Value The concept of a vacation club was first introduced in 1998 as an alternative to fractionals, luxury hotels, second home ownership, and traditional villa rentals. Vacation club membership operates similarly to an exclusive country club. For a one-time initiation fee, members gain access to a private portfolio of luxury homes—owned or operated by the club through long-term lease agreements. Many offer different membership products, pricing options, destinations, styles of residences and service levels.

How We Compare Exclusive Resorts is a Members-only, private vacation club. Only Club Members have access to our Portfolio of 400+ luxury residences and experiences. And, as Club residences are not subject to peak season pricing, each Member vacation is predictably priced. With the Club, Members choose between a short- or long-term Membership, which includes their first year of travel (up to 20 Plan Days). For every year following, Members select the number of days to suit their family’s needs—15 to 30 Plan Days per year—paying a set rate per Plan Day. The Club gives Members the flexibility to travel where and when they want with the comfort of certainty that each vacation will consistently exceed their every expectation, unlike competing residential travel options.

exclusive resorts vs. fractionals Fractionals, (a.k.a. private residence club or timeshare) affiliated with luxury hotel brands or independently managed, allow owners to buy between 1/12 to 1/4 of a share of one property—often two- to three-bedroom condominiums paired with hotel-style services and access. The owner may then use that property during select timeframes for a set number of days each year, typically between 4-12 weeks. Occasionally, owners trade weeks for use in other destinations through the management company or independent exchanges, and in most cases, have to pay a portion of the annual management fees and maintenance (relative to the percent of ownership). Exclusive Resorts offers Members full access to its extensive Portfolio of residences, any time of year. No trading required. Our predictable pricing model also ensures no-surprises vacationing for one all-inclusive price whenever they choose to travel.

exclusive resorts vs. villa rentals In this structure, sharing economy platforms—like Homeaway®, Vrbo®, and Airbnb®— provide vacation rentals around the world, from cabins and condos to villas and urban apartments. Homeowners pay a subscription fee to list their accommodation on the company’s site and appear in search results. However, what you see isn’t always what you get. The platforms often don't vet each property for size, quality, or resort access, and cannot guarantee the quality of service as local hosts differ in their understanding of upscale hospitality. Pricing for traditional villa rentals is also variable and can spike depending on seasonality and demand. In most cases, security deposits, variable cleaning costs, and any additional amenity fees come as a surprise, along with a pricy villa fee for luxury accommodations. The Club’s global Portfolio of residences and Experiences are vetted for quality from location to interior detail, all managed by the Exclusive Resorts team or in partnership with equally vetted accommodations providers. Our service is consistent across the Portfolio, with Exclusive Resorts on-site Concierges in every destination to make each stay incredible. As always, our predictable pricing is not season-dependent and ensures our Members know what’s on the bottom line well before their departure date.

exclusive resorts vs. hotels and resorts Luxury hotel rooms offer convenience with expansive layouts, concierge service, possible resort access, and prime locations for easy transport to popular sites and sightseeing. This convenience comes at a price, with peak season hotel rates from $3,000 to $10,000 per night. And, without shared communal areas, larger families and traveling couples are relegated to the lobby for everyone to spend time together. Exclusive Resorts Club Members use vacations as a time to be with their loved ones, made easy with spacious communal areas in multi-bed and bathroom residences that are either right in the city center or mere minutes outside of it. Our relationship-based service model ensures that you are treated as more than a guest, but as a member of the Exclusive Resorts family. We really love the Experience Collection. We spent a long weekend on Fogo Island in Newfoundland through the Club. Fogo Island isn’t a place I ever would’ve dreamed of going on my own. It was very difficult to get to and very remote, but it was fantastic and Exclusive Resorts took care of all of the logistics. And if our Ambassador hadn’t suggested it, we never would’ve thought about visiting. We’re willing to take more risks because we know we can trust the Club to always deliver a fantastic trip.

How has the Club evolved with your family? wg:

In the beginning, our kids were in grade school so we went to the residences, mostly ski and warm weather destinations. Now, my wife and I take a lot more experiential trips and our boys have started to use the residences. I think the next stage is for us to have grandchildren.

Tell us about one of your most memorable Club vacations. cg:

My husband and I have lived and traveled all over the world. The trip we took to Burgundy blew everything else we’ve ever done out of the water. It was just amazing. The trip was intimate, the boat was beautiful, and we enjoyed great food and wine as we traveled the scenic countryside.

