Fall Fun On The Grand Lawn! Saturday afternoon Congress Hall hosted their Inagural Fall Festival on the Grand Lawn. Attendees spent the afternoon consuming their fall favorites from beer cheese pretzels to candy apples, playing carnival games and riding on the Spook Express. After the sun went down, families curled up on the lawn to roast s’mores and watch the Halloween classic film, Hocus Pocus. The next opportunity for a little Halloween fun? A West Cape May Christmas Parade fundraiser happening at Exit Zero Filling Station on October 28. Three courses and spooky live music for $20. Book your table at 609770-8479!

SOME INTERESTING CAPE MAY TRIVIA AND FUN FACTS

Weird Sea Creature

Did You Know?

Mantis shrimp aren’t really shrimp. They’re stomatopods, crustaceans closely related to crabs. They come in a variety of species — 550 that we know of — and one type, the peacock mantis, has better vision than any species, including us. While we have three light-sensitive cells in our eyes for picking up reds, greens and blues, this guy can see the whole color spectrum. They’re also excellent fistfighters — the two front appendages can club prey with a force of 160 pounds.

Alongside Kennebunkport, Maine, and Durango, Colorado, Cape May has been named among the country’s 25 most festive towns by CarRentals.com. “Resting at the southern tip of the great state of New Jersey,” the site wrote, “Cape May is a perfect place to spend the holidays if you want a little beach mixed in. Stroll through the impressive Candy Cane Lane light displays at Congress Hall and take a Christmas Candlelight House Tour. The tours are self-guided walking tours through historic homes, inns, hotels, and churches all done up with proper holiday decorations.” Well said!

Here’s what the EZ team had for breakfast this week

E

very week, the Exit Zero crew goes for lunch (or dinner or, maybe even on occasion, breakfast) at one of Cape May’s excellent dining establishments. Then we give you the skinny on what we ate, what we talked about (or some of what we talked about), who spat their drink from laughing too hard, who served us, who we bumped into and, you know, the general vibe. The place: Beach Plum Farm in West Cape May. The history: Launched in 2007 as a way to provide local, clean produce for all Cape Resorts restaurants on the island (Ebbitt Room, Rusty Nail, Blue Pig, Boiler Room), Beach Plum Farm started as a modest operation with a first harvest of only tomatoes, squash and cucumbers. Now, it produces more than 100 crops. And the concept of the farm has expanded, too. Since the space opened in 2009 it’s become a community hub, a public park, and a serene place for connecting over farm-fresh food and drink. The seats: The farm is home to an Amish-built, post-and-beam barn made from Pennsylvania hemlock, pine and cypress. Its rustic charm makes this an ideal spot for the farm’s Market and Kitchen, where we placed our order. But we dined outside, on a picnic table overlooking bountiful flower beds beside a crackling fire pit. The occasion: A two-year-old’s birthday party. This is a great venue for something like that, because there’s lots of room to run around and be free. And the kids had fun, too. (Badum-ching!) The eggs: They just taste better when they’re coming from stress-free chickens. And the chickens of Beach Plum Far ARE stress-free — when they’re cozied up in their clean, airy coop, farm workers are sure to knock before entering, to keep from startling the animals. We enjoyed these eggs fried on fluffy brioche sandwiches, poached on top of a quinoa breakfast bowl, and as part of a delicious vegetable quiche. We added plenty sides of bacon, coming from the farm’s own antibiotic-free pigs, naturally. The drinks: The farm is BYO, so we brought our own champagne for mimosas. But we also enjoyed the farm’s iced tea, made with home-grown lemon verbena. The hot tip: Be sure to check out the woodland marsh trail that wraps around the duck ponds. It takes you past sweetgum trees with vibrant, heart-shaped leaves — Native Americans in the area once used the amber-colored sap of this species as medicine.

