Guest speaker: Shirley Williams - ‘The Life of Vera Brittain’ June 21, 7.30pm at Peterborough Cathedral. Baroness Shirley Williams talks movingly about her mother – Vera Brittain – whose activities helped shape the political landscape in the early years of the 20th Century. Brittain’s pioneering war memoir Testament of Youth still continues to make an impact 80 years after it was first published. Shirley Williams, Baroness Williams of Crosby PC, is a politician and academic. Originally a Labour Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister, she was one of the ‘Gang of Four’ who founded the Social Democratic Party in 1981. She has been leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords, has written several books and is currently Professor Emerita of Electoral Politics at Harvard University.
