Brand Marketing That Connects Do: Stay consistent to your brand imagery and message. Don’t: Be boring about it. Expand your visual style guide to include graphics that are interesting. Do: Show off! Do what you do best and let key decision makers sample it. Have a bakery? Deliver a “Cake-o-Gram” to local wedding planners or make scratch and sniff business cards to hand out with samples at a trade show. Don’t: Forget to plan ahead. For deliveries, connect with your contacts beforehand to qualify your leads and map out your route for efficiency. Some favorites and ideas: • Rosalyn Adams, Director of Marketing and Counseling with Pitt Street Pharmacy, custom prints prescription labels for events and fills the bottles with mints or other treats. • Personalized Lego figures at brickengraver.com. • Custom print balloons at Teacups & Trucks in Mt Pleasant and give them out “uninflated” with a special message or giveaway that is seen only when inflated.

White Elephant Gift Exchange This is a fun way to get everyone involved but take the pressure off purchasing something specific. There are several ways to “play but the gist is, you purchase and wrap a gift and add it to a pile. Each person picks a gift that they open and then have one opportunity to switch gifts with another person.
Reindeer Games Put lots of office-appropriate challenges or games (serenade your coworkers with a Jingle Bells for example) in a stocking and have team members complete the challenges. Encourage festive attire!

Leadership Training Across industries and particularly in technology and industrials, women are underrepresented at every level of companies with the disparity widening at senior level positions. The Lean In and McKinsey & Company’s 2015 report “Women in the Workplace” found that the leadership ambition gap persists, women experience an uneven playing field at work and at home, employee programs are abundant while participation is low and women’s networks provide less access to senior-level sponsorship. What can you do? Leadership: The Center for Women offers the Smart Leadership program that helps mid- to upper-level management team learn how to lead and manage complimentary yet conflicting attributes like delivering results while building relationships in pursuit of organizational goal attainment. Employees: Self assess: what are your concerns, stresses, barriers on your pathway to personal and professional growth? Examine your responses and systematically work to address each one seeking the outside support and guidance from an expert where necessary. Find a sponsor; someone who is in an influential position in your workplace who will help you expand your network. For more information: www.c4women.org www.womenintheworkplace.com

LowCountry Women’s Specialists
Women’s Health Myths, Busted You can’t get pregnant during your period. FALSE Sperm can live for up to a week! My mother had a late menopause, so I will too. POSSIBLY TRUE The timing of menopause is dependent on the number of eggs you have. Factors such as smoking and childhood infections can kill off the eggs at a faster rate, but in the absence of these circumstances, menopause is usually determined by the number of eggs you have, which is quite similar to that of your mother’s. You need to go off the Pill three months before trying to get pregnant. FALSE The pill does not remain in your system for longer than 24 – 48 hours. Your daughter doesn’t need to see a gynecologist until she’s sexually active. FALSE A visit to the gynecologist is recommended for girls starting at 15 and 16 years old. While a pelvic exam may not be necessary, it’s important to discuss her health and any irregularities in her menstrual cycle.
We combine experience with state of the art technology to give you confidence in your health care decisions. Come to us for preventive care and pap smears. Decorating Sense Keep these tips in mind the next time you are updating a room in your home: • Set a budget for what you want to spend on the room. • Make a list of the functions that a room must have and let the form follow. • Use a bulletin board (electronic or physical) to pin up your paint choices, wallpaper samples, fabric selections and clippings you have gotten out of magazines, etc. to help give your idea direction. • Use a piece of graph paper to make a scale size room and cut paper to represent your furniture pieces so you can play with the arrangement of the room without breaking your back! • Be sure to take an inventory of all the items you have in your home before going out to buy something new. Often times, we “designate” a piece of furniture to one room of the home and keep it there over time. Open your mind – that china cabinet could make a great piece in the study! • Save money on drapery by selecting a fabulous, pricier fabric for the front of the drapes and putting an interlining between that fabric and the lining. You’ll love the way it drapes.

Gift Giving Q & A • Do I send a gift upon receiving an announcement (birth, graduation, etc.)? A gift, though appreciated, is not required. A note is a great alternative. • Is it impolite to print “No gifts, please” on invitations? While formal etiquette once declared this practice to be in poor taste, it is now generally accepted. • Is it impolite to mention plans for a group gift on party invitations? Include a note that gives guests the opportunity to contribute and provide details. Have all that contribute sign the card. • I showed up without a gift; what do I do? Send one later with a nice note and don’t apologize or belabor the fact you didn’t bring it to the event.

THE 5 COMMON LANDSCAPE PLANTING MISTAKES 1. Over-planting
Small trees and shrubs are often planted too close together to get a "full" look. The result several years later is a crowded landscape. Know the mature size of plants and give them room—and time—to grow.
2. Lawn areas are cluttered with trees and shrubs
Plants scattered throughout the lawn appear unorganized and create maintenance problems. Group shrubs and trees in mulched plant beds bordering the lawn.
3. Shrubs around the home are too tall
When plants grow too tall they cover windows and no longer enhance the home's appearance. Select foundation plants with an ultimate (mature) size that fits their location. Instead of shearing shrubs, selectively clip stray shoots to keep the plant neat and full.
4. Plants are planted too close to the house
Plants too close to the house have an unattractive "cramped" look and may cause moisture problems by blocking vents. Foundation or corner shrubs should be planted half their mature width plus one foot away from the wall.
5. Bright colors are scattered throughout the yard
When brilliant color is scattered along the foundation or elsewhere around the yard, it confuses and may overwhelm the viewer. Concentrate color where accent is desired. The goal is to attract attention to focal areas of the house.

Save Your Wedding Cake The tradition of saving the top of tier of the wedding cake to eat on the first wedding anniversary started when the cake was saved to be served at the couple’s baby shower. Now you can have your cake (and your family-planning freedom) and eat it too. Follow these steps to keep it as fresh as possible: • Remove sugar decorations or flowers. • Wrap the cake in several layers of plastic wrap (never use aluminum foil). • Seal the wrapped cake in an airtight bag. • Store in the freezer.

Makeup By Merit
No Makeup on the Dress Many brides face the challenge of not getting makeup on their dress if it requires them to put the dress over their head. Here’s an easy tip. Put on your makeup first, and then put a clear shower cap over your face. It won’t stick to your make up, your makeup won’t get on your dress, and you can still see through it!

Food for Thought ❑ Know how much you can spend. Most caterers’ menus are quoted per person, and your caterer can help you work with your budget to create a menu that goes a long way without compromising the quality of the food. ❑ Choose a unifying principle for your food - an ethnic theme, your favorites Southern foods dressed up a bit, a spread featuring seasonal produce, etc. ❑ If you’re looking to save costs, have your baker make one, small, more-elaborate cake for display and the ceremonious cutting and keep a sheet cake in back to serve to guests on plates after the cake cutting. ❑ Stock your bar with the most popular liquors, decent wine and enough sparkling wine for a toast. If you’re budget is tight, choose beer, wine, bubbles and a signature cocktail. ❑ Edible party favors like cookies, cupcakes, spiced nuts or even more substantial food like sliders make a great night cap after a night of celebrating.