I

Terry O’Brien’s legendary column... social satire, shameless plugs — and general self-indulgence

took terrible notes for the column this week because my bosses are find upstanding folk with only my best interests at heart, which is why they allow me to work seven days a week, and I love work, work is good, work is cleansing and provides means to the state and increases production. (Apologies for plagiarizing the NBA’s mission statement.) Regardless, this week will be sort of a free-flowing exercise in stream-of-consciousness and space-filling. So, you know, the usual. Big Deal of the Week: The Terry O’Brien Band will be reuniting for ONE FINAL gig this year, this Saturday at Carney’s, 9-1, for the big Halloween costume blow-out. (Is it me, or am I using a lot of hyphens this week? Anyway…) In case you ignored every column I wrote this year before this one, the Terry O’Brien Band is an amalgamation of my Beatles and Billy Joel tribute bands, with some Bruce Springsteen and Prince thrown-in (see?) for good measure. Our summer Sunday residency ended in August and we’re champing at the bit to get back on

stage to play this great music for you. Also, COSTUME CONTEST! Funniest, most creative, sexiest (I’ve got that one on lock) best couple and the like, with cash for winners. I’ll be going as “guy who wanted a comfortable, low-maintenance costume I could wear on stage and perform in without too much difficulty.” In other words, a blue Star Trek uniform shirt and black pants. Form AND function. Speaking of which (you have to admit, love or hate my column, my segue game is strong), I’ve been rewatching classic Star Trek

and I gotta say, the perception of CaptainKirk as this reckless, damn-the-torpedoes, swashbuckling pirate and William Shatner as a hammy actor are both deeply unfounded. Kirk is as thoughtful as Picard, and Shatner plays the role exactly as required. Thank you for coming to my TED talk. I like Jake Johnson, I adore Cobie Smulders, but I hate Stumptown. I believe I’ve remarked before that Chicago Fire is the most low-stakes medical thriller, possibly in the history of television, that I can’t stop watching. So how do you make it even lower-stakes? Create a threepart (HYPHENS!) crossover with the equally bland and pointless Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. It’s like eating cookie dough; sure, you’re eating, but what’s the point? The thing on my chin has a thing on its chin. Finally had a chance to visit J’s Bakery (Breakwater Plaza, N. Cape May) on Sunday morning. (Yes. I was awake. In the morning. On Sunday.) I had a very yummy lemon danish and, a little later, a just-as (!) deli-

cious ham and cheese croissant. The La Colombe coffee was hot and fresh, and I wish them well. Too many mom-and-pop joints succumb to the super store so please support these guys when you can. My only suggestion? The CLOSED sign is green, the OPEN sign is red. This causes me great confusion. It was a great deal of fun running my Exit Zero delivery route in the 90mph winds that followed the rain last Wednesday night. Seriously. I got about 300% more carry on my long tosses. I once again dialed into 101.5 WCFA-LP and was rewarded with the great “Weekend Song” by Billy Joel, a song last played on the radio probably some time in 1974. Also, huge props to Ray Crew for playing “Yellow and Rose,” an amazing James Taylor song from his Hourglass album that I stole from Jay Bethel in 1997 and have yet to return. Speaking of 101.5 (Bazinga!), was great to see Sandy and Joanne McCullough out for dinner at EZFS on Saturday. Sandy raved about the Thai Shrimp and Coconut soup, perhaps the best thing on the menu. I asked, “Was that all you had?” He answered, “No, I had a burger, too. I didn’t want Joanne to think something was wrong with me.” Classic Sandy. Catch he and Rick Ferrante’s spirited chat and music show every sixth hour on WCFA-LP. In deference to the man-eating spiders that patrol Cape Island Home & Garden after dark, I have not stopped delivering Exit Zero magazine to Cape Island Home & Garden and have started delivering in the vicinity of Cape Island Home & Garden. Not long after my umpteenth encounter with the Arachnid Demons at CIH&G (it really is a lovely place, just don’t venture in there after sundown), I was making my way through my Villas stops… sorry, my The Villas stops. It was a lovely night, so I’d opened the moon roof on my Highlander (have I mentioned I own a Highlander?)

October 24, 2019 to enjoy the air, which I’d completely forgotten as I pulled in to OceanFirst Bank, a leaf fell on me, and I was certain it was one of those bird-eating African spiders the size of manhole covers. I then died. Hello from Heaven. Then, a little while later, about 3am, I was on the home stretch in N. Cape May, dropping of fat stacks at North Beach Gym, when I had a protracted staredown with a skunk, which I won after expelling my noxious fumes. The hard part of taking notes while I’m on my delivery route is steering with my knees as I tap on my phone. I’m so pleased that, now that all 900 hours of America’s Got Talent has concluded, my wife can now watch all 1,200 hours of Dancing With the Stars. Joker is a good movie. Joaquin Phoenix is transcendent but, much like Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody, he can’t quite elevate the rest of it from pretty good to great. He will probably win Best Actor, and for all those that sniff at “comic book movies”, he’d be the second Joker to take home an Oscar. More than any Mozarts or Einsteins. My wife Cathrine, whom everybody loves, flooded the Exit Zero Filling Station bathroom a few weeks ago. It was hilarious. I had no idea Erik Simonsen was Evil Incarnate until I saw that political ad. Good to know. By the way, all that ad did was make me want to vote for him twice. But keep it up with the politics of personal destruction. Worked well for you in 2016. Lastly this week, call up and make a reservation for THIS MONDAY the 28th to attend our Spooktacular (sorry…) fundraiser to benefit the W. Cape May Christmas Parade. Clothing optional. I mean, costume optional. The food and beverage are going to be top notch and Tim and I will be playing all your favorite Halloween-themed rock songs! All four of them. A good time for a great event. ’Til next week, don’t get caught in The Undertow.

