Foot-brawls POLICE in Alicante City and Cartagena made several arrests at the weekend after brawls erupted between football fans at two separate games. National Police have launched an investigation into fights in Alicante City which they suspect were organised on social media. The brawls, which involved at least 55 fans from the Alicante-based Hercules CF and CD Castellon, resulted in several injuries and three arrests. Local and National Police officers in Cartagena were called out after scuffles broke out between supporters of the Cartagena FC and CD Badajoz. SPORT SCUFFLE: Several fans were involved in the violence. from some of them. Luis Barcala, the mayor of Alicante City, said police officers had acted very quickly in the face of difficult circumstances and added violence in sports had to be stamped out.
“I condemn all kinds of violence that goes against that spirit of fair play that has to prevail in sports and all hobbies,” he said.
