Ten held in human trafficking bust
A MAN and a woman found guilty of abducting children, including taking a baby from the arms of a social worker, have been sentenced to 18 months and one year in prison respectively in Alicante.

TRAFFICK STOPPED: Officers search one of the detainee’s homes. OFFICERS of the National Police have detained 10 people for allegedly trafficking human beings for slave labour. They have also been accused of illegal immigration and belonging to a criminal organisation. Previous police operations have established a relationship with the Nicaraguan community in Murcia, and their inquiries this time uncovered the trafficking ring. Statements were taken from various trafficking victims and they had been taken from Nicaragua with the promise of getting them a job as domestic workers in Spain. They were lent between €3,000 and €3,500 for flights and documents, but
for which they would later be charged extortionate levels of interest. The 10 people arrested consist of three Spanish men and seven Nicaraguan women, while 20 victims are being helped.

Spying scandal rocks council by Tom Woods THE discovery of a device for audio and video recording in the office of Eva Montesinos - the Alicante City Town Planning councillor has caused a political storm. The revelation has damaged the relationship between the PSPV, which is responsible for the recorder, and members from the Guanyar Alacant and Compromis political parties. Both Guanyar Alacant and Compromis have filed complaints with the National Police and the Prosecutor’s office about the incident. Mayor of Alicante, Gabriel Echavarri, also had his office searched though no such device was found. A routine sweep of Ms Montesinos’ office was made by a private company hired by the council, which found the gadget under a