The Old Fogey

W

Ah, those good old Cape May days... by Jackson D’Catur

e have come up with a solution to the lack of affordable homes with a beach view. I am not referring to the previous plan, where we picked a street a few blocks back from the ocean and, through judicial use of explosives and landscaping, made a new inlet. No, this time, we have used that legendary Cape May cunning, and found what those rodents in human form who go by the genus “lawyer” have called a “loophole”. It seems that precedent has give us a sound legal basis for constructing as many as 300 new homes along the edge of the sand, for reasons involving “future security”. And since the structure we are using as the model has been there for many decades, it will serve as the template for the new houses. Yes, we refer to the “bunker”, that wonderful concrete fortification you all know and love, whose “Keep Off” signs have been the inspiration for thousands of photographs of people not keeping off, and whose interior contains Captain Kidd’s Lost Treasure (which by definition is not lost as such, but is not

accessible by anyone other than me, or the other members of the Cape May Illuminati). Who would have guessed that its presence has become key to a housing boom? Of course, there are some caveats, namely that all of the new structures have to be architecturally “in keeping” with that fortress, from construction materials to purpose. So if you are happy to live in a home with six-foot-thick cements walls and firing slits for windows, where your door is steel and opens only from the inside, this development may be for you.

The smallest units – the “pillboxes” – will be cozy 700-square-foot one-bedrooms with charming circular layouts. From there, most every combination will be made, all the way up to the “Doomsday Bunker”, a 7,000-square-foot behemoth designed to withstand a direct hit from a North Korean missile, or a wave of zombies/Wildwooders. This will discomfit those people who own homes with an existing sea view. Rest easy, I say, and worry not. First off, the bunkers will be no more than the height of the existing structure. Secondly, they will come with mortars and light machine guns, so it’s probably best that you quit your griping in short order. We have already had a surge of interest from a cabal of shadowy billionaires, who say they are seeking a refuge for when civilization falls, as the result of their poor stewardship of the country and world. To them, we have said they should simply show up when the sky is falling, and knock on the doors of whichever bunkers have opted not to have the neon “No One Percenters or Lawyers” signs fitted, and ask to be let in.

ear that? It sounds like a couple of quiet days in your schedule. Use them to relax and prepare yourself for a busy holiday season. We’re coming to that lovely time of tradition and togetherness, and frankly, some of us would rather not. It’s not that you don’t love the group you gather with; it’s just that you need a moment or two to prepare yourself. Maybe you aren’t ready for the role you’ve played for 30 years — he’s the tough one, she’s funny; he doesn’t mind talking to the unpopular party guest; she doesn’t mind doing the dishes. You either play your assigned part or find the strength to challenge it, and it takes a lot of energy to make people see that the peacemaker is battle weary, or that the helper needs a little help. With luck, there are babies or dogs, who are free of preconceptions. Best to arm yourself, in advance, with some relaxation — take a fall break. De-stress with dinner out — heck, have breakfast and lunch out, too. Take a walk on the nighttime beach. With the end of day-

