Walking the Camino An excerpt from A Million Steps by Kurt Koontz, chapter: Day 9, Burgos Blister
was up early, gathering my belongings in a room near my sleeping quarters. Five women in their mid-60s sat at the table, all looking at me with serious concern. One of them finally broke the awkward silence by making a request of me. “We have a problem,” she said with great solemnity. “The women’s restroom is without paper. We are wondering if you would do us the kind service
of swiping a few rolls from the men’s bathroom?” With this, they all broke into gleeful, somewhat embarrassed laughter. Relieved that the need was so easily met, I consented and made the transfer. Upon receiving their rolls, the ladies had still more mischief up their sleeves. “Thank you and we now christen thee the Saint of Rear Wipe,” they said, with more howls of laughter.
BEGINNING THE WALK As a newly anointed Royal, I began my solo 24-mile day’s walk. My first new friend for the day was Eugina from Greece. She had a lot going for her at the young age of 23. She had graduated from a local university with a degree in accounting. For fun, she was a lifeguard in the summer and taught skiing in the winter. Eugina was using her time on the Camino to con-

template her next move in life. I was always impressed to meet people in her age group on the walk. It made me wonder how my life would have been different had I undertaken this challenge in my 20s. Would this spiritual refreshment have allowed me to confront my alcohol demons at an earlier point in life? Would my fears of intimacy have been eased at a different time? Would I have taken the same career path?
east with the word Santiago and 518 KM. This meant that in nine days of walking I had already covered about one-third of the Camino. It was a bit of a wake-up call as I felt time disintegrating at a rapid pace. I calculated that 17,740 days separated my birth from that day. If I am lucky and live to age 80, I had roughly 11,000 days to go. Like many people, I spent the first portion of my life trying to please my parents. After college, I spent time and energy trying to please my employer and society. My retirement at age 36 CONTEMPLATING was a deliberate move to create TIME Later, I passed a sign pointing a fork in my own road. Now, on
this trip, I was contemplating how to live the rest of my life. Would I marry Roberta or find new love? Would I exit retirement for a paying career or be fulfilled with volunteer work? How would I take my mom’s death? All this weighed on my mind as I walked. About two thirds of the way to Burgos, I stopped to take a routine break and give my feet some attention. For Camino pilgrims, vanity disintegrated about 10 minutes into the first day, and they were quick to share the naked foot as some type of trophy. My memory carries

twisted images of feet with blisters on the soles, on the heels, in-between the toes, and on the tops. Camino Cancer erupted on all locations below the laces. Some blisters were fresh and clear, some disgusting and infected. Many were covered with bandages and moleskin. They were all disturbing to see and worse to endure. They served as a constant source of chatter, an obvious reason for a limp, and one of the few acceptable topics for complaining. But not me. I felt that I was prepared. I was fit. I had worked out two hours a day for decades. I was the guy who always seemed to be at the gym on the cardio machines.
I had always been an athlete. In recent years, I had biked at least 15,000 miles in the United States and Europe. On the Camino, I had already taken 334,370 blister-free steps. I felt like Superman! Until day number nine, on the way to Burgos. I got a blister. And it hurt!

She begins, “This is just like my life: I chose the little one so I wouldn’t look dumb, wouldn’t fail. I always go for the safe bet, the sure thing.”
“Miracles happen everyday, and you are no exception.” in hand, heads directly for one of the miniature horses. For the next 20 minutes, we hear “Hi, will you come with me,”… “I’m sorry to bother you when you’re eating,” …“Where are the sugar cubes?” …and then finally, “He’s never going to
She continues, “And I didn’t want to be a bother; his needs are more important than mine. Story of my life!” We ask about the request for sugar cubes. “It’s what I do; the message in my head is ‘why would anyone want to spend time with me,’ so I give
gifts or offer to buy dinner so they will have a reason to spend time with me.”
I’M ENOUGH! As she continues to share her feelings of never feeling like she’s enough, she is unaware that the miniature horse has stopped eating and is walking toward the circle some 30 feet away, moving past the others and going directly toward this woman. She asks, “What’s he doing?” The horse stops only when his head has reached her and is resting on her abdomen. “What is he doing?” she asks again. “Looks like he’s choosing to be with you,” the facilitator said. “With me? Without anything else...just me?” CONTINUED PAGE 16...

