$22.99 Instead of searching in Argentina for your next bottle of Malbec, pick up one from Cahors! Cahors in the South of France is known for producing great wine from this black grape. In this bottle you’ll find rich black currant and blackberry fruit with lots of tannin structure and a touch of minerality.

$3.49 Authentic kolsch beer from Cologne, Germany is surprisingly uncommon in our market. Kolsch as a style is interesting as it bridges the gap between the ‘Lager’ and ‘Ale’ beer families. The beer is made with top-fermenting (ale) yeast rather than bottom-fermenting (lager) yeast. However, the beer is stored cold after fermentation as part of a method known as ‘lagering’, a practice that isn’t typically employed with ales. The result is a beer that is soft, lightly flavoured and easy to drink.

$148.99 Bira! is an independent rum bottling company based out of Vancouver with one goal, to bottle exotic and high quality rums from around the globe. The South Pacific 12 Year Old is the first release from Bira! and is a blend of 9 casks all aged for a minimum of 12 years in Fiji. Only water has been added to bring it down to 55%, making it heavy, rich, and medicinal. Notes of menthol, dark chocolate, coffee, anise, and smoke can all be found in this 12 year old Fijian rum.

Produced at El Llano Distillery in the town of Tequila, Arette Tequila is part of the largest family-owned and operated tequila company in Mexico. The Orendian family have been making tequila for over 100 years, and Arette showcases the cumulative experience of five generations of tequila producers. Arette Anejo is aged for one year in ex-bourbon barrel and boasts flavours of oak, vanilla, caramel, allspice, nutmeg,

and cooked agave. Enjoy this tequila after dinner in a snifter, like a fine cognac or whisky.

I believe that these are meant to be enjoyed on their own, chilled as a sweet dessert drink. However, when I first tried this I immediately started thinking of their potential as a cocktail ingredient. The strawberry flavoured Nigori has an authentic fruit flavour and the chocolate Nigori is rich and modestly sweet. It’s probably beside the point, but I think the packaging is beautiful as well!

Score Hunters For those of us who use points to guide our purchases, from everyday drinking wines to special cellar selections, there is a wine here for everyone’s budget!

$29.99 ARGENTINA 92 Pts - Wine Advocate

The Owl & The Dust Devil is a tribute to the owls that keep watch of the vineyards of Agrelo, Argentina. When the winds come through the vineyard, they create swirls of “dust devils” which send the owls nearby to chase them away, as their job of protecting the precious vines is important to them. Little do they know that those same dust devils create airflow to defend the vines from spring frosts and keep the grapes dry and cool during the summer. This red wine is a single vineyard blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Tannat and Cabernet Franc. All these grapes bring their own personality and flavour profile to the blend with great structure and smooth tannins provided by the Petit Verdot and Tannat, rich black fruit character from the Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, and the charm, character and plushness of the Cabernet Franc. Drink now.

$35.99 AUSTRALIA 92 Pts - Wine Advocate

Clare Valley, one of the best regions in Australia for Riesling, is home to the Adelina winery. The main difference between most German and Clare Valley Reisling is the level of sweetness, you’ll find the best examples of Clare Valley Riesling to be bone dry, high in acid, and capable of long term cellaring. Expect notes of green apple, lime, chalk dust and hints of florality. This wine is stunning and drinks well above its price point. Drink now or hold for 8-10 years.

$155.99 ITALY 96 Pts - Decanter 96 Pts - Wine Enthusiast The historic Padelletti family is one of the first producers of Brunello, with history dating back to the foundation of the appellation in 1571. It is said the town of Montalcino was built around the Padelletti cellar, which is still located below the center of the town. Crafted from 40-50 year old vines, this classic, fragrant Brunello boasts aromas of new leather, pipe tobacco, fragrant purple flower and balsamic notes of eucalyptus. It’s elegant and savoury, doling out juicy wild cherry, raspberry preserve, cinnamon and star anise set against firm polished tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced and ensures good aging potential. All you Brunello lovers take note of this one! Drink now or hold for 10-12 years.

The globalization of wine has given consumers and collectors more choice than ever before. With ever increasing access to small production, often obscure wines and varietals, it’s easy to overlook the charm and consistency of the Noble Grapes. Well-made expressions of these classic varietals will always be in fashion with winemakers and consumers alike.

False Bay Crystalline Chardonnay  $17.99 The Crystalline Chardonnay is unoaked and reflects the noble white grape in its purest form. It is sustainably farmed, hand-picked and naturally crafted from grapes grown in False Bay’s Stellenbosch and Wellington coastal vineyards. The simple recipe remains the same: fantastic coastal fruit, wild yeast ferments, and low intervention winemaking. A solid Chardonnay at a great price.