Inside City Hall

D

The happenings and intrigue on Cape May City Council, by Susan Tischler

are we say? Compromise? In a — wait for it — 5-0 vote, city council adopted a resolution outlining a list of simple protocols for the Conduct of Advisory Committee Meetings, which are not bound by the same rules as boards and commissions. Councilmember Zack Mullock introduced a similar resolution at the September 17 meeting which met a 3-2 defeat primarily because of the inclusion of the Open Public Meetings adherence clause. Or because they like that 3-2 thing they got goin’. So, does this compromise mean council FINALLY has had a Kumbaya Epiphany? Ah, no. In a 3-2 vote council approved introduction of a $1.9 million bond ordinance for the city’s share of reconstruction of the Franklin Street School to convert it into a library. The county and the county library commission will kick in the remaining $4 million equally. The two dissenters? Councilmembers Mullock and Stacy Sheehan. Mullock’s objections were threefold: the only discussion he had heard regarding the project was at a Town Hall Meeting in May; the failure of the city to come up with a

capital expenditure budget in which all the projects are detailed; and finally, “It upsets me that our firefighters are in temporary bunking, yet we are voting to spend money on a new library. We’ve been discussing a new fire station for years.” Sheehan discovered that an environmental study had been conducted on the Franklin Street School by going through the payment of bills. When she asked City Manager Neil Young about the outcome of the study, the city manager said, “The study was good.” Sheehan said the study “was never sent to me.” She, however, obtained a copy; had already read

it, and challenged the city manager on how “good” it was in regard to the lead count. After January 1, 2020, she said the acceptable lead count will be 10 micrograms. The study, she said, showed the current count to be 1,600 micrograms. She asked if this remediation would add to the cost. Young said the study was pre-construction. She also was skeptical that the costs would come in at more than $2 million. And so, she voted no. Deputy Mayor Tricia Hendricks said the grant monies allow the city to restore an historic building which has been languishing and give it a new purpose. During the public comment section of the meeting, a visibly disheartened CMPD Chief Tony Marino said, “I question the motivation of doing a library before a public safety building.” Referring to councilmembers Mullock and Sheehan’s objections to combining the CMPD and CM Fire Departments into one building, he said, “I’m hoping you can find common ground on this.” What next? Final reading and a public hearing on the ordinance will take place

CROSSWORD SOLUTION

Monday, November 18. For a bond ordinance to pass, four votes are required. At some point the three are going to have to find, as Chief Morino said, “common ground”. A resolution to advertise for bids for reconstruction of the War Memorial Park at Columbia and Gurney streets passed 3-2. Mullock and Sheehan objected to the lack of specifications. Or as Mullock said, “I don’t question the merits of the project, but I can’t vote on it not knowing what’s to be included in the bid.” The two were informed by the deputy mayor and the very testy city solicitor that the resolution is simply a vote authorizing the city manager to advertise the bids when the specs are ready. Sheehan said that last time she voted without the specs it was for the jitney project. She said she later came to find out that the specs restricted the bid to only non-profits. “I don’t think I would have voted for that,” she said. Fun Fact: Atlantic City Jitney Association was the sole bidder, primarily because of the nonprofit restriction. Also: Work on the park is being subsidized by grants from Department of Transportation and the Open Spaces program and from the Fund for Cape May. We visualized it like this: The project goes out to bid and then council finds out after the fact that the specs call for a ginormous bust of former Mayor Ed Mahaney. Or as City Manager Young put it, “If you want to see the specs, you vote no. If you want to allow management to make that decision, you vote yes.” Council passed a resolution to raise the price of beach tags and create a new tag for those in the hospitality biz. Seasonal beach tags will still be $20 if purchased before December 31, 2019, $25 before April 1, 2020 and $30 (an increase of $2) after April 1. Weekly tags go from $18 to $20. Three-day tags will now be $15 (up from $12) and daily tags remain at $6. A new $50 seasonal pass will allegedly eliminate hotels, whole house rentals

October 24, 2019 and B&Bs from buying a finite number of beach tags and giving them to guests as part of the amenities which cheats the city out of revenue. Tags are technically nontransferable (even though everybody does it) BUT accommodations folk are known to do it on a large scale. Now they will pay $50 per seasonal beach tag, allowing the city to recoup some of the lost revenue. Bonus: hotels and B&Bs can design their own beach tag with their brand with the city’s final seal of approval. Try as they might, the visuals cued up to underscore the Parking Advisory Committee’s recommendation to curb the traffic bottleneck on Jackson was thwarted by a runaway mouse. The committee wants to eliminate eight parking spaces on Jackson from the Virginia Hotel down to Hot Dog Tommy’s and make them loading zones. They also want all delivery and repair vehicles as well as valet parking and hotel guests from the Virginia and the Carroll Villa to park in those zones, which will have a 20-minute unloading limit. Currently, everyone parks willy-nilly on both sides of the street, creating a traffic impasse. Council heard first reading on an ordinance to ban single-use plastic carryout bags, plastic straws and Styrofoam cups and containers. Final reading and a public hearing on the ordinance will be held November 18. The ordinance goes into effect six months after passage. Those hit hardest are restaurateurs. Bob Matthews of the Dry Dock eaterie asked that council consider a more gradual change in plastic/Styrofoam use. He used the example that he currently serves ice cream in three different-sized cups which use the same lid and cost one penny. The conversion will mean three different lids and cost him 10 cents a cup. Those serving on the Environmental Commission and ecology experts maintain that the changes often result in a supply and demand effect, bringing the cost of environmentally safe products down.

