Dear Families, Welcome to our 2023 Summer Enrichment Camp!

During this 6-week program held from June 12 through July 21, our campers will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of activities in a safe and caring environment. In the process, not only will then learn from their instructors and from their peers, but they will also learn about themselves as well as build friendship with young people from various parts of the world.

Whether you are new to our program or a returning family, we are confident that you will find in the pages below the activities that are a perfect match for your children’s areas of interest.

Summer Enrichment Camp

GENERAL INFORMATION

The DIS Summer Enrichment Camp is a 6-week program open to all and designed to provide campers with the opportunity to explore a wide range of activities in a safe and caring environment.

All activities are led by experienced adults who are either DIS faculty/staff or vendors. All adults have to go through a background check process before being allowed to be present on campus.

Our program welcomes campers on two different campuses.

Churchill Campus

Our Churchill campus is located at 6039 Churchill Way. It welcomes campers ages 3 to 10.

Registration

In order to register their child, parents have to create an account in Sawyer, our online registration platform. This account will allow families to check their child’s registration information.

There is a $35 non-refundable registration fee per family.

Registration remains open throughout the duration of our program. However, the deadline to register for a specific week is the Friday before, at 10:00pm.

Changes and Cancellations

All cancellation and change requests must be submitted in writing to camps@dallasinternationalschool.org.

Families who would like to add a camp after the initial enrolment can do so via their Sawyer account or by emailing us at camps@dallasinternationalschool.org

Refund Policy

From time to time, Dallas International School may cancel an activity due to low enrolment. When this happens, parents will receive a full refund for the payment they made toward that activity.

For cancellations made by families, refunds will be granted if the cancellation is made before or on May 28. All cancellation and change requests must be submitted in writing to camps@dallasinternationalschool.org.

ARTISTES EN HERBE

Artistes en Herbe (budding artists) is an arts and crafts workshop entirely conducted in French. This will enable your little ones to keep working on their language skills while engaging in definitely fun and creative artistic experiences. This workshop is more appropriate for children who already speak some French.

KOLORAMA

Kolorama is an art camp specially designed for our youngest students. Using washable paint, crayons, glue and imagination, our young artist will create unique works that they will take home.

MESSY HANDS

This art workshop - conducted in English - will allow our young artists to explore colors, shapes, textures and much more while honing their fine motor skills and developing their sense of creativity. Lots of fun in store!

In these half-day camps taught by native speakers, the children learn the language while they engage in a variety of activities such as art, body motion or traditional games. BON APPETIT 1

Learn to cook French meals and desserts! In this class, campers will dive into a fun and interactive cooking experience. They will learn about fresh food and cooking techniques. Each day, we will discover a different menu and prepare dishes from scratch. Our young chefs will then take home a delicious treat to share with family.

Our recipes are developed using common cooking and baking ingredients. Some may not be specified in the menu titles. If you have a food allergy, please check with us before booking the class. Adjustments to recipes cannot be made.

CHESS TIME 1

Cost: $275

From basic moves to complex tactics and strategies, there will be plenty to learn in this exciting chess camp. While learning tactics and strategies, our campers will develop skills such as critical thinking and concentration and enhance their mental discipline. Each session will include outside of the box puzzles proven to be excellent in developing children’s minds. All levels are welcome.

EIS / ENGLISH FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Combining formal instruction and fun activities, this intensive ESL program will enable our international students to improve their conversational skills as well as their mastery of the written language. Students can enroll in a half-day or full day program. They can also combine this workshop with other fun camps. Cost: $255

HAPPY FEET

In this energetic half-day camp, we will use a combination of musical games and motor skills activities to help our young dancers develop coordination, rhythm and have fun! Cost: $245

KALEIDOSCOPE

This is a half-day workshop in which our campers will explore various techniques and the fascinating world of colors. They will use their creative minds to produce little masterpieces.

MUSICAL EARS

This camp is designed to build both linguistic and musical skills. Campers will learn the fundamentals of music notation and how to sing easy children's songs. Students will also enjoy a creative movement segment and daily composer spotlight. All materials are included in the camp fee.

MUSIC UNDER THE SEA

Dive into this fun-filled musical experience! In this “Under the Sea” themed camp, students will enjoy learning and singing new songs, dancing like crabs and sea horses, and will gain lots of musical knowledge along the way. This class will cultivate your child’s imagination and creativity and encourage a lasting love of music.

