Eureka Springs has been a vibrant art village since the early 1920’s and we’ve been known around the world for our art and architecture ever since. Today, we have over 350 working artists, performers, musicians and more than 30 art galleries. There are working artist studios scattered throughout town that are open to the public.

If you’re more of the outdoorsy type - you’ve just found nirvana! For an adrenaline rush, try out the zip line or the miles of rugged to tame mountain biking trails, hiking and multi-use trails, or explore the many caves and caverns. For the wet & wild in you, head to one of two rivers or three lakes for great fishing, smooth water for canoe or kayak floats, boating, jet skiing, paddle boarding or Stand Up Paddle Boarding. Eureka Springs has lots of attractions and points of interest. Stroll through town and take in over 65 natural springs with manicured pocket parks. Venture into the wild at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge or head to Lake Leatherwood Park, one of the largest city parks in the U.S. Make it an evening at the Great Passion Play or take in the stellar beauty and architecture of the famous Thorncrown Chapel. HISTORY & HERITAGE Eureka Springs is one of the largest Historic Districts in Arkansas. The National Trust for Historic Preservation named it one of twelve Distinctive Destinations in America. The city is passionate about preserving this treasure, and with good reason. The town was founded and named on July 4, 1879. Hundreds of Victorian homes have remained. Today, tiny cottages and elaborate mansions line the streets. Some are tucked into the mountains along with every other architectural style from mid-century classing (including a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian home) to contemporary and treehouses. There are 360 streets that wind around the town which intersect only once at a right angle. Sixty eight miles of 100+ year-old handstacked limestone walls line the town. There are no traffic lights. Along the entire downtown of Eureka Springs there are 14 properties listed on the National Register of Historic places and 27 listed in Carroll County.

Eureka Springs is also home to one of only four libraries in Arkansas in which Andrew Carnigie funded. Completed in 1912, this historical landmark continues to serve the residents and visitors of Carroll County today. By late 1879, the estimated population of Eureka Springs reached 10,000 people and in 1881 was declared not only a “City of the First Class,” but also the fourth largest city in Arkansas. There are countless historical focal points in town, including the 1929 Municipal Auditorium, opened by John Phillips Souza, the Eureka Underground (a civil war hospital), famed Abolitionist Carry Nation’s Home, houses of ill repute, Bath Houses, 5 historic hotels pre-dating 1906, and of course...the unique underground tunnel system built beneath the city.

Eureka Springs has historically been called “The Little Switzerland of America” and “The Stairstep Town” because of its European look, mountainous terrain and the winding, up-and-down paths of its streets and walkways. The Historic Loop has an alpine character with extensive streetscape dotted with springs, grottos and trails. Eureka Springs is also known as “The City that Water Built” because of the restorative and healing properties of its springs, which were once sacred to Native American tribes and attracted thousands of health-seekers. 1.800.6EUREKA

RIDE EUREKA SPRINGS “It’s all about the ride,” is a phrase often said by people that enjoy the road from a motorcycle seat. That’s why riders from all over the United States have discovered Eureka Springs as a motorcycle vacation destination. Sitting in the heart of the beautiful Ozark Mountains, the roads leading in and out of our city make us the best place to headquarter. From routes like the Pig Trail, recognized in USA Today as the 2nd Best Ride in the Country, to back roads and scenic highways that include rolling hills, open stretches of blacktop, twisting curves and switchbacks, you quickly see why Arkansas truly is “the Natural State”. No matter what motorcycling skill level you have, there’s a road with your name on it promising a saddlebag full of great memories. There are many reasons why we have been featured in national publications and on popular television shows like “The Motorhead Traveler” featured on MAV-TV, and why motorcycle clubs and organizations have chosen Eureka Springs for their regional and national rallies. Eureka Springs is favored by many bikers every September as they participate in Bikes, Blues and BBQ, one of the nation’s largest motorcycling events. We have all the amenities needed for a successful event including great rides, biker friendly lodging and camping, good food, drink, shopping, entertainment and nightlife. Part of the “Eureka Experience” is visiting our historic downtown. If you choose to do so, please remember our limestone buildings, sidewalks and hard surfaces positioned in a cavernous canyon amplifies all sound. Therefore when downtown, let’s create an Extraordinary Experience for Everyone. Remember… “Idle is Ideal!”

THE WET & WILD

OUTDOORS Eureka Springs is rich with natural resources, beauty and adventure. Tucked between Beaver and Table Rock Lakes, and close to the White, King and Buffalo Rivers, outdoor recreation is plentiful and diverse. Hiking, biking, swimming, boating, fishing, zip-lining, hunting, cave exploring, waterfall spotting and bird watching are favorite past times. Enjoy a scenic lake cruise and hear the history of Beaver Dam and the Ozark Bluff Dwellers or watch for eagles during the month of October. Over 1800 acres of city park and land offer and up-close-and-personal look at wildlife, rare species and the wonders of nature. Eureka Springs is consistently singled out as one of the best places in the country to take in the fall colors.

