THE ESSENTIAL PRE MATCH BRIEFING FROM FALKIRK TV

Queen of the South v Falkirk Saturday 17th December 2011 Palmerston Park Kick-off 3pm

Steven

PRESSLEY “We know if we continue to play in the manner we did last week then we will win a lot more than we will lose,” the manager told his weekly press conference. “The one thing that is evident to me is teams are definitely changing their style when they come to play us and in doing this are giving our group of players the respect that they have earned this season. In the early part of the season teams were looking at the team sheet, seeing the inexperience and thinking they could turn us over and now they are changing there game plan.

P.4 Kallum Higginbotham Interview

“It is certainly a different challenge for us but we will not change the way we play. We will continue to attack and play in an organised fashion. “Everybody knows Gus McPherson is a very shred manager and his teams are always well organised and well disciplined. We know it will be a difficult game. “Palmerston is always a tough venue. We managed to win twice down there last season with two good performances and we’d love to continue that run. It is a good challenge for our group of players.

P.6 Last Meeting

P.8 Match Preview

“We have kept two clean sheets in our last two games and that always gives you something to build from and if we can continue in the defend in this manner then we have every chance of winning today.”

THE INTERVIEW

Russell Croal

@RCroal92

allum Higginbotham spoke the media after last Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Hamilton. He started by admitting he felt we did enough to secure the three points but could take plenty of positives from the game, “definitely, especially with the chances that we had from Farid (El Alagui) and David Weatherston. On another day they go in and we go and win two or three nil, but today obviously wasn't that day. “It was frustrating only to get the point but I thought we played really well and all the aspects of our game were bang on. We caused Hamilton quite a lot of problems. They came to sit in, if we had got an early goal then they would have had to come out and have a go and there would have been spaces. The longer the game went on the more they sat back and played for the point and with all due respect to them, that’s what they got.” David Weatherston looked devastated after missing an open goal in the dying minutes. Kallum was quick to point out the contribution his teammate has made since arriving at the club, “obviously his head is down but he has come in and done really well so nobody has been on his back. David has just got to pick himself up in training this week and go again next Saturday.

have seen how young the team is, if we can keep the squad together, then in 2 or 3 years time we will be a really, really good side.

“Anyone who misses from a yard out and puts the ball over the bar is going to be gutted. All the boys have got round him in the dressing room and told him ‘you has been magnificent since you came here and we cannot blame you for putting it over.’

Kallum finished by identifying the friendly against Leeds United as a key factor in this seasons successes, “everyone on the bus coming back from Peterhead was looking forward to the Leeds game. Even although we got beaten by Leeds I think all the young boys pulled together and put on a really good performance. I think that gave us the boost we needed.

“I asked him if the ball bobbled and he said ‘it doesn't matter if it did I should still be scoring it.’ I’m not sure if it did because I turned away thinking he had scored.” “It just wasn’t to be and were disappointed about the point but proud of the performance.” Kallum believes that this team has great potential for the future but is not ready to give up any dreams of winning the title just yet, “we’re definitely not going to throw the towel in until the last day of the season, so we’ll see where we are then. You

“Everyone wants it done overnight but there has been a big change in the club after all the players that were let go in the summer. Its going to take time to get where we want to be but that’s football.”

“We are in the semi-final of a big cup, the final of another and are sitting 3rd in the league. We have gone past most peoples expectations so far. We certainly know what we can do in the dressing room when we all pull together, and that includes the fans. “After back to back defeats the supporters still came out and supported us on Saturday and I’d just like to say thank you to them as well.”

THE PREVIEW

Bairns look to get back to winning ways at Palmerston this afternoon Queen of the South v Falkirk: Match Preview

Craig Turnbull

@CTTurnbull

alkirk will look to get back to winning ways this afternoon against Queen of the South after an encouraging display against Hamilton last weekend. After a bruising battle against the Accies, Farid El Alagui was only able to return to training on Friday However Alex Smith is hopeful he will make it, "Farid has only done a limited amount of training but fingers crossed he will make it. "We could not prise open the Accies defence last week despite a lot of effort and I would imagine that Gus McPherson will have his side's defence just as well organised as Hamilton's so it will be a close game. It took until injury time to win it last time and we may need to be as patient again." Gus McPherson will be looking for revenge after Darren Dods snatched a 95th minute winner when we last faced Queens in October. "We lost a goal in the 95th minute the last time we played. It was a cruel way to lose a game as it came from a corner after our goalkeeper had just saved a penalty. "They enjoyed plenty of possession but we had kept their chances to a minimum and it would be great to do that again but have a more attacking

threat ourselves this time. We have to start the game well if we are to do anything. "Falkirk are doing well, both home and away, and let`s not forget they`re in the semi-finals of the Scottish Communities Cup. "Their manager, Steven Pressley, has made his mark on what I consider a strong and well balanced side. They`ve some great young players and loads of experiences with the likes of Darren Dods, Mark Millar and the big striker Farid El Alagui. Last season we picked up the three points on both visits to Dumfries last season. Here’s hoping for a similar result come 4.45pm.

“...Duplication doesn’t even stop there though, there are even two programmes for fans to read. One official production sold at the ground on matchday and another different, online for website TV subscribers...”

As we stated when we launched this magazine, it is designed to provide some pre-match reading material for our loyal overseas supporters who tune into our live broadcasts. To ensure that we do not rival the programme we do not publish until 2pm every Saturday to ensure that it is only available for those tuning in to watch the match. The Enclosure has received great comments since we launched in October. We are disappointed with the comparisons between “calendar wars” and our publication in the Falkirk Herald. The official programme, at forty pages, offers a far wider range of features including multiple exclusive interviews, historic features and many, many more articles. We would recommend purchasing a programme to all supporters and reiterate that we are not here to compete with the programme and instead to offer a short pre-match briefing for our viewers.
