has also recently been inspected by OfSTED who confirmed the College as ‘good’ with some excellent features and extremely high performance. The inspectors commented that the students’ behaviour and their approach to work is ‘excellent’. The report overwhelmingly describes Fareham College’s results as significantly above other similar colleges and commends it on the quality of its provision, particularly its approach to teaching and learning as well as its highly productive working relationships with local and national employers. Leah Palmer, Director with responsibility for employment services commented; “preparing students for work and ensuring that they have the very best chance of securing jobs after their training is one of our key objectives”. Although many of our students continue their studies at a higher level at university, many look for work during their courses as well as once they are qualified. Our highly proactive Employment Hub seeks out employment opportunities and matches them with the student. This was praised by OfSTED as being highly effective. Scarlett Wells, who is in her second year at the College and next year’s Student President, said; “OfSTED were very complimentary about the College saying that the College has very high standards and expectation of its students. She went on to say; “It’s a great place to study and learn with excellent facilities and tutors. All students are treated as adults and expected to work hard to achieve their qualifications”.

Nigel Duncan, Principal and Chief Executive of the College, described the report as extremely positive and a tribute to the hard work undertaken by staff and students of the College. He went on to say; “we are very proud of the College’s performance and our OfSTED report which compliments the College for its progress and endorses the College’s strategic objective to become outstanding. He went on to comment “this is a terrific boost for the College as it embarks on the exciting development of a brand new Centre of Excellence for engineering and manufacturing on the Solent Enterprise Zone. The £12m state of the art development, due to open its doors in September 2014, will extend the technical provision of the College to be one of the best in the country. The Centre, which will accommodate over 900 students, will be offering courses in all engineering disciplines and is supported by a number of key local and national companies such as; Britten-Norman, Virgin Atlantic, Sapphire Aviation, BAE Systems Jensen Motorsport and GE Aviation. The College, with its sister organisation Gosport College, has been developing a range of high quality full and part time training courses for many years and now has well over 100 different courses available for all ages. For further information and advice about courses contact the Student Advice Team on 01329 815 200 or visit the college’s websites www.fareham.ac.uk or www.gosport.ac.uk

Can we help with your fees? Funding is available for a wide range of courses.

Are you eligible for FREE or assisted study? WHAT IS THE FEE FOR YOUR CHOSEN COURSE? All the fees are listed on our website under Part-Time courses, go to www.fareham.ac.uk and search by course name or code.

I CURRENTLY RECEIVE BENEFITS, WHAT DO I NEED TO PAY? If you are aged 19-23 years and receive benefits i.e. Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance, you may be able to study for free or receive a discounted rate. The same also applies if you are aged 24+ and receive benefits (as above) and studying below a Level 3.

FEE PAYMENT If you aren’t eligible for a free part time course, don’t worry we can help ease the burden. Many of our courses are eligible for the new 24+ Loans – see more about that on page 35. Taking out a loan isn’t the only way you can pay for your course. If your course fees are over £500 then we also offer an option to pay by Direct Debit instalments. This will spread the cost of your fees over a number of months (subject to confirmation at enrolment)*. The first instalment is due on enrolment, with two further equal payments to follow. All instalments must be paid even if you later withdraw from the course before it ends. If your course fees are being paid by an employer or other third party, you will be given all the necessary information at enrolment. *Terms and conditions apply. If paying by instalments a service charge of £20 will be applied.

I DON’T RECEIVE BENEFITS, WHAT DO I NEED TO PAY?

ARE THERE ANY OTHER ADDITIONAL COSTS?

If you are aged 19-23 years and want to study for your first full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification (BTEC Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 or equivalent), you may be able to study for free or receive a discounted rate.

For some courses there may be additional costs such as course books, trips, uniforms or specialist equipment. Where a course has additional costs you will see the symbol. Information about additional costs can be found at www.fareham.ac.uk, or please call 01329 815 200 and one of our Student Advisors will guide you through the details.
