Personal Project Illustrating the first page

Identified and ordered my poems.

Began to rough illustrations in my sketchbook. I took my usual pencil approach to begin and focussed on alternating between use of space and ensuring there was a depth to my sketches.

I wasn’t sure on what processes I wanted to use so played around with a few first. Ben’s (very good) advice was to just keep working on one image until I got it right and it would then lead the way for the others.

•

Played around in my sketchbook with textures and details and then applied them to the sketches in photoshop. Inspired by my thought experiment earlier this year, however I soon realised it wasn’t what I wanted from my outcomes and left analogue behind altogether.

•

Wasn’t getting the look I wanted to achieve using Photoshop and Wacom brushes

•

I played around with colours and created the mess on the right to help picture everything built up better.

•

Considered what my previously successful work has been comprised of- usually Photoshop or Illustrator. I considered which of these I enjoy using most, which at last brought me to illustrator.

•

Almost immediately after restarting on Illustrator I knew it was the way forward. I enjoy its flexibility and the sharp edges work well with contrasting colours.

•

After building the colours and shapes up on Illustrator to a point where I was happy I began to play around with, add and refine details using Photoshop and a Wacom tablet.

•

I decided to extended the illustration over to the other page to frame the text which I felt was more effective as a spread.

•

I decided to leave the text like it is above as a place holder and to return to it when all of my pages were built up.