Housecleaning for the Soul
n Zero Limits, bestselling author Joe Vitale revealed the secret of the Hawaiian art of Ho’oponopono, which instantly clears those unconscious programs, even if we don’t know what they are! In his new book At Zero: The Quest for Miracles Through Ho’oponopono (Wiley), Vitale takes us the rest of the way--showing how we can realize our infinite potential and even experience enlightenment with new advanced techniques of Ho’oponopono. This is an excerpt from At Zero. After practicing Ho’oponopono for almost 10 years, it’s clear
to me that the Hawaiians have a wonderful tool for clearing the data so that we can hear that still, small voice within, whether we call it God, the Divine, or Nature. As you practice Ho’oponopono, you clear the data in your sub-conscious, which frees you to hear the path the Divine has waiting for you. The more you clear the lower self of its programming, the more your higher self can guide your way.
from the Divine. The only thing to clean is what you feel inside. The only goal is freedom—to be at Zero. The world is made up of data, and it’s that data that needs to be cleaned. There’s nothing out there. It’s all inside you. That’s where you experience problems—and that’s where the cleaning needs to be done. But what is the right way to clean? If cleaning is the number one most important thing to do and the core of the entire Zero GOAL IS FREEDOM: Limits process, how do you do it accurately? TO BE AT ZERO The more you clean, the I’ve found these ideas work more you receive inspiration well for me: CONTINUED PAGE 20...
CONTINUED NOTICE SOMETHING WRONG
START TO CLEAN ON THE FEELING
LET GO UNTIL PROMPTED TO TAKE INSPIRED ACTION
This can be triggered by a thought, another person, an event, or anything else. No one can make you mad or upset; you do that inside yourself from what you perceive outside yourself. The first step is to notice you don’t feel good. You’re angry, upset, worried, scared, or any other of a wide range of emotions and feelings that could be labeled as unhappy.
It’s not about cleaning on the other person, the thought, the situation, or anything out there. I’m the one who has to clean it, saying, “I love you,” “I’m sorry,” “Please forgive me,” and, “Thank you.” You can say them in any order. I say them nonstop in my mind while feeling the problem as I perceive it. And I say them to the Divine.
My mentor, Dr. Hew Len told me that he cleans on a decision three times. If the answer is the same after those cleanings, he takes action on it. This means that if I get an impulse to do something to resolve the perceived problem, I might clean on it three times before I actually take any action. This is a way to ensure the action is coming from inspiration and not memory.

I keep cleaning because it makes me feel lighter, happier, and healthier. It’s a fast-track way for me to remove the data in my being so that I can get closer to the Divine. It’s also easy, effortless, and free.

Resolve your digestive problems
n Digestive Intelligence: A Holistic View of Your Second Brain, Dr. Irina Matveikova highlights what she describes as the two way relationship between our first brain, the one in our head and the second brain, the one in the gut. I can assure you that the relationship between the two brains, which involves the hormonal, metabolic, and emotional levels, is very complex and we could even call it “intellectual;” it is also normally quite democratic and mutually respectful.
digestive behavior affects our thoughts and moods: A very tense emotional situation, or a state of terror or a traumatic event may make you vomit, or else provoke diarrhea or cause total indigestion. When you feel lonely, or frustrated sentimentally, or when your self-esteem has been destroyed, the psychological state you are in can influence your metabolism and the complex processes of digestion. This may cause lack of appetite, disgust, or indifference and a slow and troublesome digestion. More often this “chronic unhappiness” is expressed as a state of anxiety and compulsive HOW THE BRAIN behavior, with uncontrollable AFFECTS OUR binge eating at critical moments, DIGESTION Here are some examples of usually mid-afternoon and how the upper brain influences late at night. This compulsive our digestion and how our and uncontrolled eating (espe-
cially carbohydrates) leads to a rapid release of hormones and chemical substances in both brains, which induce a temporary feeling of wellbeing and overall satisfaction. Shortly afterwards, however, this neuronal mechanism “runs out of steam,” the digestion breaks down and heaviness and CONTINUED PAGE 26...

