VIEW FROM THE DUGOUTS Alex Smith: “Tam Scobbie has been training this week and it looks like he will make it which would be great for everyone. “Ayr United have given us problems all season so we want to beat them and see if we can reach second place.” Ayr United Manager Brian Reid: “The first group have been out for a wee while now and the second are all carrying knocks that could see them out for a while if they are aggravated.

THE INTERVIEW

Russell Croal

lair Alston scored a massive goal at Firhill last Saturday, one which prevented the Bairns from slipping down to fifth in the table. We caught up with Blair after the game. “We started the game quite well and were disappointed with the goal we conceded. We never got back into the game in the first half after that goal. We changed the shape about a bit a half time and definitely played much better second half.” Alston’s goal came just to late to be considered for the Goal of the Season Award, but was a fine strike - created entirely by the Falkirk Academy. “It was good to get back on the score sheet, that’s two in two weeks now. “It just fell to me nicely today and I hit it well. It came across to me at a good height and I just tried to keep the ball down. I’m just happy it ended up in the back of the net. “It is shame we couldn’t get on and get the win after it but it is good to get a point here, and a couple of the other results went our way again. “We have been playing in a different formation for

the majority of the season, so I think it just took us a while to get used to it. “I think in the second half the boys dealt with it brilliantly and Partick Thistle didn’t cause us anywhere near the same number of problems.” Looking forward to the final day visit of Ayr United, can we expect another goal? “Hopefully so, I enjoy getting ahead of the game and trying to get goals. I think if I get a run of games, which I have been, I will hopefully be able to get a few more goals. It would be good to end the season with another. “Ayr have been a bit of a bogey team for us this year. We’ll approach the game like any other. It is the last game of the season, so we want to give the fans something to cheer about and finish the season off on a high. “Hopefully we will get a good result on Saturday.”

THE PREVIEW

THE CURTAIN COMES DOWN ON ANOTHER SEASON OF ACTION ON FALKIRK TV Falkirk v Ayr United: Match Preview

Craig Turnbull

@CTTurnbull

uperman had kryptonite. Falkirk have Ayr United. The Bairns have so far been unsuccessful in their attempt to take all three points off today's opponents this season. They were also the team that knocked Steven Pressley's men out of the Scottish Cup. Why is it then Falkirk have struggled against the Honest Men who are languishing in the relegation playoff position? On closer inspection the games themselves have been very tight and Falkirk players would have felt aggrieved, particularly at the 0-0 draw at the Falkirk Stadium, when they couldn't turn the bulk of possession into good goal scoring chances. They have the chance to redeem themselves this afternoon. However will these dropped points against Ayr comeback to haunt them. Falkirk have the slimmest of chances of sneaking into second in the table at the expense of Dundee if they produce a swing in goals comparable to the Labour landslide election victory in 1997. One can't help wondering how much an easier task it

would have been if they had taken more than the two points they have acquired against Brian Reid's men. But with Ayr having one eye on next week's playoff to ensure their First Division status next season, the Honest men are likely to rest a few key players this afternoon ahead of this match. The goal swing just might be possible. Falkirk will be missing full back Kieran Duffie and defender Rhys Bennett who suffered an injury during midweek training. David Weatherston and Stewart Murdoch are the noticeable absentees from midfield. Kris Faulds, who came on as a substitute last week, is likely to be his replacement. Prediction: Falkirk 3-0 Ayr United
