Overview   Isabella
Cannon
International
Center
(ICIC)
is
an
organization
on
Elon
University
campus
 dedicated
to
create
a
culturally
cohesive
and
globally
aware
community.
The
ICIC
aims
to
do
 so
through
initiating
programs
and
events
to
facilitate
the
sharing
and
appreciation
of
 different
cultures
as
well
as
the
development
and
advocating
of
study
abroad
programs.


Achievements  Elon
was
one
of
four
institutions
to
receive
the
prestigious
2007 Senator Paul Simon  Award for Campus Internationalization from
NAFSA:
Association
of
International
 Educators,
with
students
coming
from
48
states,
the
District
of
Columbia
and
49
countries.
 #1
in
the
country
for
the
number
of
students
who
study
abroad
–
over
70
percent
of
Elon’s
 2010
graduating
seniors
studied
abroad
at
least
once.

endowed
the
Isabella
Cannon
International
Center
in
1999.
Born
 May
12,
1904
in
Scotland,
Cannon
made
history
when
she
became
the
first
woman
elected
 mayor
of
Raleigh
at
age
73.
She
was
affectionately
known
as
“the
little
old
lady
in
tennis
 shoes”
and
was
highly
respected
for
her
commitment
and
service
to
both
Elon
University
 and
her
country.
She
went
on
to
give
a
generous
sum
of
$1
million
to
build
the
ICIC,
to
create
 opportunities
for
Elon
University
to
be
connected
to
the
world.
