Foreign species to blame for Mojacar coast invasion AN exotic invasive species of coral has been found by researchers in Torre del Pirulico, Mojacar. The High Scientific Investigation Council discovered the species called Oculina patagonica, which covers 55 per cent of the surface area studied. Many believe the invasion is due to the local species, Cladocora caespitose, dying out because of global warming, which also seems to favour the invasive Oculina patagonica.