The Movie Column

Arts columnist Tom Sims reviews “Gemini Man”

T

his movie gives “seeing double” new meaning. Gemini Man stars two Will Smiths. There is the actual Smith, who is going strong at 51. Then there is the second star of the film, Smith in his 20s (thanks to mind-boggling computer generated imagery or CGI). The plot is innovative enough. The elder (should I say “older”) Smith is an expert assassin for the federal government. His precision has always been 100%, but the intel on his latest hit has been anything but. A friend tells Smith how his last target, who he killed from two miles away (while the poor sucker was on a high speed train no less!) was not who the government said he was. Smith was obviously upset. Trying to retire, he soon learns that the government wants to silence him the only way they know how — yeah, by killing him. But Smith is the only assassin good enough to take himself down. We get our first glimpse of his hitman, and he looks familiar... because he is. The young killer is essentially the Fresh Prince of Bel Air — yes, exactly

as you remember him. The special effects are both bold and understated. This is how effects are supposed to work — they should amaze but never give themselves away. As my good cinematographer friend, Jimmy, used to say, “Once you feel the special effects, you lose all the emotion.” Some cliches can always be duplicated. A retired hitman targeted because he knows too much. A target that escapes a thousand bullets and kills three attackers with one shot. All pretty cliché, but here the prem-

ise may save the day. It’s innovative to have essentially the hitman’s clone be the enemy. Is it enough to carry the movie? I’m voting yes, but critics and audiences don’t all agree. The fantasy element of this film provided for some quotable quotes. The young Smith yells out to the old Smith (paraphrasing), “I’ll never be like you!” At this point, I turned to my wife in the theater and said, “...said every teenager to a parent ever.” This film had the potential for a greater number of deeper moments – depth that could’ve helped you feel the emotion. In the end, it was a really good shoot-em-up. Thumbs up for good entertainment — kudos to Will Smith (both of them). T

he Answer Lady invites inquiries from gentle readers on all manner of relationship quandaries, matters of the heart and ethics. If you’d like to send a query, write to info@exitzero. us. Or, simply sit back, enjoy a cup of coffee and contemplate the wisdom herein. Dear Answer Lady I often text my sister-in-law dirty jokes. We’re mates. We’ve always joked around. Well, my wife figured out what my password is and read through my text messages and made a big deal about the whole thing, even going so far as to say there was something more to it than just an exchange of jokes. I accused her nosing through my private stuff. “You’re my wife, not the FBI,” I told her. We haven’t spoken for a week. She also had a donnybrook about it with her sister in the front yard with all the neighbors listening. Bottom line? She had no right to break into my phone. We both thought you might have a solution to this stand-off. – Walking Wounded Dear Walking The Answer Lady wonders why your wife felt compelled to “break into” your cell phone

Wise answers to perplexing questions

in the first place. She must have suspected something untoward was happening. Take a step back and look at the intimacy of your actions which neither of you shared with your wife. She feels betrayed and your deflecting about her “nosing through your private stuff” doesn’t scan. It is the fact that you didn’t share the “joke” with her — that you left her out — that is at the heart of this. She is hurt and a romantic date night is the only solution. Dinner at Tisha’s. After-dinner cocktails at The Brown Room and leave your cell phone at home

Dear Answer Lady When my mother-in-law separated from her husband, we were happy. He’s a bully and not good to be around an infant and a toddler, constantly yelling at them. The tension in the house was so uncomfortable that we started making excuses to avoid visiting. Once he left, it was a complete turnaround and we were there often and were not paranoid that one of the kids might spill a glass of milk. Now, he’s back and it’s just as bad as it was before. My mother-in-law keeps asking my husband why we don’t visit more often. My husband won’t tell her the truth. Should I? – Worried Parents Dear Worried Yes, tell her because she already knows. If she wants to see her family more, she must get the courage to face him. Maybe he can go fishing or hunting or visiting when you are there. Or, have her visit you. Alone. It is your job as parents to protect your children from mean-spirited people. As much as you can. Treat her to bunch at the Mad Batter and then a trip to Cold Spring Village would be the perfect excuse to get her to come without the husband.

