Seinäjoki Art Hall is an exhibition space for changing contemporary art exhibitions and a venue for visual art in Uppa, Seinäjoki. At the beginning of 2020, the activities will be transferred to new premises in the Kaleva cowshed. The Art Hall’s almost 40year history in Upankatu is celebrated in the spring of 2019, which is reflected in the exhibition programme and events.
The Art Hall’s almost 40-year history in Upankatu is celebrated in May. The programme includes, among other things, the publication of the Art Hall’s history, events and the Helmi festival combining contemporary dance and music. Our diverse basic activities with guided tours and art workshops, clubs and meetings with artists are also ongoing. SPRING EXHIBITIONS: Our stories – young artists from South Ostrobothnia until 17 February 2019 The exhibition presents the latest works of 9 contemporary artists who reached the finals of the Young Artist of the Year in Southern Ostrobothnia competition. Traces 23 February–2 June 2019 The exhibition by the Seinäjoki Artists’ Association sums up the journey of the Art Hall to date as well as the long-standing cooperation between the Art Hall and the Artists’ Association. 24 April 2019–8 March 2020 Koiramäen kartanolla (“At Doghill House”) Explore and experience the old days with the Doghill characters of Mauri Kunnas
Young Alvar Aalto designed the building in the mid-1920s for the Civil Guard of South Ostrobothnia. The Civil Guard soldiers built it through community efforts. In addition to the original materials and painted surfaces, you can still feel the atmosphere of the period between the world wars in the building. The exhibitions describe the history and activities of the Civil Guards and the Lotta Svärd organisation.

Where are we? You can explore the heart of South Ostrobothnia at the exhibitions in the stone-built cowshed. The guided tours also offer a peek at the other former outbuildings and residences of Östermyra Manor. By crossing the street, you will find yourself in the courtyard of a genuine, traditional South Ostrobothnian two-storey house in the Liinamaa outdoor museum area. Lastly, it is worth returning to the museum shop where you can find souvenirs to take home.

Like many other Finnish companies, Kyrö Distillery originated from a dream conceived in a sauna. Eventually, the distillery found a home in an old dairy in Isokyrö. Valkoinen Puu (“White Tree”) is a lifestyle business operating in Kauhajoki and Seinäjoki that came into being with the falling in love of Kirsi from Finland and Mark from the US. Our café specialises in American cakes and pastries, the recipes for which have found their way to South Ostrobothnia through family heritage. SEINÄJOKI CITY ORCHESTRA The permanent composition of the Seinäjoki City Orchestra includes a string quintet and a wind quintet. With reinforcements, the orchestra regularly performs in the region as a symphony orchestra. The main concert building is Seinäjoki Hall, and the season’s concert programme includes classical music as well as fresh examples of other genres: The city orchestra can also do tango and swing, for example.
