FOREWORD
Prof. Martine Bronner Dean of ESSEC Business School, Asia-Pacific
The role of business schools in today’s world is evolving. While academia remains a place of intellectual pursuit and conceptual exploration, it has become far more integrated and engaged in the world than ever before. As practitioners of management science, we at ESSEC believe that business schools have an important role to play in tackling the world’s biggest challenges. Since its founding in Paris in 1907, ESSEC has always devised creative and relevant ways to deliver business education. For over a century, it has retained a pioneering spirit, steadfast in its core mission of preparing the leaders and managers of tomorrow. We believe that to address the problems of tomorrow, students need to apply innovative thinking to the complex global issues of today. These issues may be economic in scope, but also encompass social, technological and environmental elements. In the context of Asia, a continent experiencing massive economic growth with all the attendant challenges, providing students and professionals with a broad scope of learning opportunities is essential. ESSEC opened its doors in Singapore in 2005 initially as a gateway to Asia for our students from the main campus in Paris. Now, in 2015, our home is a new, state-of-the art facility located in the one-north innovation hub that allows us to welcome students and professionals from Asia-Pacific and the rest of the world. The campus will serve as the regional hub while we sustain, develop, and expand our activities through our network of academic and corporate partnerships in major Asian cities including Ahmedabad, Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei and Tokyo. With the expertise of a renowned, multicultural faculty based in Singapore and France, the school offers innovative degree and executive programs providing Asian insights with global perspectives. We have introduced numerous academic programs, including the highly-regarded Master of Science in Management, a newly redesigned Global Bachelor in Business Administration offered at ESSEC’s 4 campuses worldwide, the ESSEC & Mannheim Executive MBA Asia-Pacific, as well as specialized degree and executive courses. Through these, we strive to provide long-term value to students, managers, and organizations throughout the region. Based on pedagogical creativity and our strong values, we believe that education today must blend field experience with in-depth learning, and geographical mobility with an articulated understanding of cultural diversity. With this in mind, we are convinced that ESSEC offers an unparalleled environment for students and professionals wishing to experience a learning-by-doing approach alongside high academic and research standards.

ESSEC BUSINESS SCHOOL The Pioneering Spirit
Established in 1907, ESSEC Business School is an academic institution of excellence which has been characterized by its pioneering spirit throughout its history. In both full-time education and vocational training, ESSEC offers a comprehensive range of programs to those wanting to venture on a unique learning experience that enhances their talent and leadership skills. A centennial institution with a wide network of corporate and academic partners across the globe, ESSEC has opted to focus its strategic development on three principles: innovation, involvement and internationalization. A research-driven institution committed to an ambitious development of alliances with leading universities, ESSEC constantly strives to expose its students to the latest technologies and cutting-edge knowledge across all disciplines. Hallmarked by a profound humanistic tradition, ESSEC has succeeded in making the link between business
and society a major subject of research. This is also one of the fundamental components of its philosophy in training responsible managers. ESSEC thereby affirms the necessity of placing innovation, knowledge and the creation of value at the service of the wider community. With students coming from 84 different countries, a largely international faculty body and a campus in the Asia-Pacific region since 2005, ESSEC is both a multipolar and multicultural institution. This internationalization is strengthened by the completion of the new, 6,500 m2 campus in Singapore and the implementation of development projects in Africa and Latin America. The three axes – innovation, involvement and internationalization – forge ESSEC’s learning philosophy that is common to all its programs: accompany our students throughout their learning journey, aimed at opening them up to new and unthought-of opportunities. Studying at ESSEC means creating your own path towards the future and joining a supportive community of 47,000 graduates worldwide.
ESSEC’s Campuses in France and Singapore Cergy-Pontoise
Paris-la Défense
Singapore
Our campus in Cergy-Pontoise was established in 1973 in a vast landscape of 2,000 hectares just 35 minutes from central Paris. Convenient and welcoming, it features the best amenities for studying, networking and communicating, including auditoriums, digital-era libraries, residences, restaurants and sports facilities.
Housed in the well-known CNIT building of Europe’s first business district, this campus is dedicated to executive education programs. Thanks to its strategic location and areas for group work and computer use, relaxation, reading and socialising, it offers the perfect conditions for education programs aimed at managers and executives.
Since 2005, ESSEC’s third campus has been welcoming students and professionals to the heart of a major economic, commercial and financial crossroads. It offers an ideal platform in the Asia-Pacific region for understanding the forces, complexity, diversity and challenges of a key area in the 21st century.

