ENGINEERING SYSTEMS AT THE RESORT Text: Viktor Verbovskiy, Director General, Intellectualnaya Arkhitektura LLC Engineering system automation: How to decrease energy consumption and recover 6% of construction cost Yes, this is not a typo; you really can recover over 6% of construction cost of the mountain ski resort if the buildings and constructions face requirements of high level energy efficiency. The clause 21, art. 381 of the Federal Law 132ФĐ— dated 7.06.2011 establishes reduced taxation scheme for objects of high energy efficiency class and commissioned not earlier that 2012 from January, 1st 2012. This real estate will not be liable for property tax within three years from registration. That is in 3 years you can save 6.6% of the facility construction cost (2.2% x 3 years). But how can you do it in practice? Do the LEDs solve all problems of energy efficiency? First, and sometimes the only thing to come to investor's or designer's mind, who shall solve the problem of energy consumption of lighting systems, - is to install LED lights. Yes, they have the advantage of old-type luminescent lamps, mercury arc lamps but the LEDs are not more efficient than state-of-the-art T5 series

luminescent lamps, sodium and metal halide tube light sources. However, LEDs still have large and undoubted advantage: they, as well as luminescent lamps, can be dimmed, i.e. the light flux, means energy consumption, can be adjusted. And you shall use the option. Illumination of Mountain Ski Piste If during construction or enhancement of pistes working at nights you install LED lighting with adjustable light flux (brightness) you will save energy by automatic decrease of light source power at the empty pistes. How you can detect presence of a person at the slope? For example, use motion sensor with 100 m range of coverage or video cameras installed at the slope. All state-of-the-art video registers and some models of video cameras have built-in motion sensors. This signal can be transmitted to the automation system to define scenario of lighting operation at night: if skiers are present lighting works with full capacity; no skiers - at the level of 15% of nominal. As soon as the sensor detect a person on the slope the lighting power increases smoothly. This mode allows reducing energy consumption by 4 times.
