Dear Friends,
This evening we celebrate the spirit of collaboration, cooperation, and true friendship that have characterized the best of the French-American relationship since its beginning, some 245 years ago.
The French-American Foundation relies on the contributions of many dedicated individuals, companies, and foundations. We would like especially to extend our gratitude to our honorees, Dina Powell McCormick, YL ’05, and Yves-André Istel for their extraordinary support of the evening and our mission; to our guest speakers Tory Burch and Raymond McGuire; to the members of the Gala and Corporate Committees, and to the many donors who make our work possible. More than anything, this evening is a celebration of all of you.
Tonight we also remember two men who did so much to make the Foundation what it is today: our co-founder James Lowenstein and our longtime Board member Michel David-Weill. Both men, in their respective fields of diplomacy and business, worked tirelessly to foster the French-American relationship and to create lasting links between our two countries. We also thank Gaëtan Bruel and Constance Jewett Ellis for delivering their reflections on these two leaders.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to our colleagues at the French-American Foundation – France, and especially to Alain Papiasse, Chairman of Corporate and Institutional Banking at BNP Paribas and Chairman of the Foundation, and Amina Sabeur, Managing Director. Our structure – sister organizations in New York and Paris that share a common name and mission but operate independently – makes it uniquely positioned to collaborate closely and address the interests of constituents on both sides of the Atlantic.
We are most grateful for your own commitment and for the opportunity to welcome you here tonight. Your presence is an affirmation of the continued vitality of the French-American relationship and of the values which both countries hold dear. We hope you will have a most enjoyable evening.
Allan M. Chapin Chairman
