Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States. He served to terms from 1801 to 1809. Jefferson was the first President inaugurated in Washington, D.C. Jefferson called his election triumph "The second American Revolution." He was inaugurated on March 4, 1801 in the Senate wing of the unfinished capitol building in Washington. Jefferson played a major role in the planning, design, and construction of what is now the Capitol city. As Secretary of State, Jefferson was responsible for the design of the Federal City in Washington, D.C. He was known as the "Father of our National Architecture". He was also selected to plan the Virginia State Capitol. Aaron Burr served as Jefferson's vice President. Jefferson was Republic and he lead the republican party. Jefferson believed that the government should be less aristocratic. He didn't want us to be so high class.