bloating develop; the digestive system starts to groan and protest at this food abuse and this is accompanied by a guilty feeling. Your self-esteem reaches its lowest ebb and you begin to regret what you have done. At this point, many women decide to make themselves vomit.
HOW TWO BRAINS COMMUICATE A bout of diarrhea with episodes of colic and spasms (which may be the flaring-up of irritable bowel condition or gastroenteritis) prevents you from thinking clearly. It’s as if your irritability and sensitivity are turned up to maximum volume and you feel overcome by tiredness and exhaustion. This makes you badtempered and lowers your level of intellectual productivity. Constipation accompanied by bloating makes you feel that your life is “weighing you down” with its problems (and your stomach
feels the same) and you lose all interest in social and physical activities. You may not believe me but chronic constipation can turn a person into a sarcastic pessimist, lowering the libido and limiting his sex life. Whatever the reason for the constipation it can lead to a lower level of serotonin (or a lower sensitivity to this hormone) produced by the neurons in the intestinal brain. This limits digestive muscular motility (the ability of the intestinal muscles to generate soft and regular movements and contractions, which mix and propel contents in the gastrointestinal tract) and this in turn triggers a lack of positive emotions. On the other hand, slow intestinal transit increases the toxic overload in our organism. A buildup of emotions in the guts is very common in women who are perfectionists and want to control everything; it’s as if the control center of their lives were
in their intestines. This attitude generates particularly serious constipation that is resistant to classic treatments and remedies. Some people suppress their emotions and they are unable to express themselves; they do not know how to show affection and so they often experience an internal rebellion: episodes of profuse diarrhea, an irritable bowel, and over sensitized digestion. Our two brains are both masters. They engage, talk, sabotage, or reinforce each other. It depends on the day and the emotional and digestive situation. What kind of day will you decide to have? “Ha, I laugh in the face of Cancer”
WISH to offer to those in need, a most profound cancer protocol that saved my life, without a doctor, or insurance, and for less than $150 per month. In April of 2012, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and at the same time, my brother, the late Dr. Jerry Buss, owner of the Los Angeles Lakers was diagnosed with cancer of the abdomen. Jerry chose conventional cancer treatment, with surgery, aggressive chemo and radiation treatments. I did not have a mastectomy, chemo and radiation, because I did not believe
they would save my life. In fact, I felt they would end it. I went into prayer, and asked God, “What could I do to save my own life?” In that moment I was divinely guided to stand up, walk over to my office and open a file marked “cancer,” that I had placed there 15 or 20 years before. I had forgotten all about it. There was a flyer for “Two Feathers Healing Formula”— an American Indian Herbal Remedy. Here was the answer to my prayer! I ordered a jar, and began an immediate protocol, taking two capsules each day
internally. I was assisted by Robert Roy, the distributor of the formula.
HEALING OCCURS Within 14 days, one of the two marble sized tumors in my breast had collapsed. Three days later, the second tumor also collapsed. I placed some formula on the tumor site, and it opened a wound, and I could see the tumor. Fourteen days later the tumor actually fell out. It was the size of a silver dollar, and the depth of 10 quarters. Underneath, there was another tumor! Every two CONTINUED PAGE 31...
weeks another tumor fell out, until 18 in all had been released. I never got an infection, and the wound closed up by itself. It was painful, and I took medication to help me. I had an AMAS blood test that revealed the cancer was disappearing, and in a few months I was cancer free, and remain so today. As I was getting better, my beloved brother continued to get worse, and after a major surgery that included an “error,” there were more eight more surgeries and procedures to fix it, but the error was never corrected. He died on Feb. 18, 2013 after horrendous suffering. It broke my heart. It is my mission now to share my victory with any one who would like to duplicate my success. That is why I have written my book, “Ha, I laugh in the face of Cancer.” For those who may think that this protocol is just too easy, too inexpensive and too effective to be real, I would just ask you to consider this. If it is
“proof of life” you need, well, here I AM! Susan Liberty Hall, 68, former Playboy bunny, author of Ha, I Laugh in the Face of Cancer and Scented Adventures of The Bouquet Sisters in Fairyland. She healed herself from cancer with a Native American formula. Her brother, LA Lakers owner, Jerry Buss, also had cancer and chose conventional treatments, his suffering and untimely death, inspired Susan to write her book in his honor. www. hailaughinthefaceofcancer.com april-may 2014

Unlimited Wellness! Meditation is an answer
EELING WELL, looking good, being optimistic about your present and your future is a state of mind, more than anything else, and so your state of mind conditions your everyday wellness. Most of us ride a roller-coaster of feelings, and that ride can be exhausting until we discover meditation. There is a tradition, at once philosophic and scientific, called the Ageless Wisdom Teachings, that is both ancient and totally modern in relevance
since it comprises everything you need to know about being a human, and about the possibilities of living fully, happily in this body at this time in your life and at this time in the life of all of humanity, a most interesting period indeed. The most recent statement of these basics of life is to be found in the books by British author and painter, Benjamin Creme, specifically Transmission: A Meditation for the New Age. So important is meditation to modern day humans, that more and more of us are finding our way into its healing discipline.
MEDITATION: ROYAL ROAD TO OUR INNER DIVINITY Meditation is the “royal road to contact with that inner spark of divinity, that spiritual center, the Master within you, your Soul. Although there are many forms of meditation, more or less effective, one that is unique for its potency, safety, and simplicity, plus the fact that it is both a potent technique of personal spiritual development, and an effective way to help make the world safe for future generations is very special. It promotes Love in the world and CONTINUED PAGE 34...
harmony among peoples and nations. It is both Laya Yoga and Karma Yoga wrapped into one. I’ve seen people cry in joy to have found this most beneficial meditation: Transmission Meditation. To practice it, you only need the desire to serve the world, and the willingness to join with two or more others and sit together on a regular basis for one or two hours per week. Yes, hours...but the time will fly and you will be connecting with your own Soul simply
by holding attention at the ajna center between the eyebrows, saying the Great Invocation aloud, and periodically stabilizing the attention by thinking the mantra “OM.” Let Light, and Love, and Power restore the Plan on Earth. To find groups near you, visit www.Share-International.us. B e n j a m i n C r e m e’ s Transmission book is available to read online at www.share-international.org.
The Great Invocation
From the point of Light within the mind of God, let Light stream forth into the minds of men. Let Light descend on Earth. From the point of Love within the heart of God, let Love stream forth into the hearts of men. May Christ return to Earth. From the center where the will of God is known, let purpose guide the little wills of men, the purpose which the Masters know and serve. From the center which we call the race of men, let the plan of Love and Light work out. And may it seal the door where evil dwells.
