TOP DVD For those of you that like your thrills Top Gear style, there’s a Christmas treat heading to stores in Peterborough. Richard Hammond reveals some of the special skills that you need if you want to follow in his footsteps in Top Gear Uncovered – The DVD Special which is out mid month.

ON THE MOVE WITH BUDGET

His master-class includes hints on how to make a grand entrance, driving sideways whilst talking at the same time, getting a trials bike prodigy to beat the clock indoors, as well as the more mundane tasks of driving some of the world’s best supercars.

Sometimes you need much more than just a man with a van and if you need the wheels to move your home or business, Budget Plus Removals in Peterborough offer a moving service anywhere in Europe.

NEW CAR REGISTRATIONS ROCKET AT MOTORPOINT The credit crunch doesn’t appear to have lessened our appetite for new cars in Peterborough. We’re buying more new plate motors than this time last year, according to city based car supermarket Motorpoint. It claims its customers took delivery of a record number of 59 registrations during September. “We may be in the midst of a recession but it hasn’t stopped a big increase in customers turning to Motorpoint to treat themselves to a new car in September,” claimed Richard Chard, General Manager of Motorpoint Peterborough.

Moving can be a stressful time. Whether you’re moving around the corner or somewhere else in Europe, Budget Plus tell us they provide a safe and reliable removal service that is personalised to your needs. Asif Rehman told ESP – “We offer exceptional service within your budget. We are a trustworthy company with a wealth of experience and are therefore able to offer competitive prices. “We are fully insured and are governed by the national guild of removers and storage association. We also work closely with and are recommended by local estate and letting agents.” They offer a seven day service with no extra charge for weekend removals, and don’t charge rearrangement fees, which means you won’t have to wait to book last minute. They also offer a full packing service with packing materials and can arrange for your items to be placed into storage if required.

TURN OVER A NEW LEAF AND DO YOUR AUTUMN CAR CHECKS!

CLASSIC CARS ON SHOW

We might be more concerned with having a little bit longer in bed at this time of year, but it could be a good idea to spend those valuable minutes in the morning checking our cars haven’t fallen foul to some of autumn’s hazards.

If you like your motors classic rather than modern, a trip to Birmingham could be the ideal day out this month.

While leaves on the line, slippery streets and endless hours sweeping the driveway might be a pain, they can also interfere with getting around – and have a devastating effect on the electronics of many modern cars.

The NEC is hosting the Classic Motor Show on Friday November 13, Saturday November 14 and Sunday November 15.

The IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) is advising us to do a few simple autumn checks to prevent breakdowns.

The event will feature more than 1,200 cars from all over the world.

• Plenum chambers – At this time of year it’s quite common for leaves to accumulate in plenum chambers (the tray-like area under the bonnet, just below the windscreen) and block them up causing rain to leak into areas that should be protected from the elements, such as the computers which control the engine, braking systems and other expensive electronic equipment. So the next time your bonnet’s up, take a look and clear out the leaves.

Every motoring taste is catered for with around 200 of Britain’s best motoring clubs creating impressive displays of unusual and breathtaking marques while over 300 trade stands sell a wide range of parts, spares, tools, motoring services and memorabilia.

• Batteries – Autumn can also take its toll on car batteries as the first frost settles, but some basic maintenance can help to prolong battery life. The top of a battery must be clean and dry, the terminals must be tight and free from corrosion and the battery itself must be mounted securely in its tray.

For those like our Pep who prefer two wheels, there’s a dedicated Classic Bike hall complete with club displays, classic bike concourse, stage interviews and a bike jumble.

It’s also worth checking your antifreeze and stocking up on de-icer for the frosty mornings ahead. Brrrrrrr…
