MUSIC TECHNOLOGY COURSES & WORKSHOPS AT SOUND GALLERY STUDIOS Sound Gallery Studios provide a range of music technology courses, work experience programmes and professional development, aimed at providing participants with the skills needed to create their own music and gain experience in a professional recording studio. We have carefully designed courses and workshops which go beyond the nuts and bolts of software education and aim to inspire you to create, record and produce your own music. Our courses are run by experienced and qualified tutors, sound engineers and producers. Whether you are a beginner or have advanced knowledge of music production our courses will help you take your music to the next level. We also run masterclasses during the year in association with the Analogue to Digital Expo and our educational partners: Time + Space, 2twenty2 Agency, Ableton, Integrity Records and Super Audio Mastering. All courses take place at Sound Gallery Studios and Exeter Phoenix Digital.

Creative Music Technology - Beginners (3-5 participants) Sat 10am - 1pm, 6 weeks (18 hours), £225/200 concession, 26 April - 31 May, Media Centre computer suite This course will equip you with the skills required to create and produce professionally sounding music at home using current music technology. This course introduces the use of computer software (Garage Band, Logic Pro, Reason etc) to write, record and produce music and also provides participants with the necessary information and guidance to put together their own home studio set-up. 

Creative Music Technology - Advanced (3-5 participants) Sat 10am - 1pm, 5 weeks (15 hours), £225 (£200 concession), 7 Jun - 12 Jul Media Centre computer suite Improve your music creation, mixing and production skills using today’s most popular music production tools including Logic Pro and Pro Tools. Gain an insight into the recording and production techniques used in a professional recording studio including mic placement, sampling, EQ, dynamics and more! This course is designed to build upon these skills and techniques learnt in the beginner’s course, but is also suitable for people who already have a fundamental knowledge of creating music.

PARTNERS Electronic Music Production - Introduction (3-5 participants) Wed 6 - 8pm, 4 weeks (8 hours), ÂŁ150 per person, 23 Apr - 25 Jun, Media Centre computer suite Learn how to create contemporary electronic and dance music using modern Digital Audio Workstations, including Logic Pro, Pro-Tools, Reason and Ableton Live. Learn the process of Electronic Music Production, including programming loops and beats, sound design, and mixing and mastering, to create your own tracks. This course is suitable for beginners, but even if you have experience creating music for sometime you can benefit from this courseand improve and develop your electronic music production skills further.

Digital Music Production - Introduction (3-5 participants) Mon 6 - 8pm, 4 weeks (8 hours), ÂŁ150 per person, 2 Jun - 30 Jun, Media Centre computer suite This course is an introduction into building, composing and producing electronic music in the context of contemporary and modern genres, including Dubstep, Drum and Bass, Hip-Hop and Electronic Dance Music. Learn about the musical elements involved in building and structuring music within a modern DAW, such as Logic Pro. Participants will create, build and produce a song in 10 hours in a 9 logical step-by-step process.


Recording Studio Experience (2-5 participants) Dates arranged as required, Option 1: 1 day (8 hrs): £260 for 1-1 sessions, Option 2: £150 per person for groups of 2-5 participants. Explore all aspects of recording and mixing in a professional recording studio and learn about mic placement and multi-tracking using Logic and Pro Tools, utilising high-end outboard and software plug-ins with the help of an experienced sound engineer. Individual 1 - 1 Tuition Cost: £35 per hr, Sound Gallery also offer 1-1 tuition on Electronic Music Production, Logic, ProTools, Reason, Ableton live, that can be arranged as required to suit individual needs. Sound Gallery Studios Facilities Sound Gallery Studios is a professional, purpose built, acoustically treated and fully airconditioned recording studio situated in the basement complex at Exeter Phoenix in the cultural heart of Exeter in Devon. The studio complex is well equipped with a range of classic analogue mics, pristine valve pre-amps and both soft and analogue synths (including the legendary Neumann U47, Prism Sound Maselec MMA-4XR, 1� tape machine, Juno 6 etc) alongside the best in digital effects processors, soft synths and plug-ins.We offer a wide range of integrated recording solutions, based around an Apple Mac Pro, Pro Tools and Logic Pro system with clean and high end AD/DA conversion and clocking from the SSL (Solid State Logic) Alphalink and Prism Sound Orpheus.

Membership Scheme An annual membership fee of ÂŁ75 allows access to the Sound Gallery computers in the Digital on Mondays and Fridays. This membership provides an opportunity forparticipants to spend time working on their skills and techniques they have learnt from the courses. Participants who have enrolled on one of our courses are entitled to FREE membership (Term time only, 2 hours per week, Mondays or Fridays).

The abstract art course is the only course in the UK dedicated to the practice of abstraction. Taught by the painter, Patrick Jones, the emphasis is on being able to express yourself in paint.

This class is great whether you are brand new to pole dance or super advanced. These classes are slightly smaller than the leveled classes to ensure you get enough of the instructor’s time. Mixed ability is great if you can’t make your normal level class or if you have a membership and want to go to lots of classes.
