FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Community Members, In the 2013­2014 school year, Dayton Grade School received an Overall State Rating of Level 2.  While this is an improvement it means that our students are still not achieving as expected on the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.  Dayton Grade School was previously designated a Priority School and we are currently working through an improvement process with support from the Oregon Department of Education.  During the last assessment cycle Dayton Grade School students in grades 3­5 showed growth in both reading and math.  This growth is significant, but we strive for greater improvement, and will continue to work toward increased

student achievement.  Teachers work in grade level teams to make data based instructional decisions to meet each student’s needs.  We are also continuing our focus on providing evidence­based interventions for students who are functioning below grade level academically. Each of us plays a role in our students’ success.  Thank you for your commitment to our team.  We look forward to seeing you at Open House, Student Conferences, Family Nights and other events throughout the year.  This partnership will lead to a bright future for our students.