OMNISPORTS 1

Cost: $245

In this energetic half-day camp, our young athletes will be able to engage in sports such as basketball, volleyball, wall climbing and soccer. This is a good opportunity for boys and girls to try something new or to take their skills to the next level in the sports they already practice. Sportsmanship, teamwork and self-confidence are some of the skills our campers will acquire while playing games in a positive and fun learning environment.

SILLY SYMPHONY

Students will be introduced to the instruments of the orchestra through games, and instruction. Activities will include an instrument-building workshop and an instrument petting zoo. Cost: $275

SUMMER EN CANTO

Singing, dancing, playing games and cooking will be some of the activities that our campers will engage in during this half-day camp conducted in Spanish. This will be a great opportunity to develop language skills while having fun. Cost: $245

SUPERHERO AND PRINCESS CAMP

Find yourself through Disney characters and the Marvel and DC legends! Learn Disney songs, play princess and superhero games! Through fun crafts, creative movement, imaginative games, and etiquette, learn to talk, sing, and dance like a true superhero and princess. Students will create props and perform songs and routines with classmates at the end of the week. Cost: $275

TENNIS CAMP

In this half-day camp, our campers start the day with warm-up exercises followed by age and level-appropriate training: eye-hand coordination, balance, footwork, grip, and strokes. In the process, they will become familiar with the game’s vocabulary. While rackets are provided, it is recommended for campers to bring their own. Cost: $275

WATER YOU WAITING FOR

This summer, combine your child's love of water with water experiments! All of our young learners will be highly engaged and given the opportunity to explore the properties of water. From melting ice science to glow-in-the- dark bath bombs, we will explore different areas every week and make new experiments. Water You Waiting For?

WIKRI 8

WIKRI 8 or (We Create) is a half-day workshop designed to boost our young campers’ creative minds. Using various types of recycled material, they will create unique objects. Cost: $255

FROM DISNEY TO BROADWAY

See your child take the big stage this summer! In this camp, students explore what it takes to be a Broadway star. By the end of our time together, your child will grow in knowledge and confidence that will be showcased in a fabulous final performance!

FUTURE STAR JAM LAB

Jump into the rich and rewarding world of improvisation, jazz and blues! In this collaborative and fun camp, students will foster their creativity and learn to express themselves through music. By learning about current and historical musicians, playing improvisation games, and building a working knowledge of music theory and techniques, this camp will take your child to a new level of musical development. By the end of the week, students will be able to improvise on “C Jam Blues” as well as other popular melodies. All instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome. One year or equivalent prior experience on their instruments is recommended. Cost: $275

GAMES GALORE

Our campers will learn how to play a variety of games - and create their own. This is a great opportunity for the children to enrich their vocabulary while having fun. Activities are conducted in English. Cost: $245

This camp is all about exploring the world of music. We will learn about:

GET MOVING

While on this journey to discover their inner performer, the children will build confidence and learn choreography and music analysis. Several dance styles will be explored.

HARRY POTTER MUSICAL

In this Harry Potter themed musical theater class, students will enjoy learning songs and choreography based on the popular series. Students will develop their musical theater skills and knowledge, and build confidence with a supportive group of peers who share an interest in all things magical. The class will prepare a performance showing off what they have learned at the end of the week!

JEUX A GOGO

Our campers will learn how to play a variety of games - and create their own. This is a great opportunity for the children to enrich their vocabulary while having fun. Activities are conducted in French.

KNIT AND STITCH

Whether you are new to knitting and stitching or already have some skills, this half-day camp will give you the opportunity to learn various techniques and unleash your creativity. In the process, you will also develop new vocabulary. We will work on small projects that you can take home with you. All supplies will be provided.

MAGIC FINGERS

In this fun and creative class, your child will develop fine motor skills while beading to create some artistic jewelry, and learning some basic crochet and knitting skills. Once they have acquired these skills, they will keep them for life!

