EFFECTIVE LARGE GROUP COACHING WITH MIKE BARRELL Wednesday April 25, 2012 All Seasons Tennis Club, Acton, MA

All Seasons Tennis Club is pleased to offer two unique training sessions with evolve9’s Mike Barrell. Mike is the Founder and CEO of evolve9 (focused on the huge differences in children as they grow and develop and how we need to evolve our coaching practice to meet their needs). Mike has over 25 years of tennis coaching, educating, and training experience, with more than 15 years focusing on juniors under the age of 10. Mike has presented at numerous national and international conferences, authored magazine articles, and manuals. Mike was the author of the ITF Tennis10s manual and has been a major contributor to Under 10 programs worldwide. 8:30 am – 12:30 pm: The morning’s Teaching Under 5s – Tennis Whiz workshop covers over 30 drills and activities designed specifically for this age group. As coaches look to younger and younger age groups to teach and parents look for opportunities to get their children into sport at a very young age we present this course and complete program for teaching the Under 5s including:    

Understanding the cognitive and physical abilities in young children Developing fundamental motor skills Structuring lessons and programs Communication and organization with young players

1:00 pm – 5:00 pm: The afternoon’s Effective Large Group Coaching session will address the demands of teaching in schools and other large group settings. Most coaching education does not focus on this skill set and this workshop will provide the skills and understanding required to manage and teach large groups effectively. Session includes:          Cost:

Managing large groups through division Communication and effective demonstrations Managing equipment and safety Organization and rotations Using tasks, goals and peer coaching Teaching strategies including circuits and stations Playing quickly, using appropriate competitions Understanding DESCA Key principles and tactical skills will be demonstrated on-court via core drills and required practices.

$65 for full day or $45 for an individual session