Bird Droppings

T

Dispatches from the nation’s birdwatching capital… by Seymore Thanu

he Columbus Day Meadows walk is typically well attended. Especially when winds are blowing northwest. This one was classic. Eight leaders, 46 participants, the pre-walk melee in the South Cape May parking lot tempered by the absence of migrating raptors. We did not find a single migrating falcon of any species. Sparrows were the first order of business. Swamp (the dark one), Savannah (the trim, gentrified one), and Song (the disheveled one with the blotch on the breast). Sparrows are a challenging group, but at least they stay put. We arrived at rail corner in good time and lingered because one participant thought they saw a snipe in the reeds. Thus we were still in position when a Sora stepped into plain view and binocular enhancement disclosed a Virginia Rail skulking behind, probably the first time in birding history that these two marsh birds have stood in the same field of view. The Sora was particularly obliging, standing in plain sight before a sea of enthused admirers, many of whom had never

seen a Sora before. The most often-heard expression was “Wow.” But the sound of held breaths dominated. Finally tiring of the game, the bird retreated behind a curtain of cattail and we moved on to the dune crossover to discover the trail under a foot of seawater, courtesy of storm-driven tides. We retreated to the landside trail and dispensed with our half-hour beach segment, By this time, multiple raptors were in the air as the cries of indignant Greater Yel-

lowlegs attested. We searched in vain for the reported American Golden Plover until a passerby allowed that the tundra breeder had jumped to the inner pool side. Pintails, mallards and American Black Ducks rounded out the roster and I’m willing to bet the Black Ducks were “Life Birds,” for west coast birders. We left with the plover still showing nicely and returned to the parking lot in time for visitors to poll leaders about best next places to go. In October, in Cape May, with northwest winds, this means the hawk watch platform at Cape May Point. All in all a splendid morning, a three rail walk insofar as the gallinule is also a rail. Even the Russian judge would have given the outing a score of 10. The absence of falcons? They’re afternoon birds, and anyone heading on to the hawk watch was certain to catch an eyeful. The American Bittern that stepped out of the reeds around 3pm was an unexpected bonus but it is precisely the unexpected that makes Cape May irresistible to birders from here and abroad.

Three beautiful dogs from the Cape May County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center... call 465-8923

HOLLYWOOD (WOODY) arrived at the shelter as a stray and originally was anxious around new people. He is learning to accept human companionship and loves to learn new things. He is making great progress in illustrating good manners. He would be successful in an active home, one that would channel his energy and continue his training.

MACK came to the shelter as a stray and is estimated at about 18 months old. Mack is friendly with staff and volunteers and craves human attention and interaction. He likes running in the exercise yard and enjoys walks. Mack is a good candidate for adoption with an active family with older kids or in an adult household. Adopt today!

Robert Panaccio, VMD Robert Moffatt, VMD Nancy Reilly, VMD Patricia J. Link, DVM

TURBO is the perfect name for this small dynamo. He loves to run around the yard chasing toys, birds, insects, or whatever attracts his attention. Turbo always returns to his human for approval of his endeavors and then quickly runs off for another adventure. Turbo has an abundance of love to give to someone who understands his quirky personality.

Enrich Your Life... Adopt An Animal

Three beautiful cats from the Cape May County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center... call 465-8923

DUSTY was born in beautiful Victorian Cape May. He was a happy kitten, he was loved, played, hunted like any other kitten. He played by the beach, rolled in the sand. Dusty was special, his caregiver knew he could never part with him. 15 years forward, Dusty’s caregiver passes away, leaving Dusty scared, confused and homeless. Adopt!

BIANCA is a Siamese and snowshoe mix. She’s also a senior princess who will likely have many eager suitors stopping by the shelter. Her vaccinations are up to date, she’s house-trained like a boss, and now all she needs is a good home with a deserving guardian. Think you’re cool enough to care for this hip cat?

ROCK got his name because he’s a tough guy on the outside with a heart of gold on the inside! If you come meet him, Rock will be sure to steal all of your attention. He likes being pet and brushed, but he also loves playtime! Don’t worry about his eye, Rock got hurt a long time ago when he was living on the streets but it’s not a worry anymore! (FIV+)