LAKE LEATHERWOOD DAM

One of the hottest things going in Eureka Springs is the miles and miles of multi-use trails for mountain biking, hiking and multi-sport competition. Lake Leatherwood Trails ramble through a 1600-acre park with and 85-acre spring-fed lake and features one of the largest hand-cut limestone dams in the U.S. The biking is excellent with trails that go from easy to advance with over 400 feet of elevation gain from the lowest trail to the highest. Many rocky ledges, steep slopes, extended grades, creek crossings and varied terrain make most trails challenging for both foot and bike traffic. Leatherwood is free, open all year and is an awesome place to camp, ride, boat and hang out. It also boast’s the only ‘true’ natural feature downhill in Northwest Arkansas and the trail system host’ s the annual Fat Tire Festival.

STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING

There’s plenty of the great outdoors to take in just by staying in town. The in-town trail system will take you by many of our 65+ natural springs and pocket parks, the Harmon Park Rain Garden and many of the historic sites and amazing architecture. BLACK BASS LAKE

For an adrenaline rush, zip-line through the mountains or ski, scuba and stand up paddle board on beautiful Beaver Lake. For a more laid back experience, the White, King and Buffalo Rivers are ideal for floating, fishing or just taking in the natural beauty of the Ozarks.

Eureka Spring’s Lake Leatherwood City Park offers an 80 acre, spring fed lake in the middle of 1600 acres of rugged Ozark beauty. Originally built by the CCC, recent renovations have helped to bring the luster back to this gem. The park has boat rentals, excellent fishing, swimming, a large playground, camping, cabins, and nearly 25 miles of trails. Much of the trail system has hand cut single track that has been challenging and exhilarating hikers and mountain bikers for over 20 years.

Eureka Springs is an excellent place to stay for mountain bike enthusiasts, with over 200 miles of world class trails and bike parks within an hour’s drive. Part of the Oz Trails system that promotes “Year-Round Ozark Singletrack,” Lake Leatherwood is one of the original mountain bike trail systems in the state, second only to Devils Den State Park. The Fat Tire Festival and Race has been held at Leatherwood since 1998. Northwest Arkansas has established itself as a premier mountain biking destinatio Nearby Bentonvile hosted the International Mountain Biking Association World Summit in 2016 and the region was also named one of the first regional ride centers by IMBA. OZ Trails were also used by Bike Magazine to test bikes for the 2017 Bible of Test Bikes issue. A TASTE OF EUREKA It’s very rare to visit a city with over 100 restaurants and only 3 of them are chain eateries! Well – welcome to the food scene in Eureka Springs. Our entire downtown is on the National Registry of Historic Places so no chains – food, shops or otherwise – are allowed. The cuisine and spirits are as diverse as the town itself. Most of the restaurants are chef-owned and operated with the menus dripping with secret family recipes and ingredients. No matter your taste or diet, you won’t go hungry or thirsty in Eureka Springs. Mexican, Thai, Italian, fusion, farm-to-table, barbeque, burgers, steak, fish, Chinese, southern comfort and low-south tastes can all be satisfied with options spanning down-home southern comfort food to award-winning bistros and 5-star, high continental cuisine. You’ll also want to visit our two wineries, brew-pubs and coffee houses. There’s no place like Eureka Springs for extraordinary dining experiences.

Where art, nature, and architecture converge... just a fantastic experience... the design for the complex is certainly world-class. The main interior spaces are breath-taking... a sanctuary for art and nature. Be sure to hike at least a portion of their trail system... the natural setting could not be more beautiful. Put a day's excursion on your calendar, you will be glad you did! David, California

TO YOUR

HEALTH

Eureka Springs was founded by “health seekers”. Legend has it that Native Americans of the Osage discovered therapeutic relaxation and spiritual connectivity here from the ‘healing waters’ of our natural springs, the pure mountain air and locally grown and harvested foods. Word travelled fast that Eureka was the “Road to Health”. People from all over flocked to the town creating one of America’s most popular resort destinations - the first of its kind in the Midwest and Midsouth.

Rest, relax and rejuvenate by scheduling a spa treatment by one of our many professional health practitioners that combine new technology and techniques with traditional massage. Let off some steam by taking a steam or sauna. Go a bit deeper with aromatherapy, acupressure, acupuncture, facials, primordial sound medication, reflexology or just good ole exercise.

As a natural health conscious community, we are proud of our local Famers Market, natural food stores and herbal apothecaries and pharmacies.

And remember, this is not only good for you, it feels good too! A spa visit is a great way to release stress and it’s a wonderful way for couples to reconnect by enjoying a couple’s massage.
