Partners Philippine Community Fund Everything is Possible and Festival Green have partnered up with PCF (Philippine Community Fund) to get as many people as possible involved in a 'pulling crusade' this summer. By collecting the ring pulls from empty drinks cans and then converting them into stylish products the PCF generate revenue for their education, health, nutrition and social intervention programmes around Manila. PCF estimate that each ring pull ends up with a worth of approximately 10p to them, so every single one counts.
Volunteering as a Green Messenger is hard work but a lot of fun, and the work you do really does make a huge difference. As a Green Messenger your involvement will help to drastically reduce the amount of stuff that gets thrown in landfill or sent to an incinerator, by: Making sure that people put their recyclables in the recycling bins and their food and takeaway food packaging in the compost bins. Encouraging people to take their stuff home with them and salvaging reusable camping gear for good causes.
• Promoting recycling campaigns and initiatives, handing out bags for recycling to the campers and helping people pack up and take their stuff with them when they leave. • Informing people what bin to put their rubbish in, ensuring that materials going to the recycling centre are not contaminated with other types of material. • Collecting food waste and biodegradable packaging from the Arena, armed with a litter picking stick and a handy hoop. • Litter picking drinks cans, bottles and other recyclables in the arena and campgrounds. • Promoting can recycling initiatives, from engaging the audience in activities to exchanging bags of cans for beer tokens or competition prizes. • Collecting ring pulls from cans. We work with the Philippine Community Fund who make amazing stuff and with the money they make build and run schools ‐ each ring pull is worth 5p ‐ 10p to them ‐ so get pulling! • Working at the recycling centre, preparing recyclables for flattening or baling. • Salvaging camping gear left by festival goers. This is either collected at donation points or salvaged from the field, it is then sorted and prepared for redistribution to local charities and community organisations.