MATH MADE EASY

Tricks & tips for mastering math facts through Interactive games. This camp will offer fun jumping games, HUGE dice, rap and snap songs and other manipulative activities to help first and second graders master math facts without tears. Cost: $255

MYSTERY SOLVERS

If your child wants to be a whiz at solving challenging mysteries, then MYSTERY SOLVERS is the place to be. Students will have to solve a mystery based on a series of clues. Besides enriching their vocabulary, MYSTERY SOLVERS will help students develop their sense of observation and problem solving while having fun. Cost: $245

NASA SPACE EXPLORATION - INTRODUCTORY

Blast-off on knowledge of flight! This camp is an exciting study on rockets. Campers build their own rockets and planes, experiment with propulsion systems, launch and recover rockets! Each day campers create amazing things to take home. Cost: $275

SOUNDS OF LEADERSHIP

Develop your child’s leadership skills through presenting, singing and playing music. Kids build confidence in themselves during our “Learn & Lead” program. Our experience-driven method literally transforms shy kids into confident kids as they perform on stage in a warm and encouraging environment. Cost: $275

FARANDOLE (2-year olds)

The program is specially designed for our youngest students currently enrolled in TPS. This full-day camp will allow them to keep up with the routines learned this past year and be better prepared for the next level. The day will be filled with exciting activities aiming at developing language acquisition, social skills, motor skills and self-confidence Cost: $385 (full day)

GET READY FOR GS (PreK 4)

This is a full-day camp specifically designed to ensure our MS (PreK4) students keep working on their French over the summer. The program will combine language-learning activities with games, songs and crafts. Cost: $385 (full day)

CP PREP (Kindergarten)

The CP Prep. Camp is a full-day program offered to our students who have freshly graduated from GS and getting ready to enter first grade (Cours Préparatoire) at DIS in the fall. These can be children currently enrolled in GS or students newly enrolled for CP. The main purpose of this program is to ensure that the children who will attend CP in the fall are as much prepared as possible for their new class environment (work methods, pace of instruction, etc.). Cost: $385 (full day)

AGES 3 - 4

THE COLOR WHEEL

A fun and relaxing one-hour art workshop where our young campers will play with colors using various media. They will use their imagination to explore and create. In the process, they will develop their self-esteem.

Cost: $75 (1 hour a day)

AGES 5 - 6

ORIGAMI STUDIO

Origami is a Japanese word that means paper folding - ori-, meaning "folded”, and kamii, meaning "paper”. There's nothing quite like the joy you get from transforming a plain square piece of paper into a container, animal, bird, flower, or many other interesting shapes. It always seems to a put smile on our faces when we complete an origami! Origami is fun, easy, inexpensive and great for sharing with others. The class will involve students in learning how to fold figures, shapes, and designs of all sorts.

Cost: $75 (1 hour a day)

AGES 7 - 10

PIANO PRIVATE LESSONS

These one-on-one piano lessons taught by experienced music teachers are scheduled twice a week in 30-minute slots. The first slot is from 3:30 to 4:00 and the last from 5:30 to 6:00 pm. These lessons are for campers 5 years old and older.

Cost: $90 (2 lessons per week)

GUITAR PRIVATE LESSONS

These one-on-one piano lessons taught by experienced music teachers are scheduled twice a week in 30-minute slots. The first slot is from 3:30 to 4:00 and the last from 5:30 to 6:00 pm. These lessons are for campers 5 years old and older.

Cost: $90 (2 lessons per week)

CHESS MATES

No need to be an experienced player to join this team. The daily one-hour session will be an opportunity to either learn the basics of the game or take your skills to the next level, all the while having fun.

ART STUDIO

This workshop will make you love art. Throughout the camp, you will explore different mediums and techniques, including -but not limited to- plaster bandage, Styrofoam, drawing, and painting, while creating sculptures. You will also learn about artists who relate to these mediums, reflect on your own art and the artwork of others. The camp will culminate in a group exhibition. Cost: $275

BE A CHEF

In this hands-on half-day cooking camp, you will dive into a fun and interactive cooking experience. You will learn about fresh food, cooking techniques and seasoning. You will learn to create a menu and prepare desserts and dishes... and you will get to taste what you prepare! Cost: $275

CLAY DAZE

Whether you are a complete beginner or have had previous experience in pottery, you will love the atmosphere of the Clay Daze studio. You will learn to different techniques, get to use a potter's wheel and live the magic of transforming clay into a beautiful art object. Cost: $275

CODING BOOT CAMP

Step into the exciting world of robotics! Future roboticists start with programming basics in a fun and interactive game that introduces coding and programming logic. Campers learn sequencing, directionality, and problem solving with a Bluetooth enabled bee-bot that children will program from a tablet. Through experiments with animated robots, real programming logic is brought to life and children become robot artists! Students need to bring their own tablets or laptops. Cost: $275

In this intermediate level class, the students will work on reinforcing the skills they have already acquired by engaging in interactive activities with classmates and playing language games. LEGO BRIXOLOGY ENGINEERS