This person is unique and integral to the Exclusive Resorts experience—part consultant, caretaker, and coach. Their role goes beyond travel planning, they anticipate the needs of their Members—and their family, friends, and colleagues—and create vacations that are as effortless as they are incredible. The Club currently employs more than 50 Vacation Ambassadors from its headquarters in Denver, Colorado—20% of whom have worked at Exclusive Resorts since its inception in 2002. After completing more than 200 hours of training on the Portfolio and Membership specifics, each Vacation Ambassador is given no more than 85 Member families. We intentionally maintain this ratio to ensure they have the time to personally connect with each Member while being easily accessible, available for calls, texts, emails, and in-person meetings. As your family continues to grow and evolve—from young children to multi-generational travelers—so does the Ambassador/Member relationship. Our Member Profiles allow each Ambassador to keep track of your favorite meals, preferred timing for housekeeping services, hobbies, birthdays, anniversaries, and how you take your coffee. What is the Platinum Rule? The Platinum Rule is a principle that builds off of the Golden Rule, which states we should treat others how you want to be treated. The Platinum Rule takes this to the next level by challenging our team to treat others the way they want to be treated. Another differentiator is that our relationships are truly personal. I can’t think of another company whose Concierges or service providers get invited to join their customers’ vacations. Our relationships with our Members grant us insight into their preferences and experiences, allowing our unified team to make every vacation seamless and incredible every time. This begins on day one. We first welcome a new Member with an orientation call, not from a random representative but the family’s dedicated Ambassador. Our Ambassadors invest themselves in their Members’ vacationing experience from the moment they join on every vacation. Our Ambassadors will tell you absolutely everything about the Club and what we offer, but it’s foundational to us knowing who you are and how you vacation, which helps us improve the way you spend your limited time off. From there, the Ambassador will book your first vacation and then work with the destination on-site Concierge to ensure your stay is personal to you. Once Members arrive at their destination, the on-site Concierge activates those key preferences to provide a heightened experience, perfecting every detail. This happens for every vacation, each one better than the last, for a lifetime of truly incredible travel.

How do you get to know your Members so well? The platinum level of service begins on day one. When a new Member joins the Club, we welcome them on a detailed orientation call with their dedicated Vacation Ambassador, who they will be working with throughout their Membership. The Vacation Ambassador gets to know who you are and how you vacation so we can personalize and cater every trip to your individual preferences. They will tell you everything you need to know about Exclusive and get your first set of trips booked. From there, your Vacation Ambassador will work with your dedicated onsite Concierge to ensure your stay is personalized to your travel preferences. When you arrive at your destination, your on-site Concierge activates those key preferences to provide a heightened experience, perfecting every detail. This happens on every vacation. The more we get to know you, the better each vacation becomes, creating a lifetime of truly incredible travel.

Numerous members of the service team—Ambassadors and on-site Concierges—have been with the Club for many years. Why is that length of tenure so valuable? While many hospitality workers constantly move within the industry, our average tenure is five to seven years. The level of institutional knowledge is inherently invaluable, but the length of time with the Club is especially important for our on-site teams. When a Concierge is there to greet you year after year, there is a familiarity no one else can provide. Each Club vacation begins to feel like a return home—I know of one Member family who will be visiting Hawaii’s Kohala Coast for the 32nd time!

How do you think Exclusive Resorts helps families spend time together? In many ways, starting with our Membership model. Schedules are demanding, and often times we lose sight of taking time out for ourselves and our families because other things get in the way. Having a year of vacations completely planned out months in advance by your Vacation Ambassador and on-site Concierge allows you to take this time without sacrificing other commitments. Our Portfolio of residences and experiences also creates the perfect setting for rich, authentic, and lasting connections with places and each other. Our residences vary in size to accommodate traveling couples or multi-generational families and help loved ones spend more time together under a single roof—as opposed to the common areas of a hotel. What makes Exclusive even more special are the connections and friendship Members have formed with each other over the years. We often see Club families traveling together to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays, and meet up on our Once-in-a-Lifetime Journeys. I think this speaks volumes about the level of connection the Club offers and how special it really is.

To end, can you give us a favorite example of the elevated experience you’ve been describing? One of our Members was traveling to Tuscany, where he'd studied abroad more than 35 years ago. In hopes of reconnecting with his host family whom he’d lost contact with, he asked our onsite Concierge, Chiara, if she could help find them. Though not a typical request, Chiara singlehandedly tracked down his host family and helped facilitate their reunion—all because she knew how much it would mean to our Member. This is the level of service and connection we strive for every day. This is elevating beyond extraordinary.

the residence collection Exclusive Resorts began in 2002 as a carefully vetted Portfolio of 30 privately managed residences in ten destinations. From 2004 to 2009, the Club developed over $500 million in real estate, opening multiple residences within private, gated communities and award-winning resorts, and continues to expand the Portfolio as Membership grows. Averaging 3,500 square feet, the Club’s residences are in the world’s best locations and feature upscale amenities like chef-grade kitchens, private infinity-edge pools, expansive common rooms, and outdoor gathering spaces. The planning stages of a trip can be so overwhelming. We’ve rented homes before and it’s a lot of work finding a place and then still not exactly knowing what you’re going to get. Exclusive Resorts takes care of the little things so vacation can start as soon as you arrive. The groceries and all of the snacks the kids like are already stocked. your journey to membership Each year, we invite approximately 100 new Members to join the Club. This model of sustainable growth creates an intimate travel experience and maintains the quality of our residences, the integrity of our teams, and the nature of our Membership. Once you’ve submitted your Membership Application, are approved, and have accepted your invitation to the Club, you will move forward with payment and then onto planning your next vacation. Membership is available in both 10- and 30-year terms. Upon joining, you'll pay a one-time Initiation Fee and select the number of days you want to travel with the Club your first year. Every year, your Annual Dues reflect the number of days (15-30 Plan Days) you choose to travel in the upcoming year. Members pay per Plan Day, which may be used anywhere and at any time in our Portfolio. We also offer customizable Memberships allowing you to travel more than 30 days per year, ensuring your time vacationing with the Club is best suited for your needs.
