Letter from the Editor
T
he first time I visited Charleston, South Carolina, I was buzzing with anticipation. As a Georgia native, I considered it the romantic gem of the South; mysterious even, with lavish plantations, haunted mansions, and cobblestone streets. I imagined it a window to the past—an American city with a serious sense of place. I quickly discovered it was indeed a special part of the world. Every aspect of Charleston is seductive, from the city’s storied buildings and low country cuisine to its genteel Southern accents and swaying seagrass. But it was when I visited Kiawah Island that I really fell for the area. With 10 miles of beaches, 30 miles of biking and walking trails, and incredible wildlife, it’s easy to understand why it has been a Member favorite for 15 years and counting. In this issue, we’ll take you on a food-filled tour of Charleston, with Exclusive Resorts’ Kiawah Island residences as your posh, yet decidedly laidback headquarters.
