IT’ S A B O U T MOR E T H A N J U ST LO O K IN G AT W HAT’S O N TH E S U R FA C E . . . It’s over! We made it! With E3 now in the rear-view mirror and the dust starting to settle it’s time to check out the games that managed to stand out from the crowd and the publishers that left the biggest impression. This year’s E3 felt longer. In fact it felt even bigger than previous years. Perhaps it had something to do with the slow trickle of reveals and debuts in the weeks leading up to the event itself or maybe it’s down to the fact things “unofficially” kicked off on a Saturday and didn’t slow until the Thursday. Long or not though, there was plenty to discuss at the event. And while this year didn’t offer anything new in the way of hardware it did offer publishers and developers the chance to show off their biggest and best games. From Killer Queen Black to Death Stranding and everything in between the future of gaming is a bright one indeed. See you all next year! Ryan Janes

20 18 TO P P I C KS E3 used to overflow with surprises but numbers have diminished over time with this year’e event particularly low, so in that regard, for me, E3 2018 was somewhat disappointing. Having said that, there were still plenty of titles shown that I can’t wait to get my hands on, including some interesting little indie efforts. Being bored of sequels every year, I’ve largely ignored them this time round, except the rebooted Hitman and Tomb Raider series (I’ve a soft spot for Tomb Raider!), plus of course Beyond Good & Evil. What excited me most, however, was Cyberpunk 2077, partly because it’s fresh and new, but also because it genuinely looks to be a great game.

What a fantastic E3! So many games to pick from. Being a big Super Smash Bros. fan expectations were high and somehow Nintendo even surpassed those with Ultimate. Cyberpunk 2077’s debut left quite the impression too during Microsoft’s event, the trailer alone revealing a unique world I want to dive into. It may have only been a teaser but seeing Bethesda is working on a Doom sequel is enough to get me excited after the over the top, action packed 2016 release. On the indie side, Killer Queen Black looks set to be the ultimate party game and I can’t wait to get my hands on it later this year.