Love Oregon Pinot Noir Rosé $31.99 The R Stuart winery is in the heart of Oregon wine country, largely regarded as “the Beaune of the New World”. Their ‘Love’ wines are an homage to pioneers who planted the first Pinot Noir vines in the Willamette Valley. The wine is a bright, clear pink with aromas of wild strawberries, pink grapefruit and strawberry-rhubarb crisp. The palate is perfectly balanced offering strawberry, citrus, lime leaf, and bright cherry fruit for a long, lingering finish.

Umamu Cabernet Sauvignon  $57.99 Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world’s most recognizable and best-loved varieties. In 1978, the Umamu family planted their first Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Margaret River after discovering the climate was very similar to Bordeaux. The wine is deep garnet and offers aromas of tobacco leaf, plum and mulberry. The palate displays juicy ripe red plums and dark chocolate with silky, subtle tannins and a robust finish. A perfect pairing with any grilled red meat.

Spirits Corner

beyond bourbon The American Whiskey landscape is largely dominated by Kentucky bourbon. In 2020, between the 18 distilleries on the Kentucky bourbon trail, over 2.1 million new American oak barrels were filled with new make spirit. Despite the overwhelming popularity of bourbon, over 130 distillers throughout the United States are choosing to branch out from the highly regulated business of bourbon and explore the wide open world of American Whiskey.

New York Distilling Ragtime Rye $54.99 Recommended Cocktail: Sazerac

In Brooklyn New York, New York Distilling Company have embraced America’s pre-prohibition spirit of choice: rye whiskey. New York Distilling’s Ragtime Rye has earned the designation of Empire Rye. This new standard of identity is given to rye whiskies that follow a strict set of regulations which showcase the quality of New York state grown rye. Along with 27 other distilleries, New York Distilling has championed this new category of American Whiskey. Ragtime Rye is packed full of flavours such as Szechuan peppercorn, dried apricots, and dates, with a hint of caramel to round out the taste.

Boulder Spirits Peated American Single Malt $89.99 Recommended Cocktail: rob roy

Three thousand kilometers to the west, Boulder Spirits in Boulder, Colorado takes inspiration from the Scots. These American single malt whiskies begin with 100% malted barley imported from the UK. After being distilled in a 1000 gallon copper pot still their whiskies are aged in No.3 charred new American oak barrels at a mile high elevation. Boulder Spirits lineup of American single malts include an unpeated, peated, and port cask finished whiskey. The combination of 100% malted barley and new charred American oak gives these whiskies a fruity, nutty, and slightly sweet characteristic.

Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey $62.99 Recommended Cocktail: mint julep

Back in Kentucky, Heaven Hills Distillery (known for bourbons such as Elijah Craig, and Evan Williams) have turned the tables on the traditional bourbon mash bill of 51% + corn and opted to make a wheat whiskey. Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey is made from 51% wheat with the remaining mash-bill made up of corn and malted barley. Bottled in batches of no more than 100 barrels, Bernheim gets its sweet flavour profile of buttered pancakes, cinnamon buns, and salted popcorn from the high percentage of wheat.

Oktoberfest At Home Every fall, we turn our attention to Oktoberfest in Munich. And while the beer gardens may be closed, we can still raise a stein to our favourite frothy ales. Everything Wine and More will have plenty of classic Bavarian ‘marzen’ and local craft ‘helles lager’ in store to stock your celebrations. However you choose to celebrate Oktoberfest we wish you good cheer and a fun time. Prost!

Paulaner ‘Oktoberfest’ One of only six breweries that is served at Oktoberfest in Munich. Paulaner Oktoberfest is bright, crisp, grassy and slightly sweet. This iconic brewery is available in our store year round; but this specific beer is a limited seasonal offering and only available in the months surrounding Oktoberfest.

Les Trois Mousquetaires ‘Maibock’ Maibock is similar to marzen, the traditional Oktoberfest beer but typically higher in alcohol, lighter in colour and slightly drier in style. Even if this beer isn’t a classic Oktoberfest offering, it is the Oktoberfest beer of choice for Everything Wine and More’s beer buyer (and ezine contributor) Chris Guntrip.

Ale Architect ‘Lil’ Crispy’ This Edmonton based operation seems to draw some inspiration from classic Oktoberfest breweries such as Hacker-Pschorr with this handsomely balanced Helles Lager. Though somewhat lower in alcohol than typical ‘Festbier’, this beer falls square in the range of what’s expected from Oktoberfest beer in terms of flavour and sweetness.

We hope you had a great summer! Visit us in-store or online for great food and wine pairings, seasonal beer offerings and exciting new spirits to keep you warm this fall.