Build a different LEGO project, inspired by an engineering theme, in each class. Explore engineering fields including mechanical, structural, aerospace, nautical, and bioengineering. Use critical thinking, cooperation, and creative problem solving to test and improve creations. Experience extended learning with a take home toy to reinforce each concept. Cost: $275

MATH STARS

This half-day camp for 6th and 7th graders will incorporate real-world examples to help students be ready for Pre-Algebra by sharpening crucial concepts explored in previous math courses. It will also include fun math games. At the end of the week, students will be equipped with the confidence and skills they need to be at their best in future math classes. Cost: $275

MIX MASTERS

If you are passionate about sound engineering and studio recording, this workshop is for you! We will start with the basics of audio production and learn to use Ableton Live 11 Digital Audio Workstation. We will then start creating our own audio productions using various instruments. At the end of this workshop, you will have learnt to record, edit, mix and put together your own audio creation.

MOVIE MAKERS

Would you like to learn how to make a great video? Let this fun and interactive workshop help you! We will start with the basics of camera work and then delve into the more complex aspects of lighting, sound and editing.

NO BAKE DELIGHTS

Cost: $255

No need for an oven in this hands-on half-day baking camp! We will learn to make delicious desserts without ever having to turn on the oven. Not only will you learn how to make those desserts but you will also get to write the recipes and take them home so that your family can enjoy your newly acquired skills. All ingredients are provided.

SCULPTURE LAB

Cost: $275

This camp is for those who love art. Throughout the camp, different mediums and techniques will be explored, including but not limited to Styrofoam, plaster bandage, drawing and painting, while creating sculptures. STAGE MIGHT 1

Acting can be an immensely fulfilling experience with great potential for individual growth. Each camp will embrace every student’s natural strengths and provide a confidence-boosting, supportive environment in which individual creativity can flourish.

We will start with theatre games and simple improvisations for everyone. Then progress through the basics of theatre including stagecraft, movement, breathing and voice projection towards short funfilled scenes with other actors and simple monologues.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN BROADWAY CLASS

In this The Greatest Showman themed musical theater camp, students will enjoy learning songs and choreography from the movie, such as A Million Dreams, The Greatest Show, and more! Students will develop their voice and musical theater skills, and build confidence with a supportive group of peers. MIX MASTERS

If you are passionate about sound engineering and studio recording, this workshop is for you! We will start with the basics of audio production and learn to use Ableton Live 11 Digital Audio Workstation. We will then start creating our own audio productions using various instruments. STAGE MIGHT 2

Acting can be an immensely fulfilling experience with great potential for individual growth. Each camp will embrace every student’s natural strengths and provide a confidence-boosting, supportive environment in which individual creativity can flourish. We will start with theatre games and simple improvisations for everyone. Then progress through the basics of theatre including stagecraft, movement, breathing and voice projection towards short funfilled scenes with other actors and simple monologues.

My children do not attend Dallas International School (DIS). Can they still attend your summer program? Certainly, the Summer Enrichment Camp is open to everyone. However, we do have a few camps reserved for DIS students because they focus on academic skills in French.

What is the enrollment deadline?

There is no deadline as such. Generally speaking, applications are accepted until the camps are full. However, we must receive your application at least 48 hours before the scheduled start of the camp you would like your child to attend.

What is the minimum number of weeks I can sign up my child for?

You may enroll your child for as many weeks as you wish. However, we do recommend a minimum of 3 weeks if you choose a language camp.

Do the three weeks have to be consecutive?

No. they do not have to. However, we think it is in the best interest of the children if they are.

If I sign up my child for a full day in, say French, will the afternoon session be a repeat of the morning one? Our language camps are designed to allow students to explore new material each time. Therefore, the material covered in the afternoon is different from what is covered in the morning. In the same way, the topics covered every week are different. This allows new students to join at any time while those who started attending from the beginning continue to progress in their learning.

Who are your instructors?

Our instructors are experienced professionals who can be either DIS employees, teachers form other schools or independent providers. We conduct background checks on all camp staff and faculty.

I would like to register my children for an after camp activity that takes place from 4:00 to 5:00pm every day. Do I also have to pay for after camp care?

No. The children enrolled in an after Camp Activity program do not have to pay for after camp care until the activity is over (5pm in this example).

Are lunch and snacks provided?

Lunch is provided at no additional cost for all campers enrolled for the whole day. Snacks are not provided. Make sure to pack one for your child.

What is the dress code?

It is important that our campers wear comfortable clothes that are appropriate for the activity in which they are enrolled. Inappropriate logos are not permitted.
