AutoCAD Civil 3D. Create a Customer Label for Vertical Curves During the vertical design of a road, parabolic curves are necessary to make a smooth transition between two different grades. They are designed to satisfy criteria of safety, comfort, drainage and appearance and can be defined by their length and a parameter (K) that determines their curvature. When we create a profile in AutoCAD Civil 3D, some labels are available for vertical curves as part of the default template styles. We are going to use one of them and customise it to convey all the information which is relevant to define a vertical curve.  In the Toolspace palette, go to the Settings tab and expand Profile > Label Styles -> Curve. Create a copy of the Crest & Sag label style by right clicking on it and selecting Copy‌ as shown below.

ï‚· The Label Style Composer window will pop up. In the Information tab, we can modify the Name, Description and Created by fields.

 Go to the Layout tab and under Component name select Curve data. This is the only component that we will change from the initial style.

 Click on the value field of the Contents property and then on the … button that will appear next to it:

 In the Text Component Editor, clear the contents of the text box on the right and type the name of the properties and the units as you want them to show in the label:

 Now, for the three properties selected, we need to follow the same process. Select the Property and Modifiers on the left hand size, place the cursor on the right where you want to insert the value of the property and finally click on the arrow that points right next to the Properties dropdown menu. What can then be seen is the end result with the values that have been selected for each property.

Note that the Precision modifier has been altered to adjust the number of decimal places.

 Click OK a couple of times to save your changes. Your new style will be available in the Toolspace palette on the Settings tab.

 As a final step, we are going to use this custom label in an existing profile. In order to do that, select one of the profile labels and then click on Edit Label Group on the contextual tab of the ribbon.

 Use the dropdown menus to select your custom style for both crest and sag curves and use the add or remove (red cross) buttons to include the labels that you want. We have also modified the Dim anchor val column to 20mm. That controls the vertical distance between the profile and the text.

 After applying those changes, the image below shows how the labels will look in the profile view.
