This is an urban design project, and i worked with a team to design this project during my graduate study at SCAD.

Concept Development

CONCEPT

Former Hunter Army Airfield

18

The idea is based on the principle of integrating MODULE OF HISTORIC PART of Savannah city with the MODULE OF MODERN PART of Savannah city, which is the region adjacent to the project. This led to the creation of the new MODULE OF FUTURE PART of the city. Taking into account the province on the nature of the vicinity of the project.

PROJECT STATEMENT

Dwellers of Hunter Army Airfield are projected to move away from their location in the city of Savannah. This big change in the area required major consideration for the City, such as redesigning the former airfield to make it more compatible and connected to the urban context. Urban design is both an art and science that brings others together in order to provide beautiful spaces for everyone in the city. A place without history and vision is certainly a place without identity. Reflecting on this as a motive for providing accessible and “open urban spaces, with quality of life and walkability at its core, is the premise of this urban design concept. Accessible distance is the name of the project. We wanted to create a site that will help connecting the east and the west side; the north and the south side of the project together. Also help connecting the neighborhood together by shortening the interior distances of the project.

MASTER PLAN

Former Hunter Army Airfield

Taking into account existing environmental conditions, such as wetlands and vegetation, as well as amenities such as the existing golf course, provided a base for this urban design proposal. By incorporating green space throughout the project in the form of parks and open space inspired by Forsyth Park, downtown Savannah’s treasured urban oasis. Bringing the rail lines into the site allows for both the site and its adjacent industrial context to form a unique and dynamic relationship. Creating a buffer zone around the project helps decrease the 20 noise coming from the main road surrounding it. We decided to expand the surrounding amenities, such as Savannah Tech, and use it to the best of the project. Mixing education with residential within the project is key to a lively community. The vision of a neighborhood with full services is central to the design of stronger community and sense of place as well as strengthening the connections between them. Providing a variety of paths to take you to the core of the site for the convenience of the users whether by foot, bicycle, or vehicle promotes both connectivity and accessibility. Hierarchy of roadway transportation as one moved further into the site helps to slow traffic and make for a safer environment.

the industrial zone is placed close to the railway, so the industries will get the benefits and also this provides jobs for people who live around this area.

The Buffer zone separates the industrial area from the residential one to reduce railway noise.

this entrance connects Heritage Market with King Abdul-Aziz Historical Center which is one of the most famous places in Saudi Arabia. there are many unique buildings and many tourists like to visit this place. therefore I created this entrace to encourage those tourists to visit the building, since Heritage Market and King Abdul-Aziz Historical Center have the same aim, which is to save Saudi Arabia’s history.

I was inspired in this building by a very old place in Riyadh, Qasr Almasmak. I used the same form but I made it more simple.

The Role of Education in Departments of Architecture in Saudi Universities in Graduating Architects Aware of the principles and Concepts of Sustainable Architecture: A case Study of Education in the Department of Architecture and Building Science at the College of Architecture and Planning, King Saud University

Abstract: Despite the growing number of architects graduating from the architecture departments in Saudi universities, many of their buildings carried out in Saudi Arabia do not apply the principles of sustainable architecture. In the light of this problem this research considers the course contents in the curricula of the Department of Architecture and Building Science at King Saud University, as well as three other universities: North Carolina State University, the University of Bath in Britain and Queensland University in Australia. The research considers to what extent the course contents incorporate the concepts, principles and applications of sustainable architecture, and compare that to the Standards for American Council for Green Building (LEED: leadership in Energy Efficient Developments). The aim of the comparison was (1): Defined ratios of courses with contents which include applications of sustainable architecture, as well as which principles of sustainable architecture are included or not included in the four programs. The comparison was on the bases of thirteen major applications of principles of sustainable architecture. (2): Define ratios of courses with contents which include the standards (LEED), and standards are included or not included in the four programs. Based on those comparisons the research conclude that the contents of courses on architectural design in King Saud university did not include most of the applications of sustainability, and is also lacking in respect as compared to the other three programs as well as to the U.S standards for green buildings.

Design an Education Game for Architects

60

09

Design an Education Game for Architects SCAD, Savannah, GA I attended a collaborative class between architectural students and interactive design students to design an education game for architects. My professors in this class were Gregory Hall, Carole Pacheco and Mattkew Dudzik. In this class I worked with interactive design students to design the environment for the game. Also I created three scenarios for the game; one of them was an individual project. I based my scenario on a project designed by Norman foster in Las Vegas. the project had a huge construction problem, I tried in my scenarios to solve this problem.