An Increasing Global Presence As the world becomes more globalized, management education must adopt a more international approach if it is to address the resulting challenges. ESSEC Business School is dedicated to expanding its international reach in an ever-evolving market. It is strategically positioned to attract future generations of managers looking for programs that emphasize a universal outlook while leveraging the school’s academic excellence. This global focus has led to the development of numerous academic and corporate partnerships that offer students substantial exchange, internship and dual-degree opportunities. With over 4,800 students from 84 countries and a faculty body representing 34 nationalities, ESSEC participants really begin an ‘international life’ as soon as they arrive at our campuses.
ESSEC Business School’s global reach is reinforced by its AACSB and EQUIS accreditations. In addition to its partnerships with 176 universities in 46 countries, in 2011, ESSEC initiated the creation of the Council on Business and Society, an alliance of six of the world’s leading business schools seeking to examine the consequences of business decisions on society. Joining ESSEC in this multicultural alliance are Fundação Getúlio Vargas EAESP São Paulo (Brazil), Keio Business School (Japan), Fudan University School of Management (China), the University of Mannheim Business School (Germany), and the Tuck School of Business (United States).
“My experience at ESSEC hugely influenced my career. I was encouraged to go abroad and that opened for me a world of possibilities that never stop.”

ESSEC ASIA-PACIFIC Embracing the Future of Business
Asian Insights and Global Perspectives In 2015, the number of students seeking higher education around the world exceeds 200 million, double the number reported in 2000. This increasing demand – much of which derives from the developing economies of Asia – along with greater student mobility around the globe, means that educational opportunities on the continent are changing in both scope and location.
Here, a majority of our programs have a strong pan-Asian core with an international perspective. We believe that the way we approach learning allows our students to look at the world differently. Our focus is on developing innovative thinking and entrepreneurial skills, something that is increasingly demanded of leaders in Asia as well as the rest of the world.
The economic dynamism of Singapore, and its position at a multicultural and educational crossroads, allows ESSEC Asia-Pacific to respond to the burgeoning demand for management education in Asia.
The school meets the needs of its participants by leveraging on the expertise of a world-class faculty, and delivering a unique learning experience that helps develop the ethos and dexterity they require for the constantly evolving, globalized work environment.
Singapore: The ESSEC Hub for Pan-Asian Development ESSEC Business School found Singapore to be the best location to extend its international presence and establish a campus in the AsiaPacific region. The vibrant economy of the city-state and its strategic geographic position make it the ideal foothold from which to offer management education in Asia. We aim to groom a new generation of global leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals who are able to take up the challenges of a fast-changing world. ESSEC Business School, Asia-Pacific was established in Singapore in 2005, and was located at the National Library Building for several years. In January 2015, we opened the doors to our new campus, located in the buzzing one-north business park. The new campus, designed by the renowned architect Dr. Liu Thai Ker, allows us to develop closer ties with partner universities based in the region. Furthermore, our alumni chapters in Asia continue to be actively involved in the development of the school and offer guidance to students interested in developing a career in the region.

The Asia-Pacific campus houses its own centers of excellence that are dedicated to research in four specialist fields: • Center of Excellence for Impact Entrepreneurship • Institute for Research and Education on Negotiation (IRENE), Asia-Pacific • Institute of Health Economics and Management (IHEM), Asia-Pacific • Institute for Sustainable Development and Smart Cities Through these centers, students and executive participants will have the opportunity to access the most up-to-date research on a variety of Asian and global issues.
“Using the usual approach of marketing might not be enough to understand what is happening in Islamic countries. Being in Southeast Asia allows us to develop and share our expertise on Islamic business.”
Prof. Cédomir Nestorovic, Ph.D. Professor, Management Department Director, ESSEC & Mannheim Executive MBA Asia-Pacific
“Asia is going through massive social and economic change. It is one thing to watch it from a distance but quite another to be in Asia physically and understand this phenomenon from close quarters. Singapore in particular is a vibrant, well-connected city, which is very important for collecting data, gaining access to businesses in the region and conducting original field work.”

These include the Master of Science in Management, ESSEC & Mannheim Executive MBA AsiaPacific, Advanced Master in Strategy and Management of International Business, MSc in Finance, MSc in Management of Health Industries, and the ESSEC Global Bachelor in Business Administration, among others. The school also welcomes research work within the framework of the Ph.D program.

Dr. Patrick Lecomte Executive Director of the Advanced Master in Financial Techniques (Asian Track), ESSEC Business School Senior Research Fellow, ESSEC Business School
The Asian Strategy Project (ASP) The Asian Strategy Project (ASP) is the perfect illustration of ESSEC’s focus on learning-by-doing. The ASP was designed in partnership with Capgemini Consulting to study innovative business models in Asia. This three-month intensive consulting program is offered to students who are in the final year of the Master of Science in Management. Over the course of this program, students work on a strategic issue faced by an organization based in Asia. It is divided into three phases with the first phase focusing on the development of key consulting skills along with desk research, the second phase requiring students to be on site at the company they are working for, and in the third phase, they return back to Singapore to present their findings. Throughout the program, students are supervised by an ESSEC faculty member and a coach from Capgemini Consulting.
“The ASP was an amazing experience. Having an internship with any big Western company is something great, but learning from a small Asian company and dealing with local culture and working habits is something completely different.”

LOOKING FORWARD
Prof. Kevyn Yong Academic Dean of ESSEC Business School, Asia-Pacific Associate Professor, Management Department
Establishing ESSEC’s new Asia-Pacific campus in Singapore is testament to our growing success and commitment to this region. We aim to be a leading contributor to business education in Singapore, Asia and beyond. To achieve this ambitious goal, we are undertaking a strategy focused on internationalization, innovation, and involvement. An international educational experience is an integral part of our curriculum. With this in mind, we have redesigned our highly successful Bachelor in Business Administration to launch a new global version starting in September 2015. Students in this program can start their first year either in Singapore or in France. Similarly, participants in our ESSEC & Mannheim Executive MBA Asia-Pacific based in Singapore have the opportunity to complete two overseas residencies in two countries with the support of our partner universities. Moreover, Singapore-based executives will welcome their France-based counterparts from our successful ESSEC & Mannheim Executive MBA program for joint classes and events. We are also committed to innovation in research and pedagogical approaches. In terms of research, we have organized our faculty expertise around centers of excellence to create leading-edge knowledge on digital business, entrepreneurship, finance and economics, hospitality and travel, international governance and dialogue, luxury, art and culture management and society, and smart life. On the pedagogical front, we are planning a ‘Knowledge Lab’ for experimenting and accelerating the development of new pedagogical approaches. Following the successful launch of the Knowledge Lab in France, the one in Singapore will be designed to enhance interactivity and creativity within the Asia-Pacific context. We approach involvement with the dual goal of meeting the unique learning needs of the ESSEC community and making a contribution to the local ecosystems both in Singapore and the greater Asia-Pacific region. We adopt a ‘design learning’ approach to enable ESSEC students to build their own courses in close collaboration with faculty members. In a similar vein, we will continue to draw from our expertise and experience with ESSEC Ventures – our ‘one-stop shop’ for entrepreneurship education in France – to design and develop a parallel initiative to support entrepreneurial activity in Singapore and Asia-Pacific.
